In the UK, when it comes to American Football, are Pats more popular than recent SB champions like Packers & Saints? Is there a team without much recent success with lots fans ... like Cowboys or Raiders? ty so much for the insight
When is this going to be confirmed. I would definitely take a day or two off to go see this (if I can get tickets of course).
Just like lots of people outside the UK support the likes of manchester utd, chelsea, liverpool.......Stupid teams really. I for one will not be going if its the Pats, went to the Saints V Chargers game. that was great fun. Hopeing for it to be the J-E-T-S. As for a UK franchise, I hope it never ever happens
If it's the Pat they won't be getting a penny from me. I will never support a UK based franchise. If this happens the only money they would get from me is if the jets were on a road trip
American Football really picked up here in the 80's so the teams that were succesful then have a lot of following, like the Bears because i think 85 was the first year we had it here, the 49ers, the Redskins and the Dolphins because of Marino. the Last two decades has seen the Glory hunting Brigade, like Dallas in the Aikman era, then a lot of New England Fans. Also a Fair few rams fans from the Warner Era. I would Saints and Packers have hardly any following here. Oh lots of Faiders fans, i think though that its due to their colours more than anything. Gutted its the Pats! i thought they were going to try to even these games out. But this will be the Pats second visit followed by the Bucs 2nd visit last year. Not got over to the States to see the Jets since the whooping in Dallas 4 years back. Its too damn expensive all in all to justify for just a Jets game. Even though i have managed to get over for 2.
The Bucs at least gave up home games to come. This is the second time the Pats will avoid playing a road game to play in front of a supportive crowd in London. In 2009 they started 0-6 on the road and their win in London over Tampa was the margin between 1st and 2nd in the division. It's incredibly unfair that they will have this advantage again.
It's not fair if NE again gets 7 road games, they are trying to catch up to the Giants who have had 7 true road games 3 times since 2005 but these are the leagues darlings for some reason.
I wonder if league took your tremendous monetary contibution into account when making their decision.
Three years http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/american_football/16635797.stm I'll be giving the Wembley game a miss, again.
The talk of establishing an NFL franchise in Europe has been around for a couple of years now based upon the International Series generally selling out since it has been established. This has led the league to consider whether there is a financial viability in setting up a franchise. Of the people I know who follow AmFit the vast majority already have their established team and would be loath to abandon it to follow a new franchise. The lesson for me is the World League - NFL Europe - Europa League experiment that went belly up. Financial analysts, market researchers were convinced the various iterations of this league would bring $Billions into their coffers. Didn't happen as they couldn't establish other than in Germany gates that increased. This league was also played in the late spring and therefore not in competition with NFL. I was a season ticket holder at the Claymores for most of their existence but was always a Jet fan first and foremost. Incidentally have you been hacking my bank accounts to measure how capable I am of making a contribution *rolls eyes*
i think that this is a really terrible idea - people want to see some variety and ideally a decent game between two good teams - instead every time its either been hopeless teams or a totally imbalanced game (like watching the patriots kick someones ass) if they want to get people into the sport putting on lopsided crappy games like this is not the way to do it i certainly wont be going along this year to watch the pats wipe the floor with the rams
It is total bullshit. The original plan was for all 32 teams to play in London one time and then after that the league would reexamine the whole deal.
