It's not so much that, it's just the body types are similar. They have some baby fat on them, they don't match the sculpted look most have. When you see a WR at 220-230, it's mainly muscle. It didn't affect them in college, but it can give you some trouble in the NFL. That said, I don't think AJ will have the same problems with his weight that Williams had...
I'm pretty much in agreement that the wide receiver comparisons need some work. In no way shape or form is Dwayne Bowe like Justin Blackmon. Same with the Jeffery-Johnson comparison
I ALWAYS compare on skill set. Now a lot of the time that'll mean the same thing as potential (ex. if someone has another guy's skill set then he'll likely have the ability to reach his level), but I always look potential second. It just so happens I love this WR class and think that the top 6 (and beyond, I see you Mr. Criner) has monstrous potential. That's the main problem with your comparisons, you seem to be comparing them based on how good they might turn out to be and not on skills. It doesn't make sense that way, because people want to know what type of player they're getting, their overall value (and the skills) will tell you all about potential. Broyles compares better to Wayne because Smith is a catch and go guy, whereas Broyles/Wayne are better short yardage/catch and create guys. Smith is like the Santana Moss/DeSean Jackson type; Broyle is more J Maclin than D Jackson (just for reference, he's not as explosive as either). Lloyd was going to be another name I threw out for Broyles, but I'm too deadset on my Wayne comp. to ever give any credit out elsewhere. I like the two Mike Williams comps (Jeffery/BMW is dead on), but if I'm going with Blackmon I'm not sure about Roddy. Just like JTJ's Bowe comparison, they're physical enough, sure, but I think Blackmon uses his size better than either. I'd actually compare White to Bowe, to be honest. As much as I hate using him every year, but I'd roll TO for Blackmon. I used him for Dez and Julio the past two years, but I think it's the closest for Blackmon. I also thought about Marques Colston, but I don't think he's got enough speed. If Bruce measures out to a legit 6'3, he should be a top 15 pick. He's a monster. My fear is that he's not quite that tall, but it may just be because he's so outstanding at staying low and getting under tackles pads. The kid is pure speed and power, I love him. I'd take him in the first round even without ever watching attempt to drop in coverage from the 34 OLB spot.
I think you got a little too caught up in matching measurables rather than play styles in your comparisons. It's still a good idea to start to familiarize some of the Jets targets next year this early though, so not a bad thread. (For those who aren't already)
Too be honest It was tough making comparisons, I should of refined them a bit although I'm happy with my Fuller and Floyd comparisons, as well as some of my LBs. But thanks on the compliment of the thread, even if the comparisons are a little off I think its good too get some of these names in some Jets fans heads early.
I've kind of refrained from making comments in ths thread. JTJ has put a lot of work into his comparisons. I recently compared Fuller to Plaxico, but it's not something I do often. I just don't usually like to compare players, everyone is different, systems are different and players play different roles when traded, drafted or move to another team. It's great to be discussing Footbal again, especially College Football.
He'll probably end up at like 6-2 1/4 or 1/2, his weight is his biggest question mark. I'm more worried about Courtney Upshaw's height, he might end up being 6-1 270. It's pretty amazing to watch Irvin play knowing he's a former WR turned OLB turned DE, he's playing off raw power and ability. If he gets the right coaching, imagine what he could become.
He's one of my all-time favorites too. I have his Starting Lineup action figure in the original box in my man cave. It's this one without the gay coin:
There is not many players that I admire, but Sanders was a freak, incredible instincts and vision. Nobody has EVER run like Barry Sanders, he was amazing to watch.
Oops my bad on the Fuller Plax thing, I didnt realize that when making the thread , if I would of seen it I would of changed it up . And hey man im open too all opinions , I worked Jard on the thread but whats a good thread without debate? That's for the notice though , well appreciated.
