They are so afraid of missing on a player that they cant help themselves. They have routinely taken the wrong guy over & over again. Im not sure whats worse:The dreadful talent on the boudary both sides of the ball or the fact that they seem to overemphasize defense as a mechanism against the fact that they suck at drafting offense. Still the scouts themselves seem to have good reps & are highly regarded. All they do is gather intel & grade the players. This all comes down to the decision makers &lack of leadership.
He may have royally sucked at drafting players but the man was a totally forceful and entralling orator, could lead men simply with the power of his personality and drive. Reminds one of Vince Lombardi. Wish I could find the full version of this--went on for about 14 minutes that rivaled MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech.
We could've gotten Caldwell or Dorsey if it hadn't been for Woody forcing Tanny's successor to keep Rex.
The worst part about the "Idzik 12" was that it was a stacked draft. It's one thing to draft bums when the pickings are slim, but to botch a draft loaded with talent does double the damage as the other teams improved their rosters while he continued the downward spiral of an already shitty one.
and one of their worst..... The WORST draft pick of alltime in the history of shitty JETS draft picks is pretty bad.... and trading up into the 1st round For Keller in the same draft... I was so mad that day
Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick, Leon johnson, Brad Smith. Gholston a total bum, batting 2 out of 3 is better than batting 0 Percent. And while it is the GM's job to pick players, Tannenbaum was a cap guy and picked whoever the coaches wanted him to.
Couldn't understand taking Pryor over Clinton-Dix. Would have happily taken Cooks at that spot but Rex wasn't having that.
Yikes, what a massive failure. You do have to admit he really knocked it out of the park in the 6th round.
Pryor in round 1 was so idiotic. In a league where his thunderous type hits are attempting to be phased out...what ELSE did he bring to the table? He had no idea how to play the position at the NFL level. Took such horrendous angles. Couldn't tackle. No football IQ at all. Cooks and Clinton-Dix were RIGHT THERE and Idzik passed I admit I thought Amaro would be a very solid player. He puts on a Jets jersey and suddenly can't catch a football.
Jarvis Landry Brandin Cooks Jordan Matthews Allen Robinson Davante Adams Kelvin Benjamin We still got Enunwa out of it but it is unforgivable not getting one of the 6 above as well. None of 'em are Julio Jones but still, very solid players that we needed at the time. Beckham, Mike Evans, and Watkins also went that year but were picked ahead of the Jets selection.
Well credit him for taking them. Everybody says obvious picks in retrospect but people were also saying we were fine on the d-line and needed to go into another direction. He could've picked Beasley. He could've picked Gurley....he could've picked Ereck Flowers or Kevin White. He did well there but I didn't see it as obvious Adams I liked as a pick but was a bit underwhelmed with his play last year
Marquis Lee as well who Idzik reportedly tried to trade back in round 1 for. Went into that draft convinced theyd be forced to finally prioritize a true blue chip offensive skill player gosh did that go up in smoke. Both Shaq Evans & Jalen Saunders wouldve been fine at the same draft spot as Enunwa but 2 rounds earlier?? Yucky.
I know I could have done better than Idzik. [I don't make this kind of boastful claim often, folks.] Rd 1 Derek Carr Rd 2 Davante Adams Rd 3 Trai Turner Rd 3 Devonta Freeman Do you see how sexy the offense could have looked after 2014 draft alone? And I believe Telvin Smith was available in Round 4, along with David Yankey from Stanford. Idzik whiffed on ALL of them. Yes. ALL OF THEM. Really - Dakota Dozier in favor of Yankey. I really was scratching my head over this. I can let go a lot of idiots - hell, I don't have hard feelings toward Rich Kotite. YES. FUCKING RICH KOTITE. But Idzik? Fuck him. He can die in a fire.
but...but....but....Idzik did trade for Percey Harvin when we were 1-6! How about that bullish behavior from the "Mad Calculator?"
Macc 12 is stretched out over 4 years. Really no impact players and his 2nd round picks at least saw the field, unlike Macc's Hackenberg disaster.
Yeah, I can't believe Idzik botched that draft so badly. Normally when you have 12 picks, it's hard to screw it up that badly where they pretty much all bust. Ugggg. Glad he's gone.
