YES!!! Thank you! Even if Revis is so good that no amount of picks will be good enough, it deosn't matter. Jets simply won't be able to pay his price without completely devastating the team. Hence, trade him, get something while you can.
It is truly a difficult situation. I just hope the organization doesn't screw this up. I always dreamed of Revis being a Jet for life but it's the NFL and everything changes on the drop of a hat. Honestly, yes, it might cripple our team by signing him but he is truly a once in a lifetime player and you don't just let a guy like that go. Having him known as a Jet instead of another team would be absolutely amazing. I'd hate to see him go play for the Patriots or Giants.
Neither of those teams bid on Asomugha. Neither will get in the Revis bidding. They're both too well managed to fall into that trap.
It would have to take a substantial package I think for it to be ok to trade Revis. 2 first round picks and a 3rd. that's the only trade I'd accept and honestly I'm not thrilled with it because I know the Jets would probably miss on those picks.
Yeah they will. If they are desperate or close enough. If SF looses NFC champ to this year's Giants in another close game, there will be someone in their front office who'll bet on Revis = game won = SB appearance. If all it'll cost them to get Revis for 3 lousy picks while they have 11 to play with -- they'll do it in a heartbeat. Even if getting Revis will be just a season-long rent, it'll be worth it. Shit, imagine that Jets are in the same position -- this board would be exploding with "rent this beast so we can finally get back to the past glory".
Maybe... the 49ers just might be the only team in the league in the exact position they are in, maybe the Packers too. Who else has the money and doesn't have the more important holes on their roster? I'm still not sold on the idea the Jets will actually let Revis go, Woody wants those big name players, and right now he's the only one we've got. It's like I said, Revis isn't going to turn down an extension this offseason, he won't want to risk getting a tiny payout if he gets hurt again. The Jets just have to make it sweet enough. Not saying it's the best overall option, but playing shutdown D is the only way we are going to be considered good instead of rebuilding. We'll have to rely more on the new OC's abilities than adding a bunch of offensive players.
What about Seattle? Their defense is great if they got Revis it would be insane. That would make sense. Maybe Dallas if Rob Ryan is still employed.
Jets can keep Revis, if they don't pay Cromartie (or trade Cromartie mid-season next year) a new contract after the 2013 season. I don't even think the value for CBs has significantly increased since we gave Revis that contract anyway, and after the Nnamdi situation I think they can use that to their advantage. I'd rather keep Revis then resign Cromartie to a big deal - Revis would be an excellent FS when he gets older as well. He's got more value and I think he's far more important.
Seattle already has 2 premier CB. Getting Revis for multiple picks would be questionable as an upgrade and too expensive regardless.
Weeeeeeeeell. It's the Jets we're talking about. I'm assuming team that got from shit last season to dominant force in this one has a little more brains in the front office. That said, :shit:
point is teams can stock pile and try to. though I'm not really aware of any team's cap situation who can do this.
Revis might not be the player he was before injury, this situation came up with Leon Washington and the jets made the right choice on him. It's a gamble and I say get rid of him for picks! Cromartie is enough for our defense, while revis is about himself! He is great at what he does, but the money, the risk factor, and the future team needs, point to him not being a Jet! Sorry darelle, you gotta go.
If we trade Revis I don't think you can do it for picks unless it's multiple first rounders. We have to get some tangible talent back to plug the holes we currently have.
Your scenario is desirable, but unlikely. I doubt you'd find a team that: a) has available players to plug our holes b) is willing to part with them c) lacks CB to the point of being interested in a holdout-prone player coming off a major injury d) has enough cap room Revis is a rapidly plummeting commodity. This time next year his stock will be very low regardless of how well he plays in 2013 because everyone knows that Revis will be holding out for FA -- no reason to give Jets anything for a player about to become available. That's why Jets gotta capitalize on him now -- get the best deal possible. If this best deal is getting holes plugged, like you're suggesting -- great. If not -- stock up on picks, $$, footballs... whatever. Basically, make Revis available and auction him to the highest bettor.
Revis is one of the very few players in the league who could warrant a team trading its first round pick for his services.
Keep in mind, we paid a 2nd for Cromartie. I would rather multiple lower picks as opposed to 1 single high pick. We need to do something like this very soon. Ship him off to Minnesota, - they really need CB help in that division w/Rodgers, Stafford, Cutler.
