I knew about Gholston long before anyone on this board from the day he stepped on the campus of OSU. I was quick to point out his "lack of heart" and "lack of "testicles". I undersdtand your POV, don't lump me in with other's knee-jerk reactions that have no basis for their comments.
Biggest bust for the Jets that I can remember, but at least he's gone now. Am I surprised that he's badmouthing the team? Not really. What else do you expect from someone who doesn't put forth the effort he needs to succeed? Of course he's going to take the easy way and blame someone else. I think the world knows that Rex is a bad defensive coach, and that's why Gholston didn't succeed. [sarcasm]
Who would have even been favoured over him? We had/have no pass rush. Calvin Pace even missed what, 8 games in two years from suspension and injuries. As a situational down pass-rushing lineman there was really no one else at his position. Jason Taylor got more time than him. Opportunities were there.
Draft bust Vernon Gholston believes that Rex Ryan never gave him a chance I thought this was a better written article about the same subject.
Vernon Gholston showed signs of being a bust long before Rex arrived in NY. Vernon should be grateful that Rex didn't cut him outright after he was hired to be our HC. Claiming he didn't have opportunities to contribute on this team is fucking asinine.
his comments allude to one of his biggest problems. imo. he just doesn't understand the professional level of football. drive, passion, etc... sure that too.
Better? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/23/gholston-says-rex-ryan-wouldnt-give-him-a-fair-chance/ Gholston says Rex Ryan wouldn’t give him a fair chance Posted by Michael David Smith on August 23, 2011, 7:06 AM EDT Vernon Gholston is one of the biggest draft busts in recent NFL history, a No. 6 overall pick of the Jets who was supposed to be a great pass rusher, but who was cut without ever recording a single sack. So who’s to blame for that? Gholston points the finger at Jets coach Rex Ryan, who according to Gholston was never willing to give him a fair chance to prove himself. “Being a first-round pick, you would have hoped for more [of a chance],” Gholston told the New York Post. “It’s all about getting a fair shot and time in the system. With the Jets, it was constant position change and coaching change. There was no stability. I never really had that with the Jets.” Gholston also said Ryan played favorites, and that Ryan perceived Gholston as unpopular in the locker room. “Rex made a comment to me when he first came in that he thought I wasn’t liked by the guys on the team, then once he got there he saw that wasn’t the case,” Gholston said. “Those perceptions kind of determine the outcome, and it’s sad to say.” Of course, even if Gholston is right that Ryan had it out for him, that wouldn’t explain why Gholston didn’t play well when Eric Mangini was the head coach. And Gholston is clearly in the minority inside the Jets’ locker room in not being able to get along with Ryan, who has been one of the league’s most popular coaches with his players. So the fact that Gholston and Ryan didn’t see eye to eye probably says more about Gholston than it says about Ryan.
This is spot on. I've repeated this story ad nauseum on this board, but I was a giddy little bitch when he was drafted, THEN that very first interview on draft day not too soon after the pick, I listened to him speak and my jaw dropped because he sounded like a little bitch. Then turned out to be gayer than a little bitch. Funny that he is now blaming REX of all people.
I blame Jake Long. If he hadn't started daydreaming on a few plays during the Ohio State-Michigan game, Gholston never gets those sacks, and we never draft him.

Gholston had a 9 million dollar incentive if he got a sack last year.. or if he got a lucky interception, or even stumbled and fell onto a god damn fumble. Couldn't even do that. Go fuck yourself Vern. This guy is 5 times my size and I can probably kick his ass.
