Thanks for the terrific insight. Is there anything else you've seen someone else write that you want to regurgitate? We're all very interested.
well u hope to hell 2nd round QB picks dont evolve into a back up role but there are so so many variables from the make up of the player himself to the surrounding team, philosophy, ownership, etc etc. QB is the most overdrafted position on the board so the percentages are NOT in ur favor to get quality starter material (which in itself is difficult to define) in the first round let alone later rounds.
Drafting a QB in the 2nd round? The intent is to never have that player as a back-up no matter what position. Back-up QBs are drafted late in the draft. Geno may not be ready now to start, but the FO believes after some seasoning and learning he will eventually take the reigns. If the Front Office's intent was to make him a back-up for his entire career, then Izdik has already failed and does not understand the draft. I wasn't a fan of drafting Geno, but he's got an excellent chance at being a starter for the Jets in the near future. Geno fell to the Jets and got great value - we have too many needs to draft a potential back-up in the 2nd round. I hope I understood where you were coming from there
its such a crapshoot. the jets did need to select a QB last april, everyone was on board with that. the big question is did they get their guy?? time will tell. u are right some teams are forunate enough to go into drafts with the intent of picking a back up QB and not expecting more than a spot start from him due to injury.
This is a great point. MM is going to need to be very creative and flexible in the type of offense we'd deploy if Geno is playing. He's a rookie you'd need to shield somewhat, we still need to run plenty, and i totally agree with incorporating looks which worked for Geno at college. in other words, not a strict version of vanilla WCO. The good coaches adapt their schemes to personnel, and i think MM is capable of it.
RG3 didn't have anyone in front of him and was basically handed the starting job. He was also drafted #2 overall and you simply cannot let a pick like that miss. Everything has been about competition and getting the players actively competing for a spot. Why cater the offense to one guys weaknesses when we can let him grow into actually being an NFL ready QB as opposed to dumbing down or fixing the playbook. There's no reason for Geno to play if he's not ready to be in an NFL offense. There is every advantage to having him sit until like you said he's ready to take those snaps under center. Whether that be this year, or next. I really don't want MM to change his system, Let the QBs figure it out.
I laugh at the morons who say that Geno will be a backup QB for life. If that was the case, Idzik is an idiot. But it's not. As for him being a diva because of this...give me a fucking break. What exactly has Jets West done....? I'll wait....
I have no problem with him not showing up, But I laugh at those who think him not going is some kind of sign that he's the man or that he's going to be better then Sanchez. The fact that people think he's going to gain respect or get better rapport with his teammates from not going to this 4 day workout is laughable. Every possible starting skill position on the team is basically there except for Holmes.. What does that tell you the team thinks of this meaningless "sleepover"?
Out of the people there Ivory, Hill, Kerley, and Winslow are locks for the team. The rest are practice squad caliber players who are most likely camp cuts. That's it...
Why would Idzik be an idiot? At 39, geno would be the most solid number two, the jets have had Personally, i dont see that as his ceiling, but....if it was..its no knock on Idzik. Ducasse was a second round pick, as was Kellen Clemens.
The Jets got great value getting Geno in round 2. It was a worthy gamble, IMO. Unfortunately he seems to have the wrong attitude, refusing to go to Sanchez' camp, which leads me to believe he won't be starting for the Jets anytime soon.
Yes, everyone not named Holmes.... Its bad, when you are making excuses for the backup QB, not trying to bond with his teammates. The Dude, has 'Tude. Geno-fer Lopez. Look, given the media perception about him being a diva, wouldnt it make sense from a PR standpoint to dispel it...unless he thinks he's Joe Montana...
Does everyone who doesn't go to Jets West have the wrong attitude? What the fuck did it do for us last year...? Or the year before...? I'll wait.
Because if you want Sanchez to start, you don't draft a QB. If we wasted a draft pick on a backup QB when Sanchez is actively losing games for us, that's a problem. Get that through your head.
you have a link to that because I find that hard to believe regarding tim tebow worst after camp. EDIT: Nevermind....
