I have to agree. Geno refusing to go to Cali kind of stinks. Not that I think he would learn much as a ball player, but it is a chance to bond with teammates and squash a perceived controversy. Maybe he is afraid that Sanchez will start naked booty dancing around in the hotel room, but sometimes that is the price you pay for camaraderie.
Thanks for the coffee shower I just gave my laptop ... But in all seriousness I also think Geno should have gone REGARDLESS of the compitition. Some of the receivers & backs are new to Mark .... ALL of the receivers and backs are new to Geno. Its just more pitch and catch time, and that alone should have been enough to get him out there.
Why do people think Geno Smith is sitting at home doing nothing? He's got tape he's got the playbook let the man do his thing. Geno has his own approach to the game. He has his own things to work on.
Yeah... except he could be doing that with his teammates. Don't get me wrong, he has a lot of talent. But the way this happened is stupid. If he had come out and said that he only had a couple of weeks to spend with his family or something, that would have been something people understand. People other than you, anyway, who apparently plan to defend him for whatever reason. The way this played out is not conducive to team chemistry no matter how you try to spin it.
maybe he is just trying to distance himself from the follies of MS. cant say i blame him not wanting to go out there with a guy who is proclaiming he himself will be the starter.
I can see both sides to this. On the one hand I agree it's a good idea for him to have gone and started building chemistry with his new teammates. On the other hand it seems like his main area of focus is the playbook and his footwork, which he can probably get more work completed on by staying away from there. Something tells me they aren't studying the playbook every night. Chemistry is great but if you don't know MM's playbook or can't get your footwork straight all the chemistry in the world isn't going to help you. The second point to that is that not all teams have camps like this and the ones that do not all players attend. Just because it's the Jets and a QB it the volume gets turned up and blown out of proportion. Lots of guys that are new to a team feel they can build sufficient chemistry over the offseason between OTAs, training camp, preseason, practices, etc. We'll see if it pays off in the long run but I personally don't have a big problem with him deciding to focus on the areas he needs to improve in to have a chance at succeeding and worrying about building chemistry (which he has already started through OTAs and rookie camp with some guys) over the next two months.
Genos garbage, he played in a system that made his numbers blow up. This would never make it with the pieces we have.
I agree he should of handled it a little better. We can only hope whatever he's doing instead of Jets West is beneficial to him in getting better. Get that footwork down packed, taking snaps from under the center, and learning the playbook.
not sure if taking the high road is hanging with something sanchez is sponsoring so to say. i am trying to give the rookie QB the benefit here. IMO it could POSSIBLY be a good sign that he is showing his sacks and staying put, distancing himself from this event. but as u say i may be giving to much benefit and he sure did take the lo road with regard to other players and just spending time together.
one could also argue the on the field benefit of this jets west gala as it has not been very productive for the jets offense.....
From what I have read, he has played in three different systems since he enrolled in college. And most of the rest of your post is unintelligible jibber jabber.
I also mentioned above something that may be in agreement with you. Not sure what to think of this. I don't think we can really be sure of it at all, but you know the beatmeats are going to be all over it. That sucks.
Well why then would Idzik draft him in the first place? Granted it was a 2nd round pick but if Geno Smith was a for certain wasted pick, there were a lot of other roster holes they could've used that #39 to grab some needed value elsewhere. Bottom line is, nothing's set in stone right now. Sanchez' experience aside, we really don't know how this is going to play out until they both get into camp and show who's got the better grasp and execution of MM's offense. Yes, Sanchez (because of his experience) probably starts out with the slight edge, but from there until opening day, who knows....jmo
It's unfortunate for you that you're unable to analyze a player beyond regurgitating part of what you've read someone else write. The game is so much more interesting when you can watch and understand what is going on for yourself.
If Geno were to win the starting gig, it would be a great idea to incorporate what Geno Smith did best at WVU and have MM add it onto the playbook. Kind of like what Shanahan did with RG3 and ease the transition. RG3 became comfortable taking snaps under center later in the season - it felt like a seamless transition
