This is inaccurate. He's been beyond awful in about half the season. He's looked like a rookie in another 3 or 4 games. He's actually been good 3 or 4 times this year and he's a major reason the Jets won games at least twice.

He played good in a meaningless game. No pressure and you could see from the get go he was relaxed.

Its going to rain! OMG! Nice to see you can be objective. You also have to mention his running ability. 7 wins with a rag tag offense is amazing! Now lets go out and get win #8.

And maybe, just maybe, knock Regis Philbin, his Dolfags and their 35000 empty orange seats out of the postseason in the process

    Go Rex

    Go Geno

    Go Jets!!!!!

It was an encouraging game. I really hope Geno goes into the off-season on a high note, and hopefully he builds up confidence, footwork, and reading progressions over the break. Especially under centre.

The Browns may be a 4 win team, but they don't have a 4 win team defense. I'll admit they were missing Bryant, but that looked more to affect the ability to run on them.

It also looked like Holmes had some fight in him, though his hands haven't been the best. He'll lay out for ball still, and did well enough against Joe Haden, who is one of the few shutdown corners out there right now. I'd be comfortable with him staying on the team at a cheaper cap, as it'd be an additional weapon for an offense that really needs them.

Alright, so given those results and the circumstances what do you make of his long term prospects as the Jets QB? He obviously rebounded enough to justify another year starting but how likely do you think it is he turns into a better than average QB?

It's a complex and unclear question for me. He has played well against bad defenses and hopeless against good ones, extreme results of a normal trend but then he threw in a few inexplicable clunkers against mediocre defenses. He had no offensive talent which is going to change a lot next year, but he stares down receivers and often makes poor judgments about ball security. Good measurables, arm strength and accuracy at times, poor touch and accuracy at others. Played well on a fast track, INTs in bunches in the rain.

How much do you explain away with the offensive roster and rookie growing pains? Does he learn and become a good QB with an infusion of offensive talent? Or does he fall too many mistakes short of being truly effective?

Geno's got a chance to be good. That's about as far as I'd go right now. The thing that has hurt him this year is the mental side of the game. He's been "who-what-where-ing" for the majority of the season. The pressure is part of that and his receiver's inability to present him with choice targets is another part but his own internal clock and vision deficiencies are part of the problem also.

Yep on all counts. He's looked like a rookie in all but a few games and he's looked like a bewildered rookie fairly often against good defenses or smart defensive coaches.

We'll probably know the answer to this by mid-season next year. Following Mark Sanchez is both a blessing and a curse for Geno. He isn't going to get unlimited opportunities and if the breaks go against him he might not even be on the field at the start of the season next year. He could be the Russell Wilson figure for the Jets or he could be Matt Flynn. We just don't know yet.

I am very happy w/ the way Geno is ending the season, he is finally showing me something on a somewhat consistent basis. He looks like he belongs on an NFL field now which is not something we could have said for the majority of the year. I feel MUCH better about him going forward.

he's a terrible QB. having him as our starter is a curse. he has one good game vs a 4 win team after months of sucking dick and you guys want to give him another year. FUCK THAT.

he's been good overall the last 3 weeks, he clearly wasn't ready to start early on and it showed but he is progressing and finishing the year strong.

I agree. And with a new coach its likely they would want a new QB

Anyone who thinks the "know" that Geno either can or can't play in this league is kidding themselves.
Bottom line is we don't and no one does.
Yes, there has been times he has looked god awful and you could think no way, and yes, there has been times he has definitely showed some progress toward where he would need to be.

The facts are however is the O-line was too often so atrocious and giving him no time. And with no legitimate receiver to lean on for "hot" reads in those situations -we just don't know.

Add to that the WR's are so bad that they rarely get any separation and regularly drop balls, the entire body of work at this point is inconclusive.

Good is not the word i would use. I would say something along the lines of he didn't suck. The raiders game and the Panthers games were definitely not "good". The browns are a 4-11 team and the game was played in 60+ degree temps.

I'm just happy with the number of quick-breakers he threw across the middle to Kerley, Nelson and the TE's. That boom-boom-1st down action was there early on and then went MIA for two months. It was nice to see it back in play again.

That's what the WCO thrives on, killer slants alongside the quickouts and Geno had both of those working today. If Holmes didn't drop a couple it would have been a very good overall performance against a pretty tough defense.

The Browns with Haden on the field are in the upper echelons of the NFL's pass defenses this year. For Geno to hit passes and get in a rhythym against them bodes well. This wasn't the Falcons or the early Bills with all their CB's hurt. This was a good defense.

The Browns are not bad defensively, yesterday was outstanding.

He was good the previous 2 weeks, I know he had another pick 6 last week and all that but Carolina has a top D and they were on the road yet in it until 4th.

I don't know if he will ever become good but I feel much better today than a little over 2 weeks ago.

Geez, I thought the Jets played well yesterday, and am particularly encouraged by Milliner's play. So did Ivory. The red zone D was awesome.

But the Cleveland D? It was pretty awful.

We were in the Carolina game into the 4th not because of Geno. The browns defense was not outstanding yesterday.

I want Geno to do well but I'm not going to overstate how well he's played the last few weeks just so i can feel better about him.

We actually had guys running wide open most of the game. Cleveland's defense did not have a good game yesterday

he made some plays and wasn't making mistakes until the INT. not every good game means throwing for a high %, high yardage and a ton of TDs. That was against a top team on the road w/ a really good D and he held up for the most part.

It was Geno's best game all year. Let's not take anything away from the kid. You can still think he's terrible and acknowledge he had a good game Sunday.

the Raiders' game I could see the pooh poohing about playing a terrible D, but this Cleveland team has some good defenders, especially in the secondary. Give Geno some credit and drop the "it was @home, vs. a 4-11 team, etc".. it was a solid performance. Although, I will say I was surprised with the lack of blitzing from Cleveland...

I want to see him follow it up though. I'm really tired of seeing Geno and the rest of the team actually make great strides one week then tank it the next week on the road. Show us you can win 2 in a row.
