Dont just cherry pick the stats where Mark was better than Geno. Provide the entire picture if you are going to throw out stats.

They both combine for 11 TDs each. Fumbles lost is more of luck than big picture. Mark fumbled 8 times through 9, with Geno at 6.

    Total Yards
    Mark: 1,715
    Geno: 2,169

    Comp %
    Mark: 53.3
    Geno: 58.1

    Rating
    Mark: 72.9
    Geno: 71.0

Wow, how has this yet again turned into a Mark vs. Geno thread?...

Also, what counts as a "legit" 4th QTR comeback? The Bucs game he led the team down the field with less than a minute left to set up a FG. Same thing with the Falcons game. Bills game was tied and he led a drive for a TD that won us the game. Holy shit Junc, enough with that bullshit. No one is sitting here saying that Sanchez's 4th QTR comebacks arent "legit". Should we not consider the Lions OT win a "legit" comeback because all Mark did was complete a slant that Santonio took by himself for 50 yards? Cmon on now.

All Stats are skewed but in this case they aren't favorable to Sanchez who was asked to do less and turned over the ball at a higher rate then Geno does based on passing attempts and rushes combined adding in both fumbles and INT's.

Geno has stepped up and he should be judge fairly. He has been a very good rookie QB.

Fine, keep the blinders on. All Geno Smith has to do to be a good NFL QB is to play as good a Sanchez but we can only use certain stats but not other so the arguement can come out in Geno's favor.

I don't know about you guys but after enduring the Dan Marino era, the Jim Kelly era, and the Tom Brady era I want us to be the team with the dominant QB that the rest of the league is afraid of. I want the rest of the AFC East to pencil in two losses before the season starts knowing that they have to play us twice.

That is what we should be looking for in a starting QB. That is where the bar should be set. I don't care if we took our QB first overall or in round seven. We need a leader than can drag this team kicking and screaming all the way to the Superbowl if that's what it takes to win. Better than Mark Sanchez should not be the goal here.

I want Geno to succeed. I want him to step up and lead this team. When he does something right I want to believe that he is done screwing up and finally has things figured out. Right now I just don't see it.

Come on he is a rookie, I would understand this talk if it was his 2nd or 3rd year but give him a break. The Jets are 5-4 with a lacking secondary, a non existent receiving core, an average o line and rookie qb.

If Geno were to play as "good" as Sanchez he should be benched immediately. He is already SIGNIFICANTLY better than Sanchez at any point in his career. He is simply more athletic, more mobile, and more accurate than Sanchez. There are simply things Geno can do that Sanchez cannot.

The 2013 D does not give up 25 PPG and the # is higher b/c of Geno's TOs. Let's look at actual points allowed, avg pts by opponents for the season and TOs that set up pts against our D.

    #s are through 9 games
    2009 D allowed 137 pts, 15.2 PPG
    2013: D allowed 203 pts, 22.6 PPG

avg. pts scored by those offenses we faced first 9 weeks:
    2009 opponents: 18.5
    2013 opps: 19.8

pts off QB TOs through 9 weeks:
    2009: 41
    2013: 62

while our D was better in 2009 it's not by as much as you think. By looking at #s out of context the difference looks much greater than it actually was.

we got a penalty to set up the Bucs game which wouldn't have ben close if not for Geno TOs. The Bills game was early in the 4th and the game was tied(again thanks to geno TOs). The Atl game was a tremendous job but the others are very shaky.

all Mark did was lead us back from 10 down on the road w/ 4 mins left at Detroit. Same thing as getting a penalty to set up a long FG or scoring in a tie game w/ 10 mins left.

Who gives a crap? Sanchez haters are going to hate and Geno lovers will see no wrong.

Geno has one huge advantage over Mark and that is Marty. If Marty is able to help Geno along Geno will be better than Mark in NY. Mark as a rookie and Geno as a rookie are playing and have played well like rookies.

Today Mark gets the nod because of the playoff run here is hoping Geno can have a similar run.

I don't hate Geno, I actually like him. I hope Geno wins many more than 4 playoff games and helps us get to a SB. That is all I care about.

9 games in and Sancho done....it's time to start comparing Geno to Geno.

I am confident in one thing though, if we make the playoffs, the game(s) won't be too "big" for Geno Smith.

His biggest asset right now is his composure. For a rookie qb, starting in New York, with all that entails....it's pretty damn impressive.

    Go Geno...

I see what you're doing: that's coyly-worded "Nacho speak" and you know it.

Me? I hope the JETS win enough playoff games enabling us to get to a SB. I don't slyly insert "4 playoff wins" into the wording, i.e. as in QB vs. QB.

It's about team - put the Sanchez funeral to rest already. The boat has sailed...

    Same thing here:

on the surface, the last sentence above reads like the same "team lip service" you hear from junc, JStokes et al, but the first sentence in the above ("Sanchez haters/Geno lovers") reveals the latent resentment of Geno due to the residual resentment of Sanchez getting hurt and not getting to play in MM's offense.

Sorry but from a distance you can pretty easily see the forest from the trees....Nacho's a no-go ---> time to move on.

What is inaccurate about what he said? Seemed like a spot-on take from my perspective.

Whoa whoa whoa, dont lump me in there.

I moved on from Sanchez after last year and was even feeling queasy about him after 2011. I have in no way advocated that Sanchez SHOULD have started this year--it was clearly time to move on.

I just don't choose to shit on the guy like some folks here feel necessary in every post. He's a current Jet and he gave us some good times--let it go. Instead, he's dogshit and will never play in the NFL again and Suckchez and headband and buttfumble, etc.

Never hated any Jet (other than Tebow) ever.

Different discussion whether I'm sold on Geno but (i) I root for him like crazy, (ii) I've never said a deragotory word about him other than he holds the ball too long, he sometimes lacks awareness of where he is on the field and he needs to protect the ball, and (iii) he has improved before our eyes on a weekly basis in almost every aspect of his game.

So yeah, I'm getting sold on him.

I guess that's not good enough for some folks.

My point was I hope he turns out to be much better than Mark. I just want to win, I support players that I know can help us win but regardless of that I just want to see a SB in my lifetime.

I don't give any "lip service", unlike you guys who openly rooted against Mark I am rooting FOR Geno.

Chris Johnson was a run and where we did not contain him....after that, he did next to nothing in the game. That has nothing to do with the secondary, nobody is stopping Johnson if you don't stick him at the line or before he gains momentum.

I am not saying last year's team didn't have its hiccups but we have only played 9 games yet we've been shot by big play after big play already?

Every defense has its drops but that doesn't debunk what I said. It is like saying every QB has their INTs and every QB has their tipped INT that isn't always their fault. Of course you take it and run but that stuff has to and does get address in the film room and coaches and players treat it like they catch a giant break that won't keep happening if they don't fix up their mistakes.

Who the hell said I used an excuse? It is obvious that if the offense can't sustain long or at least semi-long drives, the defense takes a hit, if not get put in tough situations that no defense can bail them out of.

Of course the Steelers game was a team loss. Every loss is a team loss....it is just some shine more than others. Geno wasn't good in that game but it furthers my point that he is not all to blame. You can say he cost us the Pats and maybe the Titans game but it is tomfoolery to blame it on Geno for the Steelers and Bengals games as some like to do.

We gave up some real bad plays but again the Jets did get better field positioning because of their special teams, which as a result sets it up a shorter field for the offense to work with and thus can help out in the stats department.

Year 1 for Geno isn't to see if he is a superstar stud or not....it is to see if he has the maturity(Which thus far doesn't seem outlandish to say that he does), the tools and ability to be a starting QB. He clearly has things to work on, I don't think one Geno fan has said he's been perfect.

It is just the impatient some people have on the guy is mindnumbing. You can't blame your bad experiences on Sanchez with the new guy and treat Geno poorly because his mistakes remind you of Sanchez. Smith isn't a finished product but why can't he get better with more experience and an upgrade in personnel?
