IN 2009 we had the best d in football in every category. We had the best running game in football and we had a very good pass catching TE and some decent WR.

We didn't win the Atlanta game with a solid d and running game. Geno Smith was the No. 1 rusher in the win over Tampa and he threw for well over 300 yards in the win against the Bills.

Geno has definitely looked like a rookie, you could argue Geno has looked more ready at the pro level his rookie year than Sanchez ... that 3 TD game on the road in Atlanta, that's special.

Yeah we had the best team in football history 2009. If not for that damn QB we win it all easily. Without Geno this year we would be 0fer. He is already a great QB.

As someone who is in the middle so far on Smith, I guess that means i have to take issue now and then with some of those more negative on him.

On the quoted part, I think you need to acknowledge that i think 3 of those incompletions were purposely thrown away to avoid a sack. If the receivers were all covered, then that is what the Qb is supposed to do. THat in fact shows progress over past games when he either threw an int or took a big sack. So yes, 50% completion is not great, either, but you also need to take into account the argument his supporters are making, which is that he's throwing it to a lot of guys who were other teams' cuts, and Hill who is not getting it done.

I am conerned that Smith is not throwing the ball downfield with authority, even when the opponent has 8 or even 9 in the box. But it was just one game you are talking about where the OC obviously and correctly called for an emphasis on the passing game, and avoiding turnovers.

Yes, there are parallels to Sanchez that concern me as well, but it's really a shame we have to go a bye week this week, since we will likely be debating this NO performance, which really did not tell us much one way or another, an extra week.

So you make your points, but I think are overstating them.

QBs get too much credit when a team wins and too much blame when they lose. It is how the NFL works...Sanchez won 2 road playoff games and was a fingertip on defense and an injury to greene from making the super bowl.

Eli Manning is treated like an elite QB yet he hasn't done anything stats wise to say he is eilte, but he was the QB of two super bowl winning teams.

Joe Flacco cleaned up aieh t $120mill contract -- why? a great playoff run last season...is he elite?

You can even compare the backup to smith...Garrard for smith ... brunell for sanchez. Once again no threat of losing your job.

That was his best game -- also means in his other 8 he has thrown 5TD passes and 13 INT.

The numbers are not impressive -- rookie or no rookie they are bad.

The Giants don't sniff the SB in either of those years without Eli's elite play during both playoff runs.

In those 8 games he completed 65.6% of his passes for 2073 yards 15TD's and 2INT's.

Not to mention he lead come from behind victories against the Pats in both SB wins.

Putting together the kind of games that Eli and Flacco did under pressure on the road is exactly why the Giants and the Ravens are SB champs. Both Flacco and Eli are elite talent and both of them performed on the road under incredible pressure. They are exactly what I would want in a Jets QB.

What I really like about Geno is he has shown the ability to make the kind of passes that need to be made under the pressure of playoff games. If you can't make those throws you can't win the games that both Flacco and Eli won to become SB champs.

There are elite QB's that consistently win games in the mediocre landscape of the NFL and their are elite talents that step up under the pressure of the playoffs. Eli and Flacco are elite talent and they are certainly among the top 10 QB's in the NFL.

The Jets had a consistent winner in Pennington with underwhelming talent who could take us to the playoffs but not to far in the playoffs. Sanchez is a guy with mediocre throwing talent who was smart enough to eat the ball when we had a great D and running game. Geno looks like a guy who has the talent and the mental makeup to be big game QB. He needs to learn to play the position in the NFL.

Eli and Flacco -- got hot when it mattered. Eli was supported by the most dominant front four on defense since the Ravens. He played great when it mattered...however he has backed up those great runs by missing the playoffs. Flacco is on pace to do the same.

People are trying to talk themselves into the Geno hype -- the he isn't Sanchez and look how great he is talk. People want for him to be something -- he failed to win the job out of camp, he has been below average through 8 games, and once again the jets have no backup QB that could step in if they needed one to. This is identical to what happened with Sanchez. Parts of the team played well...he made a few big plays...4 years later they are starting over with the same formula.

There is no backup QB that was taking the Giants or the Ravens to SB victories. The Jets drafted Geno, he is either going to develop into a QB who can do it or he isn't.

Everything is identical when you draft a QB. You either hit or you don't. You seem to want to write Geno off based on what he has done so far. What he has done so far I think is pretty good. You think it sucks. In the end it doesn't matter what he has done so far it's what he's going to do for the rest of this season and in the years down the road.

Just because Sanchez washed out doesn't mean Geno is going to wash out. I think it's pretty obvious Geno has better size, he's a better athlete and he has a better arm then Sanchez. He also doesn't sit on the end of the bench and sulk when the D is on the field.

I think you have to consider other factors as well, I agree the #s don't look good, but there are games where Geno helped complete a ton of 3rd down plays. I believe the Patriots we converted 11 of 21 - 52%. That's where QBs make their money, on 3rd down.

Dude, 66% of Luck's attempt went to Wayne this year. That's a sign of a QB who can't read defense. In fact, the coaching staffs don't trust Luck's passing ability. With all his weapons Luck hasn't done much to win games. He is a game manager, like Alex Smith, completing less than 60% of his passes(58%). That's pretty bad given all the weapon they have. I don't know what fundamental you're talking about. Did you watch Luck's MNF first half. That was atrocious and it's no coincidence. There is more where that came from.

Why not? Luck is no ball of fire. High draft picks bust all the time and Luck will be one of them. Did you watch that atrocious display of quarterbacking in the MNF 1st half. I haven't seen performance like this since Tebow. One thing is for sure, Luck is one lucky bastard just like Tebow. But that can't last forever. Tebow would tell you that.

Geno runs a 4.5. He's an athlete. All humans can run but not all humans can run a 4.5

You know absolutely nothing about Andrew Luck and how good he is. Luck has 10 fourth quarter comebacks since he's been in the league. The man doesn't fold or crack under pressure.

The CS doesn't trust Luck? Good Lord, they don't trust him at all, I mean after all they hired his OC from College.

The guy just can't stay above 60%. At some point team performance and individual performances have to be differentiated. fourth-quarter-comebacks is not a stat. Yea your team is winning but if you can't complete 60% of your passes in this NFL your job will be in jeopardy at some point. Plus, Luck doesn't have enough credential, like Brady, to be given leeway for his low completion percentage. Luck have difficulty completing above 60% of his passes when he has more than 30 attempts. The dude is NOT talented, he is just a game manager. And starting next year more attention will be brought to it by the media because the 3rd year is when QBs defines themselves. The 4th year is the contract year. Rumors normally start leaking from within organization regarding players deficiency like who is a game manager. Luck is not gonna get a huge contract while barely able to complete 60% of his passes unless he gets Lucky and win a superbowl like Flacco.
