Interesting, can we absorb the hit?

Well we tried the other way around essentially with Sanchez, that didn't work out.

i don't see how they take that hit.

the hope has to be that next year they can build an offense around a qb...problem is what if Rex is gone and the new coach doesn't want the QB.

I despised the Sanchez pick. He was nothing special in a system that produced multiple busts. He lacked anything special in his tools.

But Geno Smith is even worse. Absolute disaster.

Or give Geno #6 after Sanchez gets cut, not like it's going to get retired :p

I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't why we asked Brick to restructure today.

Then they do with Geno what Carolina did with Jimmy Claussen (i.e. Claussen was a 2nd round pick for the Panthers the year before Cam Newton went #1 overall)

this pick was the best available. one doesn't simply pass on a potential franchise guy because there MIGHT be somebody good next year when its the best option to address a need.

We can sit him and get him ready the right way under a QB friendly coach. that thought, along with the thought that there wasn't much to take from instead, makes me cautiously content with this pick.

True but it seems that was the wrong QB..I don't know if this one is the right one either and that's why the risk is small with only a 2nd round pick.

I'm on the side of those who believe this was a good choice!

The Geno-minator has good upside; his 2012 passing stats @ WV were pretty,d@mn good:

--- CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
    Season-369 518 4205 71.2 8.12 87 42 6 19 163.9
    Home 237 314 2858 75.5 9.10 87 31 6 9 180.7

Hopefully, he'll turn out to be a surprising gift such as Russell Wilson was this past season!

We picked up a pretty good RB in FA. Sanchez simply hasn't shown any growth. He has played like a rookie for 4 years with great talent, good talent and shit talent around him. Geno has a head and is likely to get better.

The Jets wouldn't have done this if Morningwig thought Sanchez was salvageable. New GM new OC perfect time to pick up a smart athletic QB to groom.

I'm here hoping for him to be picked up in the 3rd.

not Tavon, but a solid addition.

Everything I hear out of Geno Smith sounds like a kid that still has a lot of maturing to do. Who's the leader on our team? Because I don't really see one right now.

For me this is his #1 issue. So Geno better lock himself in the film room and not come out until he can!!

if every qb that had good stats in college became a good NFL QB there would be 32 amazing QBs in the league all the time

he has about as much chance as most at succeeding. support him, give him a better opportunity to do so, and lets see where this goes.

don't think it matters how much we support him -- they jets haven't put weapons on the field in 3 years to allow a QB to succeed...and they haven't done it this draft either.
