anthony lynn for OC? Good X's and O's guy, knows film, he's a tough coach. He's one of Rex's guys too. I like Callahan where he is. I used to like the idea of him being promoted, but that was last season.
Spin Alert. The fact is that Joe McNight can only HOPE to reach Woodhead's level as a RB. And that crap about not fitting the scheme is simply BS. The Pats have used Woody mostly as a 3rd down back and that is what McKnight's highest use would be as well. However Woodhead has also proven effective as between the tackles RB in the regular Pats offense as well. McNight has proven NOTHING as a RB. He has had one garbage time, end of the season game. Woodhead has had over 120 carries against some of the best defenses in the league and has come out with a 5.3 ypc average Woodhead is faster, quicker, and is a proven pass catcher. About the only advantage that McKnight has over Woodhead is that he's 3 years younger. Woodhead is entering his 2nd season of real playing opportunity just like McNight, and while Mcnight seems to be developing into a nice special teams player, comparing Woodhead, and him as RBs is simply ludicrous. Its too back Woodhead will likely miss this game. Valid point. I didn't understand that point either your are right again - Woody was done. Did you see him when he showed up on ESPN. He looked like he just ate a small DT. No way he's ready to play for anyone this season his first 4 games, Ellis has been underwhelming, but a player Jet fans would recognize. He's been excellent against the run, and invisible as a pass rusher. Which is not surprising. He missed most of training camp recovering from off season surgery, so he's still rounding into shape. Plax is a downgrade to Edwards PERIOD. Plax can't stretch the field, Edwards could its just that simple. Other than that they are 2 similar players. The fact that Edwards is hurt now is irrelevant.
We haven't seen him play as a Patriot. Overall, he played decent last season but it wasn't great. He had a great January in the playoffs, and I think it was because he was playing for a contract. That paragraph does suck in terms of clarity. My bad.
McKnight does a lot more than Woodhead on the Jets. Woodhead is a younger, quicker version of Kevin Faulk. McKnight has yet to hit his ceiling as a player. He'll get reps and when he does, he'll be a 3rd down back as well, but he returns kicks, blocks kicks, and can blitz on defense. Woodhead's done well in NE, but if it wasn't about the scheme, then he would have stayed here. He's a scheme-specific player. Edwards can't run routes sharply, and they both stretch the field. The chemistry between Sanchez and Plax isn't there yet. Plax is master a jump balls, unlike Edwards.
Jenkins posted this on facebook. Once again I can agree with a lot of what he says. I enjoy the Schotty hate. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/jenkins_super_bowl_out_of_the_question_S5yuOPKTL9LcEVKKJU367H
I didn't bump the thread for it, but after Mason was traded, Jenks took Mason's side. Said he was the only one that spoke the truth to power, he was the only player who was not, in Jenks words, a "puppet" and it got him shipped out. But he also defended Rex, and thinks the problem lays with management. So in other words, Jenks has a blind hate for Tanny. I couldn't disagree more with that, so I didn't bother posting it.But it deserved to be heard, I guess.
This is pretty much what I thought when he said, earlier in the week, that backdoor politics is hurting the team. And quite frankly, it does have that feel. How long have the fans been complaining about Schotty and yet it doesn't sound like management is even close to getting rid of him. Shit, it wouldn't surprise me if (and no, I'm not suggesting this WILL happen) Rex stepped down and they named Schotty his replacement.
Beat the fuckin Dolphins and a lot of this shit goes away for a few days. Beat the Chargers after and it goes away for a while
no, i don't think it does. not if the offense still struggles. we can end up winning those games with the offense being mediocre and it doesn't fix anything
Rex would never step down due to politics. That's a stretch you'd only see in a movie. The pressure will be felt by the organization to make a change if the Jets lose to Miami.
I'm not saying it'll fix the on field problems but we won't hear as much talk about locker room dissension and pointing fingers. Winning cures a lot and being +.500 at the bye would be huge going forward.
oh wow... I'm guessing he's talking about Tanny and Woody being in love with schotty. very interesting. i always thought it was more Rex trying to protect schotty because he liked him
This could turn out to be a telling year for Rex Ryan. Anything less than a playoff appearance and the season is considered a failure. By us the fans, by the media, and by him. While I don't think that Rex is a "book smart" kinda coach, he's been immersed in the game his entire life. He hasn't arrived at his coaching chops by accident. If anything, being Buddy Ryan's son has been just as much of a hindrance as it may have been an advantage. It's painfully obvious that his Achilles heel* is on the offensive side of the ball. Imagine if Mike Westoff wasn't here? Oh vey... Now the players on the d side are letting him down. That's his gang. Let's say the Jets go 9-7 and miss the playoffs. How Ryan addresses the (numerous?) problems on this team will determine (in my mind at least) his long term viability as the NY Jets head coach. Very few coaches at the pro level have had the early success that Rex Ryan has had. He didn't exactly inherit the 1989 San Francisco 49'ers Rex is a great fit for the Jets. I hope that a mediocre season(god forbid) doesn't define his tenure. I want him to stick around. But only if he can get this team back on track. I'm not getting any younger. *An Achilles’ heel is a deadly weakness in spite of overall strength, that can actually or potentially lead to downfall.
