I hated seeing Braylon go but it was clearly the right move, the man did nothing after leaving here. he didn't let Cotch go, Cotch wanted out. we haven't seen the real story on that one but they wanted him to stay. he made a ton of moves to acquire talent and we had some cap issues. he built teams that were SB caliber and could have done so again.
For the second time, who cares what Braylon did after he left? When he was here, he was Mark's favorite target and his most reliable next to Keller. You don't take that away from a young, growing QB. That's pure stupidity on his part and it showed. Ask yourself why we had cap issues.
he had injuries that prevented him from being the explosive player he was. if he was here he wouldn't have magically been healthy. we had cap issues b/c he brought in SB caliber talent and we had to overpay a bit. the cap was easily cleaned up, we had a down year in 2012 but fans wanted him out and then get Idzik and now fans want Idzik out and when he is fired they will want the next guy out. There's a reason fans are fans and not working for NFL teams.
This, and I am not sure what happenned with the 49ers, but it just didnt work there. If he was on the 2011 Jets team he would have continued the success he had in 2010, he wasnt old, he wasnt injured either.
They replaced Braylon with Plaxico Burress... who hadn't played football in two years and gave him $500k less than what Edwards signed in SF for. And Edwards wasn't hurt when he left here, that's just not true. There is absolutely no defending the decisions Tanny has made at WR between who to let go, who to sign and who to draft. He swung and missed enough times to end an inning.
He was ACTUALLY injured with the 49ers, that was the problem. He was not injured when Tanny stupidly let him walk.
they weren't signing Holmes and Edwards to big deals. they signed holmes. Edwards did nothing in SF and didn't last the year. I loved Braylon and wanted him back but I don't think if he's back that's the difference. I think if we had Cotch back that could have been the difference.
Why do you keep talking about Braylon's productivity in SF like it's even remotely relevant? You're right, we weren't bringing both back, but instead Tanny chose the one that would further hamstring the cap and was a renowned negative locker room presence. Again, there's no way to spin this and there's DEFINITELY no way to defend it.
it is absolutely relevant, no one wanted to sign him. he signed for cheap in SF then failed. clearly there was an issue there. he wasn't magically going to be 2010 Braylon just b/c he was in a Jets uni again.
he didn't, he had his 3rd most recs in a season w/ Seattle. Braylon had 15 recs in 9 games in 2011 w/ SF, yds per rec went down 5 yds.
You're cherry-picking. He went from 78 catches in NE to 53 the next year in Seattle. Declined every year but one as he got older. He goes back to NE and he has 48 catches in 9 starts... which is more catches than all but 1 year in Seattle. The point is there's a team and a system in place that a player feels comfortable in. Chemistry between a QB and WR can be the world of difference. You're nuts if you're going to sit there any tell me Sanchez didn't have great chemistry with Edwards. That reason and that reason alone is why you bring him back. His production in SF is 100% irrelevant to the conversation.
Now that we've confirmed Tanny made awful decisions that led to his own demise and no one can be blamed but Tanny himself... let's get back to the topic at hand: This is a dumb idea that will not work and a lot of people pissed away money.
2005 w/ NE: 16 games, 78 recs, 998 yds, 12.8 yds per, 4 TDs 2006 w/ Sea: 14 games, 53 recs, 725 yds, 13.7 yds per, 5 TDs huge difference? Again I wanted Braylon back but looking back that wasn't the killer move. we got lucky we didn't sign him to big deal.
You're cherry-picking my friend... big time. He played 5 years in Seattle, not 1. There was no one killer move. It was a collection of multiple stupid moves that led to the demise of the team. All of them can be credited to the GM.
not cherry picking at all. Just tearing through a weak argument that has nothing to do w/ Braylon. You said Branch "ONLY" worked in NE, that clearly wasn't the case. the same GM that built SB caliber teams w/o an elite QB.

He was banged up most of his time in Seattle so he didn't put up great #s(never put up great #s in NE either by the way). that has nothing to do w/ Braylon who no one wanted in 2011 and hasn't been able to get back into the league since we let him go in 2013.
