I've just watched it again. Smith does go high on the hit but didn't seem like he clubbed or deliberately laid a shot. If Smith could be that precise in his hits, body positioning and control he would be decleating players all day evry day. I don't reckon it was a deliberate cheap hit just focused on knocking the shit out of Welker. That is a problem because it's loose and not necessarily disciplined
All of the camera angles from the game weren't very good. I think Smith was looking to ring Welker up, but came in high, and Welker was going low. Welker is one hell of an actor if he was faking it. The ball was already past both of them when Smith hit him. In that regard, it was unecassary, but I don't think he intentionally went for the head either. He went with a fore arm shiver and it landed high.
This is a hit on a defenseless WR , I still can't find Smith's hit on youtube for comparison but Smith's hit was no where near as bad as this (ironically on Welker as well)
I got a chance to watch it again and I'm not sure where you heard simms say it was a bad call b/c Simms agreed 100% that it was the correct call. Watching the angles on Tv you cannot tell how far over his head the ball was from Welker when we he was hit but you can certainly see the forearm to the head- it was 100% w/o a doubt the correct call.
If Smith needs to be fined...so does this fucking guy. No shoulder is even remotely close to making first contact. #25 is lucky he doesnt paralyze himself with his bullshit, head down, lead with the helmet hits.
I thought the fines for last week were already out, did he get fined? I don't feel like going back to through this tread to see.
EXACTLY - LOOK AT THAT PIC... IT WAS NEVER A FOREARM SHIVER His arms were open he was going for the ball and he actually Pulled up on the hit.
You don't give someone a shiver and go for a $7,500 KNOCKOUT PUNCH by hitting someone with the inside of your arm and your chest... Ridiculous... If they want to claim late hit, I'd have to see it again.. but, the play was BS to me and a good acting job...
So the picture a few posts up, that shows the ball at the bottom of the screen, Smith in the air, with his forearm hitting Welker in the side of the head isn't enough evidence for people? Really? If that was, say, Bodden doing it to Cotchery, this board would be screaming that $7500 was a smack on the wrist. You people really need to remove the green colored glasses. How do you even see where you're walking?
