Philly making this deal would be Chip Kelly staking his career on Mariotta, because if it doesn't work out and they not only get stuck with any less than an elite QB in performance and end up deficient in talent because he traded away 3 additional high picks, he's done. What is the likelihood he feels that strongly about Mariotta that he's willing to do so? This is all media driven; there's less chance that anyone in the eagles is leaking this info than Kelly actually making the trade. And the football market eats it up just so they have something to discuss.
It's high for a variety of reasons. 1) He publically LOVES Mariota, we already know he thinks the world of him. 2) Chip Kelly has 3 years left on his deal. He hasn't had a stable QB since he arrived in Philly. At some point you have to stake it in someone if you have a shot in hell of staying around. With 3 years left, and combined with his love for Marcus, it seems extremely likely he would mortgage the future on him. This is the point a lot of people miss too. This is the NFL as we all know, here today gone tomorrow. You can't win without a QB and he doesn't have one. And he's an offensive coach. He needs to turn around and say "this is our guy."
Foles is so good that his coach would be willing to throw him and a bunch of high picks in to replace him.
Chip Kelly is a god and would never make a mistake as is every other head coach in the past that has made a quarterback change.
If Mariota gets by the Jets at 6 he might fall all the way to 20 for Kelly. I could see the Saints taking him at 13 to sit behind Brees for a couple of years, like Aaron Rodgers did in Green Bay. I'm not sure I see anybody else that is likely to take him at this point. The Browns are a wild card but if they take him a year after taking Manziel, well that's going to be an interesting statement on Manziel.
I highly doubt Jets would pass on him. Also highly doubt the Rams would or the Browns twice. I don't see any way it makes any sense for the Eagles to get in front of the Jets. The Eagles biggest issue is they need to completely rebuild there D. The only hope for them is if he slips by 10 then they can try to trade up. So basically no chance.
I think Kelly is bold enough to do it though, that's the thing. On top of the fact that if I'm him I really don't care if people declare it the end of me as an NFL coach because I'll take my talents back to college and compete for national championships there every year.
Chip's an idiot and he's being selfish. Love him as a coach.. enjoyed his first year spark.. but he's not that bright...ego way too big. This isn't madden, nor is it the NCAA. He'll be on the hottest of hot seats come 2016, mariota or not. 2 minute offense with a shitty defense and your trying to trade the whole future away... lmaoooo.. ahhh philly philly.
He is an idiot because the fans and media are making up some retarded rumors? Did Chip come out and say that he will mortgage the future and his D to go get Mariota?
When you are on record comparing Mariota to Peyton Manning than yes, he pretty much said it. The best thing that could ever happen for him IF he does try to make a move for Mariota is getting rejected.
im just going on what i see. dont forget that chip is ore inclined to do it to get "his guy". he recruited mariotta. he believes that the kid is tailor fitted to play in his offense and do all the weird chip kelly stuff that he cant do with foles or nacho
