Foles is more valuable than any draft pick that we could get past the 2nd round. A 3rd and a 5th are meaningless if he isnt included in the deal. Also gotta factor in that the Eagles want to include Foles in any deal instead of giving up a million picks.
That's not enough IMO If Kelly wants him that bad he would need a package of Foles plus 2 1st plus 2nd. Nothing less! Mariota is going to be a stud IF he even falls to 6 it would be a miracle.
He might be worth a third rounder but I wouldn't go nutz with Foles. Foles did great in Chip Kelly's system as did Sanchez. Sure, Foles looked great in Philly with McCoy, Calin, etc. but can he carry the offense on this team? I don't think so.
You don't throw 27 TD passes to 2 Int's in a season in the NFL unless you have some talent, system or no. I'd be happy to take a shot on Foles for a year or two to see what he has. He'd be the starting QB by default and if Geno beat him out it would mean Geno is playing a lot better than he has.
If Foles played the entire season last year there's a pretty good chance that the Eagles make the playoffs IMO. Sanchez might've put up alright numbers due to Chip's system but I wouldnt say he played great in it. Foles is big , he has a good arm , he's accurate. He's a flat out good QB right now. If he was a free agent he would be highly sought after this offseason. Plus he's still young so I dont think he's a finished product...and even though we dont have a DJax, Maclin and McCoy here we do have some weapons with more on the way most likely. If we swapped picks with Philly we could get a playmaker at 20 and acquire another 2-3 premium picks in the process. If that is the deal on the table I would hope the Jets dont pass on it.
Ok, so the Eagles get to keep Nick Foles while moving up from #20 to #6 so as to grab Marcus Mariota (assuming Mariota's still there which I seriously doubt). The Jets meanwhile don't draft until #20 (minus Foles) and at #20 lose out on WRs Cooper & White, OLBs Dante Fowler, Gregory & Ray, OLs Scherff & Peat. Next year, assuming they "improve" to say, 6-10 or 7-9, that roughly translates to the #9-#12 pick as well as Philly's #20 (assuming they end up around 10-6 again). Jets 2015: #20 and 2 extra picks at #84 and #148 <----- are those positions "money in the bank?" Jets 2016: #9-12 and an extra pick at #20. Nah, not worth the blue chipper you'd be giving up this year as well as the overall package (i.e. an additional #20, #84 and #148). But more to the point, again I'm thinking the point is probably moot because assuming TB goes QB with the first pick, I'm not convinced that Tennesse at #2 is completely sold on Mettenberger. If Winston or Mariota are already gone #6 (most likely) then play it straight up and grab BPA be it a play maker (e.g White), a force (e.g. Fowler), etc. and go from there.
what do you mean wait for Mariotta? the Eagles would only offer this to the Jets if Mariotta was still available at the sixth pick? why would the Eagles offer it to the Jets when the other teams ahead of the Jets hadn't selected yet and could still take Mariotta? did you even think about the scenario you were proposing?
Devin Smith ran a 4.47 40. Big Play Wideout. Never looks pretty or clean..Just makes plays. Like Steve Smith. Keep the pick.
And you think he'd be able to trade the same compensation to trade to 2 that he would have to trade to get to 6? Doubtful
After yesterdays combine both QB's will be gone before the 3rd pick. Jets would have to move up to get one.
Unless some team gives us a King's Ransom similar to what the Cowboys fleeced the Vikings for to get Herschel Walker, we have to stay put at 6 and draft MM if he's there. Like I said before, I don't know if he'll ever be top 5 in the league good, however I think Mariota will have a long, productive pro career. I think he's a top 10 NFL QB down the line IMO. Those are very hard to come by as we all know. The Jets better not get cute at 6 if he's still there.
