Walls are a sign that the underlying culture is not as strong as it seems. Most of the big ones have worked for awhile but the civilization involved has collapsed from other underlying pressures at some point after the wall was put up. They're also expensive as hell to maintain and garrison and the costs of doing that don't help a civilization already under pressure.

None of the 9/11 hijackers came from the 7 countries in the executive order. They were mostly from Saudi Arabia, with others from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Lebanon.

Pakistan has a large number of extremist Madrassas, many of which are effectively terrorist indoctrination centers. Why is Pakistan not on the list?

Afghanistan hosted Al-Qaida during the run-up to 9/11 - why are the Afghans not on the list?

The answer most likely is that most of the countries on the list are Shiite majority, under the influence of Iran or have no effective governmental structure.

Shiites aren't the group in the Muslim world that are producing terrorists. Fundamentalist Sunnis are the group that is producing most of the terror.

Why is this list designed to exclude the Muslims least likely to be terrorists and why does it not include the countries most likely to export terror to the US?

It makes no sense at all, which is not surprising given the person making the call.

What one Republican thinks of Trump:

"Trump, in one spectacular week, has already shown himself one of the worst of our presidents, who has no regard for the truth (indeed a contempt for it), whose patriotism is a belligerent nationalism, whose prior public service lay in avoiding both the draft and taxes, who does not know the Constitution, does not read and therefore does not understand our history, and who, at his moment of greatest success, obsesses about approval ratings, how many people listened to him on the Mall, and enemies."

"Precisely because the problem is one of temperament and character, it will not get better. It will get worse, as power intoxicates Trump and those around him. It will probably end in calamity—substantial domestic protest and violence, a breakdown of international economic relationships, the collapse of major alliances, or perhaps one or more new wars (even with China) on top of the ones we already have. It will not be surprising in the slightest if his term ends not in four or in eight years, but sooner, with impeachment or removal under the 25th Amendment. The sooner Americans get used to these likelihoods, the better."

Not going to give any more of my opinions about the latest scruf, just scouring some articles and posting information that may or may not help folks figure all this out....

always try to fact check these things if time permits...

for u BO supporters - below is NOT an attempt to rain on ur parade, just an article that on the surface appears to have factual data. Of course, for some it really doesn't matter what the ingredients are, its just who is cooking them.

    From Washington Examiner

Obama has barred huge groups of potentially dangerous immigrants from entering the United States at least six times, undercutting his claim that barring Muslims from terrorist countries as Donald Trump has proposed is un-American.

In his first ban, according to a search of White House records, Obama instituted a ban on “immigrants or nonimmigrants” covered by a larger United Nations travel ban. He also included those on an economic sanctions list. Most countries were Muslim.

He cited the very same section of law that many critics of his policies have asked him to use, “section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.” It says, “Whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrant’s or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

He used the same provision five other times, one more in 2011, twice in 2012 and twice in 2014. In those, he targeted people aiding Iran, Syria, Crimea, and those involved in war crimes.

Still, in his latest tirade against Trump’s call for a ban on Muslims from terror nations, Obama said such bans violate the American way.

In reaction to the Orlando terror attack, Trump said, “When I’m elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies until we fully understand how to end these threats.”

Obama ripped him. “That’s not the America we want,” he said. “It doesn’t reflect our democratic ideals. It will make us less safe.”

White House documents also show that former President Bill Clinton issued six immigrant bans; George W. Bush six immigrant bans; and former President Ronald Reagan four. And in 1980, former President Jimmy Carter banned Iranians after Tehran seized the U.S. embassy.

    Below are Obama’s actions:

    — July 25, 2011. Barred those under a UN travel ban, or who broke 29 executive orders covering transactions with terrorists.

    — Aug. 4, 2012. Banned anybody involved in war crimes, or just about any other crime including human rights violations.

    — April 23, 2012. Barred those helping Syria or Iran, or involved in human rights abuses for those governments.

    — May 1, 2012. Another block on those helping Iran and Syria.

    — April 3, 2014. Banned anyone known to threaten South Sudan.

    — March 6, 2014 . Barred entry of those claiming government authority in the Crimea region of Ukraine, presumably on behalf of Moscow.

Yes. The Obama Administration put together this list some years ago. They simply identified countries of concern and put in some restrictions like the visa-waiver travel.

Trump originally wanted a MUSLIM ban which is troubling (giuliani said so) . Couldn't do it so he dug up this list to use. When asked yesterday why saudi arabia isn't on the list it is because they didn't have time to add it and the other countries Trump has business with.

If Trump is as serious as he says he is he'll add them in the future. We'll have to wait and see if it actually happens though. My guess is that it won't happen.

Listen carefully....I'll explain it again to you slowly (the part you bolded).

It's very simple: I love the Jew in you (who you are); I dislike the 'creep' that you are (i.e. what you are). . The distinction's very simple.

As for "sharing the comments of others" goes, are the comments of others attributable to you or to me? . Of course not. . So asking me to defend comments I did not make is just as empty-headed as you demanding FJF defend a position he did not take. Whatever triggers these "neurotic projections" of yours, they have no standing here. . And while I shouldn't have to, . I'll slowly explain this again to you for the last time: . criticizing the policies of a country does not make one a bigot, i.e. criticism of Israeli settlement-building on Palestinian land does not auto-default to anti-Semitism. .

So put a sock in it and move on with your phony baloney "monsters!...monsters!...I see monsters everywhere!" b.s...

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...s-refugee-policy-is-similar-to-obama-in-2011/

"Former Obama administration Jon Finer denied there was any ban in Iraqi refugees admissions put in place under Obama. “While the flow of Iraqi refugees slowed significantly during the Obama administration’s review, refugees continued to be admitted to the United States during that time, and there was not a single month in which no Iraqis arrived here,” he wrote in Foreign Policy. “In other words, while there were delays in processing, there was no outright ban.”

    The Pinocchio Test
So what’s the difference with Trump’s action?
First, Obama responded to an actual threat — the discovery that two Iraqi refugees had been implicated in bomb-making in Iraq that had targeted U.S. troops. (Iraq, after all, had been a war zone.) Under congressional pressure, officials decided to reexamine all previous refugees and also impose new screening procedures, which led to a slowdown in processing new applications.
Trump, by contrast, issued his executive order without any known triggering threat. (His staff has pointed to attacks unrelated to the countries named in his order.)"

Nearly every administration has had specific reasons for banning immigrants at various times. No one has banned wholesale *everyone*
with a religious affiliation, including 12 year old girls whose parents are American citizens:

None of these are global bans. They all target individuals in specific categories.

Trump's ban is a global ban on all travelers from the countries in question (holding the passport of one of the countries in question.) Exceptions are made after investigation.

His ban on immigration is all immigrants from those countries.

Obama's actions were all designed to target specific individuals identified on specific lists or found to be involved in the proscribed activities.

    It's not the same thing.

It's the equivalent of other countries banning all Americans, vs banning just right-wing militia members or the KKK or people involved in a coup of other illegal attempt to take over the government of a region or state.

    http://www.usnews.com/opinion/world...muslim-immigration-executive-order-gets-wrong

    - Foreign nationals from the seven banned countries haven't killed any Americans on U.S. soil.

    - None of the four countries from which the 9/11 terrorists originated (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon) are subjected to travel ban.

    - In 2016, the United States admitted 85,000 refugees, which was less than 0.4 percent of the some 21.3 million refugees worldwide. Of these, about 12,500 came from Syria, which was less than 0.2 percent of the 4.8 million Syrian refugees outside of Syria.

I agree. I haven't read anything in the Executive Order that states otherwise. Obviously there has been confusion and mistakes made by the enforcing agencies, but nothing mandated by the order.
