Yep, the cheapest labor plus high taxes are the reason why it's cheaper to manufacture in Mex, the reason why there is a trade deficit. This is also the reason why Mexico will play Trump's game. If they stop all trade, they will lose $60B annually. So long as the sum of all conslcessions to Trump is less than this number, it's in Mexico’s favor to talk. Eg. for them it's better to have something than nothing. Now... 60B is better than <60B. Hence the posturing, the hanging up of Trumps phone, the press releases, etc. But at the end of the day, Mexico stands to lose 60B, and they know it. Worse for Mex, Trump knows it too. They'll play around, make loud noises, appeal to Hollyweird, Obama, Gorbachev, but at the end of the day, they will talk and will make a deal.
Yeah, I didn't get that Iranian threat either... Potential extremists don't enter US, and US citizens now less likely to be jeopardized or converted to extremism by entering Iran. Sounds like win-win for us.

Mexico will lose money, but not all of the 60B because they can increase exports to other countries. Still you're right that Mexico will have to cut a deal with us. But Mexico's loss in that deal won't be our gain. Producers who are losing jobs to Mexico and their communities will benefit. Everyone else won't.

Brooklyn Judge just ordered a National stay on the Muslim Ban. No muslim that is already here with legal status can be deported for the present time.
