Just because there is a similar weapon doesn't make trivial to ban. That's a similar approach to "ban all guns," just the other side of the fence.

I'm for mental health checks... it would take decades, and probably some small militia battles to make guns illegal... outside of that, i dont own or blame guns.

I was just merely explaining the whole assault rifle concept, which is total BS used by the gun grabbing politicians to frighten the masses. "Assault rifles, weapons of war" that are not used by military or SWAT but sure make for catchy headlines.

    All right.

AR-15 is not "technically" an assault rifle. Or assault weapon for that matter. Colt AR-15 does not come with selective fire option. Only Safe/Fire option.

    That said:

    Does that matter?

    AR-15:

    1. Uses intermediate cartridges That includes 5.56x45mm NATO. Anything above 9mm Parabellum basically qualifies. It is using same ammo that the military uses. In other words, its lethality and stopping power is nothing short of military grade weapon. Are you telling me AR-15 is a weaker version of the military grade assault rifle [simply because it doesn't come with burst/auto option?]

    2. Because of the ammo being used, AR-15 sports same 3/8 range. [Or 3/6 for you M-4 folks.] In terms of lethality and the effective range, there is no difference.

    3. Moreover, it's a mag-fed rifle system. Loading and shooting the next target is very swift. Yes. Even without that precious "burst" option you are trying to cling to.

Seriously, if you exchange the lower receiver that has burst option, the upper receiver will function as the "technically proper" assault rifle just fine. As we have seen in the Nevada shooting case not long ago.

Last, but not the least: burst option is meaningless when the shooter is firing at a multitude of civilian. It will just create a close cluster of 3 bullets. That's a waste of ammo if killing more people is the goal. Either way, against defenseless civilians, there is no difference in lethality. Except it doesn't come with burst option. Is it that big of a deal? Really?

    We have gun control.

I've read that this guy was autistic, although I have not confirmed that. Imo autistic people should certainly not be allowed to buy guns.

There were a lot of warning signs with this individual and the FBI was even tipped off on more than one occasion. It sure seems like this one could have been avoided, but as is often the case government officials dropped the ball.

He posted on YouTube with his own figgen name that he was going to be a professional school shooter. There are fewer than 20 people in the country with that name.

Perhaps we should make threats of this nature a more serious crime and make law enforcement look into them more aggressively. People have first amendment rights but there are certain things you can't say.

Here's a cool 12 guage shotgun. Puts bigger holes in things than any ammo the ar15 is shooting.

    I think I need one.

I'd rather build a diesel PC rig with that money, maybe go into a "virtual war zone"

diesel PC rig? That's an actual thing?

If there was no AR15 these sickos would just move onto something else. He could have been similarly destructive with a couple of hand guns.

Okay, you want to play word games, let me try again - Do we have sufficient gun control?

I don't think gun control works.

I mean it's fine, but the logic of "there are other weapons out there that are similarly destructive, so gun control is pointless" is just as weak as "ban all guns."

If fact, i would say you are helping prove their point by saying that. If there are so many of equal destruction, then "ban all guns" isn't that much of a generalization.

banning and eliminating all guns is the only way to prevent this stuff IMO. I disagree with that and don't even think it would be possible but I think it's the only sound argument.

even then, it's only a matter of time before 3d printing technology makes it simple to print a gun.

Trump didn't even acknowledge that the Russians did in fact meddle in the election. Remember how he was "unconvinced" when all of his directors of intelligence agencies concluded that they did. Now he is definitively saying that the meddling did not change the outcome of the election, even correcting his own NSA on twitter. That's wishful thinking. He's a minority president who lost the popular vote. You can't say for sure that the Russian meddling did not change the outcome, because how would you know?

All fake news. Do you want me to post all the accidental shootings with guns that
occur? Why do you believe this but not the news about Trump? Did
you notice he didn't call out ANY of the 13 Russians named in the indictments,
instead, blamed the Russia investigation for causing the Florida shooting. Does
your dunce president know that there is a group of guys in the FBI doing the
Russia investigation, and another group of guys doing domestic crime, and another
doing domestic terrorism, and another group doing call-ins? That one does not
affect the other? He doesn't want to stop Russian interference because it helps him!
It's incredible that this is happening, yet the dunces love it! Even 17 year old kids
know (and say) that the Russian operation has nothing to do with the shooting!

That's ridiculous. How small does your dick have to be to want something like that? I mean, I'm half Irish, and I can't even imagine.
