Well since you asked, my power currently comes from the 3 mile Island Nuclear Plant on the Susquehanna River. Have a nice day...

I wish we'd create more nuclear plants. It's been wrongly demonized and is actually something that could power the country as opposed to solar & wind.

Why are you opposed to privatizing ATC?

1st, there's nothing really wrong with the way it is now that more technology couldn't cure. Privatizing ATC would create a tiered system in which the more profitable Airlines would get priority over the discounters. The Airlines have never made so much money as they are today. They are cramming more seats into less space maximizing dollars at the expense of customer service and comfort. By creating a tiered ATC system, you would in effect create a caste system for air travelers. The rich would have the best gates, the best routes, the best controllers. The rest of us will just have to roll the dice. Perhaps more airports instead of X Corporation dictating what level of support that flight will be given. Who knows, perhaps a real job or two might be created if they did build more airports.

I was involved in several FAA infrastructure projects between 1994 and 2008. Everything from voice to radar was upgraded and modernized and put on a nationwide WAN. As of today, every mid to large airport tower nationwide is monitored. I can't go into details but trust me, ATC is fine and doesn't need Trump to "save it". What should be looked at is how often the airlines cry broke when in fact, they're squeezing every nickle and dime from travelers. Everything from exorbitant fees for phantom costs to simply kicking people off airplanes that have already ponied up the fare.

If its a 21st century Caste System Trump wants to create, he's certainly going about it the right way.

comes Trump's plan to privatize air traffic control!

Clearly it's a tremendous idea because the man in the photo has his arms raised and is celebrating! :D

I'd take nuclear over coal any day of the week. Though unlike other plants, Indian Point makes me nervous because in the event of a catastrophe, there's no way to evacuate the region.

Perhaps the earthquake fault its built on might be more problematic.

The free market has a great way of dealing with companies like this.

I thought this was a good article discussing the pros and cons.

Good, balanced article for once. My fear is a ATC system that is fee based. What is the point of assigning a "non-profit" company to run things when the current system itself already is non-profit? There is no good reason to privatize ATC unless the object is to turn it into a for-profit business. Upgrades can be streamlined but there's a reason why procurement has to go thru so many hurdles. Remember the $100 toilet seat from the 80's? You can't have no-oversight when you're talking about the security of perhaps one of the most critical aspect of this country's infrastructure. You can't give John Dillinger the keys to the bank.

Probably because each aircraft had the same right to operate in international airspace and the US often intercepts Russian aircraft in similar situations. Why would you believe an extensive, aggressive offensive is called for?

Because Trump called Obama weak for not doing it. So if Trump thinks Obama would be weak for these kinds of things, he needs to not be such a giant wuss himself.

Geeze, I hope you're being facetious. Let's just start WWIII over what is almost an everyday occurrence.

Edited to add: I'm relieved to have gone back to look at some of your other postings to fairly reliably perceive you were, in fact, being facetious but around here there are way too many guys who could have made that post in all seriousness.

Don't worry, I wasn't serious about starting a nuclear holocaust.
