I MIGHT do a swap of #1s plus Lee for Clark, but no way I give up next year's #1. But frankly I want to see them recoup a 2nd rounder in whatever deal they make for the #3 pick, and Seattle doesn't have a 2nd rounder. That said, getting Clark negated having to take a pass rusher or other "D" guy first, and opens up a higher chance of them taking OL or a skill player with the first pick so I would be pleased if that happened.
I think that would be a horrible trade. Why trade for a 4-3 DE when we play a 3-4 base, and he has never played standing up? For starters, we don't know whether he will be able to make that transition, and you don't trade a high draft pick and then pay that player $17 million or more per season to make that transition. Why should we make that trade when we can draft an OLB who has experience playing the position, could wind up being better than Clark, and we have him cheaply for 5 years?
Seahawks also get $17M off the books, and Jets get $17M more on the books, which makes this an unfair trade. Not worth it IMO. Teams get better when they hit on elite players on rookie contracts. We already signed a lot of FAs, and the last big one to play a season was Trumaine Johnson. Let's hold off on any more signings in the near future.
I think trading for Clark would be a truly terrible move. We are finally getting a core of good, young players together. Trading away our picks for older, troubled players who others teams are trying to dump is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing. We should build from the draft.
If 'Cards decide to keep Rosen and trade out of top spot (say with the Giants at #6), they will be flush with draft pics and may trade their first 2nd round pick (#33 overall) to the Jets for Darron Lee, the best middle linebacker EVER! (just ask MacCagnan). This would be our 'dream' scenario. We get rid of Lee AND pick up a 2019 2nd round pick that's one spot out of the first round. Then, we can package THAT pick (#33) with one of our 3rd round pics to move back up into the bottom of the 1st round. That way we would get the 5th yr option of whoever we take. Dream on!!!
Fjay IF he took an O lineman in the 3rd round I would do handstands as I don't think it will happen its not in Macs DNA. As far as the guy we traded for he could easily turn out to be Ryan Clady revisited, time will tell I hope he is not.
Not really sure why you wouldn’t just want to give up next years 1 and keep the 3? You add two premier players. I’m a worst case scenario they trade a 2020 1st for Clark then move down from 3 and recoup the picks. Unless i missed it somewhere, i don’t think anyone was talking about giving up the #3 overall and a 2020 1st. That’s what Khalil Mack went for. Clark isn’t Mack.
I'm not buying it. No team 'demands' another team's top five pick in a trade. Anyone with a shred of common sense should know that type of pick is off limits. And we don't have the ammo but the Chiefs picking at the end of each round do? A 2020 #1 gets a deal done and Clark is worth it to the Jets. We haven't had a DE with that kind of sacks potential since they traded away John Abraham almost 15 years ago. Get Clark, draft Quinnen Williams at #3 this defense could be something special.
