It hasn't worked when he hired GMs on his own. It also didn't work when he commissioned a couple of has been NFL guys to help and it hasn't worked when he outsourced at least one search. I don't know of another option but a handful of people here could probably do no worse in identifying either experienced NFL executives who would be in a position to identify the best candidates or be those candidates themselves. I got the idea in the past that route failed when the consultants Johnson brought in to help were seemingly more interested in getting a good job for a crony than serving their stated purpose. Anybody have any ideas?
Real questions: Does he have any experience in football off the field? Is he well connected with executives from across the league? Is he the next Ozzie Newsome?
Yeah and most of the best coaching hires aren't even proven HCs, they're up and coming OCs and sometimes DCs. The problem is that we just never pick the right guys. Many of the best coaches in the league right now were first time HCs with their current teams. We should be looking at guys like Ben Johnson and Bobby Slowik.
