In my mind Uzomah and Tomlinson are FOR SURE post June 1 cuts for the jets. Each time gets only 2 and they should be it. Tomlinson has been close to the NFL's worst rated guard for two years mow. Douglas will probably restructure them both, rather than admit they were piss-poor signings.

I don't understand June 1st cuts. Why can't every contract just be based on after the SB instead of making us wait so many months?

    Sent from my genius mind.

Lazard is Aaron's boy and probably not going anywhere, especially with Corey Davis retiring last TC. We need another WR1 to replace Corey to play opposite GW, pushing Lazard back to WR3, which is what he was hired for. Promoting Lazard to WR2 last season was a huge mistake. One that may have been un-avoidable with Corey retiring so late in the game, but we simply can't make that mistake again this season.

Cuts before June 1 mean the full cap hit happens this year.
Cuts after June 1 mean the cap hit gets split between this year and next year. (not a 50/50 split, though-- this year's salary money hits for this year and the rest of contract, no matter how many years, hits next year).

As to WHY the NFL does it this way, they claim various things about what's in the best interest of players so they can heal up, etc., but it's really so that most of free agency is happening AFTER the draft. The early action is for guys who ran out their contracts to the end, then they let personnel departments focus on college players and getting ready for the draft, then the teams and the cut players get to play musical chairs.

What would be in the best interest of the player would be getting set free at the earliest possible time to find another place to go.
