I believe the Jets lose the right to franchise him if they buy back the last 2 years. Unless Obviously, if the holdout puts the tag back in play than yes they are going to tag him. However, my guess is he holdouts again anyhow.
Woody feels hes not going to play this year. Is it just me or is there still like a month till the season starts? Your going to tell me that in the next month 0 progress is going to be made? That doesnt make any sense to me.
This is a huge factor in what's going on now. Tannenbaum, Feinsod and Schwartz have history at this point and it's not good history. Couple that fact with the advice that Revis is getting from Gilbert and Law and it becomes hard to see how he stays with the Jets unless the team totally caves to his position. A trade really is going to be the best option for the Jets at this point and probably for Revis as well. The problem is going to be getting his camp to accept the fact that the market for his services is probably 10-11 million a year and not the 15 he's looking for. He might draw offers north of 10-11 million if he was a UFA but he certainly won't in a trade scenario given that the team that acquires him is going to have to give up a couple of firsts at a minimum and probably a corner also.
It's all pr. If Woody says that now, we're prepared for that potentiality. If all we get is the positive spin, "we're hopeful to get a deal in place in the near future," then all of a sudden it's September, the team looks bad. Now, the ball is clearly in Revis' court, and his demands are considered unreasonable. Brilliant move by Woody.
The relationship imo is unrepairable after that. How can he be around his teammates after he pulls a stunt like that? I'm still holding out hope that he plays this year, either under a band aid or they come to terms on a new contract...or his love of the game forces him to play this year for the million.
What kind of asshats meet to negotiate a 100 Million Dollar NFL contract in a roadside diner? They're obviously posturing for hard knocks and as such there is really no reason for us to get overly fretful about this situation. Relle held out 3 yrs ago for this contract and now he is holding out again b/c he doesn't like the contract he just held out for. That says alot. Yes the Jets approached Relle about this in January, but the fact that he is holding out again is telling in terms of how he views his personal and business relationship w/Woody and the Jets. The Jets know what they are willing to pay for him and how they can structure that deal. Presumably they have made this clear to Revis and explained to him why. If not the Jets should insist on meeting w/Revis directly and they should explain to him what the parameters need to be for this to work. They should agree to answer any questions he has. If they need somebody to get in the room with them to help get this done, that should be facillitated. If Revis refuses to accept the parameters of this situation, refuses to sit down with the Jets face to face, or refuses to bring in a third party to help resolve any impasses - this will confirm that he is unable/unwilling to work in good faith to resolve the disagreement. If there is no agreement and if Revis sits out, then both sides lose, but Revis loses much more than the Jets do. No trade. Let him sit and not get paid.
its so hard to compare Revis to Mangold and Harris because of the labor deal in place - Mangold and Harris are extremely limited by the 30% rule. Revis can be given any crazy amount of money - at least for this year That said, I hope he's back for 2010 season - the thought of even proposing a trade is ridiculous - he's a great player and a great team leader
Revis is the Anti-Christ if he sits out the year. He will forever regret that move and prove that he is just like all the other selfish athletes and not a true leader. A leader is one who puts the interest of the team ahead of his own. Not a popular idea these days of selfish, self-absorbed, egotistical jerks parading as football players.
We've also heard that he's has backed down from that demand and was asking for $30mil/3 years with a high end of guaranteed money. It seems as though fans keep latching on to the information that helps them form their opinions here. I'm willing to go with Puck's assessment that, despite Twitter, Forums, CBSSports, PFT, ESPN...etc. we really have no fucking clue what is going on behind the doors with these negotiations.
Our offense will define our 2010. The defense would still be solid without Revis so I'm not ready to get all panicky and shit if he sits out the entire year
