Damn, I was watching SportsCenter earlier today and they had a breaking news alert on the bottom....too bad it was about stupid ass Roger Clemens
If any of you guys watch Around the Horn, you should know that Reali gave Cowlishaw a negative 45 to start the game. Funny stuff.
LOL... I was just passing over channels and saw he had like -43.. I was wondering if it had to do with Revis. He was getting abused, and still is, bad..
He also just said that Mariano Rivera had Tommy John surgery, which is not true. http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2009/08/mariano_rivera_tommy_john_and.html He's not having a very good couple of weeks.
I'm fascinated by the question asked (by WSW, I think?) of whether or not Revis will be rooting for the Jets to lose/the Secondary to get lit-up in the first few games of the season if he continues to hold out during that time. If that happens, if Flacco and Brady torch the Secondary, then Tanny may very well cave and give Revis the contract he wants. So, while it sucks to admit this, I can definitely picture him rooting for that scenario to unfold. But what I find even MORE fascinating is that I'm sure Tanny and Rex have considered this scenario and what it would mean in terms of both leverage and the season's success. And therefore, I'd love to see Rex's Defensive gameplans as a result of those two crucial elements -- if we thought he was creative before, I can't imagine the type of stuff he'll be concocting for the Defense since so much will hinge on the Defense's performance. Rex is already a mad-scientist; what will his D look like when he's extra-motivated to show it can sustain its elite status without Revis??
if they lose the first two games, and the secondary gets torched, i tell revis play out your existing contract or you can sit for the next 3 years. at some point, you draw a line in the sand. the steelers have done allright for 40 years letting guys walk when they get out of hand with salary demands, and that was even long before the salary cap.
Yep, that would be ideal for him. Agreed. But my overall point is that Rex's ego is so enormous and he takes so much pride in his Defense that he'll be even more motivated to show he can maintain a great Defense without Revis. It's like his pride will be put to the test because he'll wanna prove to everyone - as well as stick it to Revis - that HIS Defense can still be successful. All that motivation for Rex? I seriously wonder what he'll conjure.
Cool post. I hadn't even considered this situation from Rex's competitive PoV. He's had top 10 defenses every where he's had a hand in the team's defensive direction. Instead of 1 great member of a secondary and whoever was playing SS, we now have 4/5 solid players back there barring any injuries...
Everyone is over playing Mevis's importance. Without Mevis we will still have the number one ranked defense in the league. With Mevis we have a more dominant defense. Either way our defense isn't going to be the problem. If the offense can deliver a solid output we'll be fine without Mevis. FUCK Mevis and FUCK the horse he rode in on too!
Not so sure about it being a #1 defense without, but its certainly still a top 5, at worst a top 10. And yes, the biggest influence on whether this is another 9-7 team, or takes the next step, is Sanchez.
The Jets do not have the top ranked defense in the league without Revis. Only on your Madden franchise.
We will know if we have the top ranked Defense in the league by week 5. Revis is going to rot on the f*cking couch if we do!!!
