This is the most logical post of the day. he is property of the NYJ for the next 3 years so the jets have zero incentive to take anything less than what he is worth on the open market. and unlike VJAX, who is in the last year of his deal and can hold out to become a free agent, revis cant, which is why they havent been vocal about the threat. hes gonna sign. hes gonna play. will he miss a game or two? maybe. but the bottom line is the next jersey he wears is hunter green and white. end of story
you can't deflect the fact that the primary defense to your position was an extreme scenario where the only thing available was a 4th round pick, and any argument dependent on extremes is illogical. that has nothing to do with reading comprehension. I comprehended your post quite well, hence why I can see how illogical it is.
Threat? Which threat? I can't bother to dig up 200 pages, but I haven't heard any threat or any trade request. I think Revis wants to be a Jet, just not at the price we are offering.
To be honest, I don't think Revis gives a shit what team he plays for. It's pretty obvious that he wants to get paid. Not saying that that's a bad thing or anything, but I think this whole "Revis wants to be a Jet for life" assertion is not as strong as people think.
He doesn't care about the Jets. He cares about himself and how much money he's going to get paid. If he holds out into the regular season he'll be sitting on his couch rooting for the Jets to lose so has a better chance to collect the ransom he's demanding.
by threat i mean jackson and S&F have been very vocal about holding out the whole year, where as with revis, none of them are actually saying that.
Frankly, I like Revis as a person and a player. I can't hate on him for doing what he thinks is right.... until the season starts. If leaves his teammates out to dry when it counts, well, I can't stomach that.
That wasn't by any means the primary defense to my position, so yeah, you didn't comprehend my post very well. The primary defense to my position was that hoping the Jets let him rot is a rational stance to take assuming that there is no reasonable trade offer out there. The example of the 4th rounder was purposefully extreme for that reason. What is reasonable is a whole other debate.
you don't even realize your own contradiction. your only defense to letting him rot is based on there not being a reasonable offer for him, thus it is your primary defense because it is the only one you offered. you then back that up by contriving an unreasonable scenario that there wouldn't be a better offer than a 4th round to defend it, and then claim that unreasonable scenario is in fact rational. it isn't, because it is an extreme, thus illogical, and a rational argument can't be illogical.
Here, this will suit someone with your thought process better: If there is not a reasonable offer on the table for Revis when he is put on the block, I don't see it as an irrational stance to hope the Jets let him rot rather than take noticeably less than what his trade value should be. The point at which the scales tip in favor of making a trade will be different for many people, but the willingness to hold Revis if an offer that doesn't meet your definition of reasonable is not an irrational stance to take.
I would honestly be surprised if Revis plays this year. Judging by how this has gone so far which has been terrible by both sides I do not see him lining up in a Jets uniform this year. They both need to cave to eachother Jets give him the guaranteed money and Revis needs to lower his price, thats the only way this will ever get done. Im a lil worried what if the jets give him what he wants then this year he holds every wr atleast under 40 yards and no tds. Does he hold out again next year and then wants part ownership in the team?
unless mevi$ decides to be reasonable, he will hold out the entire season. The jets are not cutting him a huge check as a signing bonus. just look at the moves they are making, all with the bottom line in mind. D-brick and Mangold -no huge upfront money. cutting coles, waiting until after game 1 to sign thomas, cutting dearth. These are all cost-saving moves, I think they are serious in their stance on mevi$ and will not budge. The season will depend on sanchez (yikes!!)
This has gotten so ugly. Say Revis mans up, and shows up...dont you guys think there may be some big time damage in the locker room/owners/coaches?
Let's say he does come back. If the Jets win and Revis is playing lights out...there will not be one word uttered by any coach, team official or player. BUT, if he comes back and Jets lose...and have zero secondary chemistry and get lit up...oh hell yeah...it will be on. Count on that.
I don't see how there could be a negative if Revis comes back. The idea of Revis alone vs. a #1 and Cromartie with safety help vs. #2's sounds too great to worry about Revis' hold out. If he is back and the Revis of old, NO ONE will be upset with him anymore.
I think people make too much of "damage" to the the locker room. Yes everyone wants him there practicing with him, but if they were in his position they would try and get as much as they could also. SO I dont think the players will have an issue as long as he is back by the first game. If it takes losing some games before Revis is back then you may see some unrest in the locker room.
I lived in Chester for a wee bit of time... We used to go to parties in Goshen, knew some kids from Burke.
