That's below the poverty line, you may have done so but you must have been getting government cheese.

Somehow I think you're just going to odd extremes to prove a pointless point.

Where did you read the escrow part? That is a first and I doubt it'd pass through as a legal binding contact in the NFL.

    Do you have the link?

Wow. Just read that block of distortion from Br4dw4y5ux. He got a little testy there because he was wrong earlier in the thread. He overlooked four guys. I presented facts and he decided to dance around them with an attitude. Nice.

There would have been nothing wrong with him writing something like, "You know what? I did forget about some players. I'm sorry. You got me there.
That said, I still don't think those cornerbacks made much of a difference and I still rate cornerbacks as maybe the least important players on a football field."

I read some more recent then this but Lombardi did write about it a little and his point was that any future money guaranteed for skill and injury has to be put in escrow. If it's for skill or injury it doesn't have to go into escrow. I'm assuming his agents want the money in escrow regardless.

Here is some of the article:

    Things I know ...

» According to people close to Darrelle Revis, the differences with the Jets aren't personal but strictly business. (How can I write my first NFL.com column without mentioning a Godfather line?) The issue is the guaranteed money and signing bonus. The Jets say they're willing to make a long-term commitment to Revis, but have yet to offer a serious signing bonus.

» Bears general manager Jerry Angelo and director of player personnel Tim Ruskell spent time in Chicago meeting with Unga recently and appear very interested in drafting the running back.

» The Eagles are very excited about how quarterback Kevin Kolb played this offseason, handling the team and running the offense.

» The Colts and Peyton Manning have not even begun talks on a new contract. This might happen soon, but as of now, there has been no dialogue.

» In any contract when a team guarantees future money in the form of skill (performance) and injury, they're required by league rules to fund the amount in an NFL escrow account at that time. Most teams with cash flow problems dance around this issue by using dated bonuses and only designate either a skill or injury guarantee -- but never both. That way a team can name a date in the future and keep the money on hand as opposed to putting it in an account. Remember, like most businesses, most NFL teams rely on cash flow.

That's why there's some confusion over the amount of the actual guarantee in D'Brickashaw Ferguson's new deal. The Jets want to give the money to Ferguson, but they cannot in the form of a large signing bonus -- which would hurt their cash flow -- so they use this creative measure.

» The Ferguson deal won't impact the contract talks of fellow Jet center Nick Mangold or Patriots guard Logan Mankins. Left tackles are a premium and are paid at a premium level, but their deals don't impact guards or centers.

For those scoring at home, Darrelle Revis' fine total for his 28-day holdout is up to $462,644. And counting.

I don't buy that for a second. Just the Jets playing to the media. Total compensation on a deal this size will have a lot of fluff to make the agents look good. At the end of the day the player wants to know how much money he will make in the first three seasons.

I know what you guys are saying, but I'm willing to bet that there was guaranteed money offered in the 10/120 contract, the thing is, it wasn't "fully guaranteed" as a signing bonus.

How ironic is it that the two biggest holdouts this season is from players who have the same agent.

Obviously this agent isn't dumb either. Its certaintly starting to look like the Jets WONT pay revis. The agents might end up giving in. More money is better than no money.

So they guarantee money for Brick and Mangold but not Revis? That makes no sense.

Just heard on Total Access that Revis is "digging his heels in and had headed home to Alquippa, PA." They also say that he is working out at a local HS with a personal trainer.

Right. However much it is the Jets will only guarantee it for skill or injury. F&S want the Jets to pay out a huge bonus this year since it's the only way for the money to be 100% guaranteed.

    But the Jets are saying:

    1) You've got three years left on your contract, why should I give you a check of $25 million?

    2) If Brick and Mangold can do it, so can you.

    3) If we give you a large signing bonus, what kind of assurances do we have that you won't hold out again in 3 years?

    4) We don't know if the 2011 will exist and we sure aren't going to give you $25 million to hang out with GeigerGeiger.

    5) What kind of ramifications will a new CBA have on a large signing bonus this season?

I believe that this is what's killing the deal. It's not 160 vs 120, it's getting paid in August of 2010 versus an undetermined date.

As far as I know, Mangold and Brick didn't have "fully guaranteed" money either. It was guaranteed against injury for Mangold and skill for Brick. Revis wants all his money as a signing bonus, not guaranteed against injury or skill.

They have not guaranteed any money for Brick or Mangold

Brick's contract is guaranteed for skill and he will have to take our insurance for injury.

Mangold's is guaranteed for injury and not skill.

This. And why give a large signing bonus when he's under contract for 3 more seasons?

It's not ironic at all. It's actually exactly what you'd expect.

I think this post got passed over. That's not a good sign, but I still maintain the most likely scenario is that he's back by next Tuesday.

EDIT: Actually, I think that's a misquote from what we've been reading. There was that article that he's been working out at his HS for quite some time. I don't think it's a recent development that he had a meeting with the Jets and then took off.
