Of course Johnson wants to meet with Revis. 60 year old billionaire and titan of industry one on one with a 25 year old jock; how do you think that negotiation session goes?

It's probably a pr stunt because no competent agent would let the meeting happen. Woody would be seriously pumped if he gets the meeting. If nothing else there's a good chance he susses out Revis's actual willingness to hold out for a year.

If he don't show show up, thats his decision and we move on w/o him. Best of luck not playing and not getting paid darelle.

So this whole 16k a day, that extends into the season right?

So if he misses the whole season, wouldn't he be fined a total of $2.4M?

Something like that, but I think those fines usually get waived as part of any new contract.

That would be pretty funny tho, he holds out the whole season. Loses all the money hes made from the last 2 seasons. Then the NFL gets locked out and he has no money, and probably would go bankrupt cuz he probably has some huge house.

He can always auction off the sign Bloomberg had made for him (a week too early), or some of those ridiculous Urkel clothes he likes to wear. Plenty of fools in the NFL would pay top dollar for those threads.

I'm hoping it has to stay confidential because numbers were being discussed.

this is the kind of shit we need to hear. keep talking, and stop opening your mouths to the public about what you guys are saying to each other..

it's a TINY step, but a step foward in my opinion.

The fact that they're talking is a good sign, but let's not pretend like they haven't been talking at all. Both sides need to compromise if there is a deal to be done.

I think it's basically a compromise that involves guaranteed money.

Before the "3 offers" right at the start of training camp, I read that they haven't talked since mini-camp/OTAs.

If any deal gets done it will be a short term fix.

The Jets can barely guarantee anything, due to the reallocation RULE.

It would have to come from a signing bonus, but that's where this thing goes in circles.

Can he be trusted with a large signing bonus? He could just holdout again.

I never said he guarantees an SB victory. I said the Jets have a better chance of getting to the SB with him than without him, and THAT is his leverage.

And the question is not how much he hurts himself by sitting out. Once he sits out, if he does, we will see how much that hurts the Jets. Again, that is his leverage.

Look at it this way -

Mangold is a good soldier. He's shown up at camp. He doesn't complain.

What have the Jets done with his contract? Nada.

My understanding of the situation from reading news reports follows:

    1) By not showing up for TC on day one this year he has voided a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to void the last two years of his contract at the end of this season making him a free agent. The team would have retained the right to retain him for guaranteed salaries of $5M in 2011 and $15M in 2012. He also owes $16k per missed TC day.

    2) Same as #1.

    3) If he reports after week 10, he will not accrue a season and will still be a three year vet next year. I believe he would forfeit a 1/16 of his $1m for each missed game on top of the fines from missing TC. He would then be in his 5th year of his contract next year and subject to the terms of that year. The terms of the contract would, supposedly, make his salary for 2011 $5M with no guarantee for any of it or 2012. His 2012 salary would be $15M with no guarantee.

    4) No year accrued, I believe next year would still be the 4th year of his contract.

I think the Jets are going to give in. At the end of the day I feel we are going to have to anyway. So obviously we would rather have Revis now then right before our first game.

Its gunna suck tho cuz ur cap is going to be messed up but whatev

Just to add to this, for Revis to get $15 million in 2012, he would have to reach certain incentives. One of these, I believe, is to make the Pro Bowl (I'm not sure if it's for 2010 or 2011, or both).

That shouldn't be too hard for the best cornerback in football, now should it?
