I think they made the CB moves because Manning ripped them a new asshole and nothing to do with Revis. They never expected a holdout. Why should they? They had a contract with three years left. They wanted to give him a raise because he deserved it, nothing more. That was their position then and it still is. Everything else is on him. Other than that the Jets feel he can rot for all they care. When Johnson says he doesn't think he will play for the JEts this entire year he isn't posturing. He writes the checks and he knows how high he will go. He sincerely believes Revis won't accept that.

Yep, agreed. The way I see it is that this league is now dominated by passing teams and to get to the next step and be better than the top passing offenses, you have to up the anti, in our case depth in secondary, quality depth. Or we get what we saw in that championship game.
I wonder what the odds are on a Colts - Jets championship rematch?

The Jets FO did want to reward Revis, as soon as the end of the Colts game, but they didn't plan for was how much the Revis PLC thought they were/are worth.

I have insider information that Darrelle Revis will be in uniform for the Redskins-Jets preseason game. The bad news is the insider information is soxxx.

Well I concur that Tanny was planning ahead with the Wilson pick

To bad the Revis hold out happen quicker then even the NYJ brain trust thought as Wilson would surely have improved the talent in the DBF when needed

I am sorry I think you go awry however when you say that Coleman & Lowry are "qualified" They are bodies plain & simple to fill out a lineup. If you have any doubts on this score just go back to the AFCG you referred to & see how easily PM sliced & diced the 2 of them

Lowery was mainly matched up against Pierre Garcon after the first quarter which was a huge mismatch. Coleman would have been mismatched against just about anybody. The guy I'm thinking can handle the nickel is Lowery and Cole is the prospect at the dime. Coleman will be a disaster wherever he lines up because he's not big enough to handle the big guys, not physical enough to handle the physical guys, not fast enough to handle the fast guys, not quick enough to handle the quick guys and he doesn't have an instinct for where the play is going. Basically he's just not an NFL cornerback and I can't figure out why he's in the mix. He's a walking mismatch.

And the even worse news is that it will be a Redskins uniform.

Just two thoughts that I don't know if this long thread has covered, and a quick comment

The first concerns the current labor issues facing the NFL and how it might be affecting this whole Revis situation. We know that the ownership in the NFL is looking for relief from the players and there union to the tune of 20% ,if I read correctly. Woody has become a important voice within that ownership clan and a powerful one as well, with the Jets being the second half of a flagship franchise here in New York. To give into Revis's over the top contract demands, I think, would really weaken him in the eyes of his fellow owners. Which , makes me wonder, even if things did go poorly for the team this season, would Woody really fold and pay this outrageous contract demand. Somehow I think Woody deems it more important to remain empowered to his fellow owners and will hold the line and not meet this demand no matter what.

The second concerns Revis's return, should that happen by say the third or forth game into the season . While undoubtedly the top player at his position, having been away the whole of TC and the first quarter of the season will he really be ready to play at full speed. An will he then start to look human and suddenly not worth what he has been asking all along. Will not the questions then start about how long it will take him to get back into form or was he really that good in the first place.

To me the people who are advising this young man have done him a great disservice by not thinking thru this whole process and just how poorly they have went about this.

This hold out could not be happening at a worst time, the demands could not be more over the top, especially considering today's economic situation for the average fan. This player has been taken from one of the most loved and respected players in his short time in the NFL, by his fans. To a greedy selfish me first player, who with this hold out, tells his teammates that him getting his money is more important then them getting a championship.

An if it is all for not, then I hope that his "people" lose every client they have and never get another one for they are nothing short of total idiots....

Sometimes a coach just likes a guy for some reason.

    Remember Parcells, Otis Smith ?

Poor Otis got toasted more than a new Bridegroom.

Otis Smith is a bad example though, because he could play cornerback very well. Well enough to be a starter at age 36 on the 2001 Patriots Super Bowl winner.

Drew Coleman just can't play cornerback.

Well if U put any stock into pre season FB then Coles is also just another warm body taking up a roster slot based on what he did in the NYG game.

saints beat manning without revis, so it's not impossible.

without revis we give up 7-10 pts/game.

but with 2nd yr sanchez handing off to 2nd yr greene and throwing to 2nd yr edwards, holmes and LT we add 7-10 pts a game.

cromartie, wilson, and the new DB tanny brings in as #3 are the only wild cards.

    i'll like our chances.

C'mon guys...Revis agents are the only ones to blame.

Tanny got them to go Six years, and gave Mevi$ more money than the draft slot warranted.

There are two components to getting the big payday.

    Playing Great.

    PAYING YOUR DUES.

Mevi$ did the first, but is only half way to the second, and now expects to be paid like a Free Agent.

The JETS are OFFERING HIM A MERIT RAISE.
    He has two choices.

    Take it.

    Don't play (Retire).

The F.O. has no business even pursuing him at this point.

They own his rights for three playing years.

    Mr. Mevi$...Boo f*ng Hoo.

Cool, but I'd like to see this team win a superbowl . Sanchez is highly unlikely to bring us there , so a shutdown pass d would help .

Are you fucking kidding me? Sanchez can do plenty to get us to a SB. did you sleep through January?
