You want Revis signed? I can get Revis signed, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get Revis signed by 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon... with nail polish.
I would let my girlfriend do unthinkable things to revis if it means he would be signed tommorow. Like shit that makes brazilian porn look like HBO Afternight shit. SIGN THE MAN
Unproven rookies got about $50 mil guaranteed in their $70+ mil contracts. The way Revis is acting and wanting to be the highest paid defender, I doubt if he settles for little over $40 mil in guaranteed. I hope I'm wrong and we guarantee him $30 mil, but my gut feeling is that Revis will want a massive amount guaranteed money ($50+) with a $120 mil contract. Either that, or a $30 mil guarantee with his proposed $160 mil. I had a very very long discussion with a few people on this board about what Revis will want if he ever became a free agent. I had estimated a $100 mil contract over 6 years in 2013 as a FA. As it stands, he is asking for 10 years $160 mil contract (another 7 years on top of his current deal for about another $140 mil). No one agreed with me. Imagine if he was a FA AND in 2013 (every year the contracts keep inflating at a much higher rate than inflation), what he would be asking knowing he wants $16 mil a year now even while he is under contract. Maybe unreasonable, but I'm merely stating what he would have asked for and someone out there would budge.
Let's be honest here. I'm fairly certain that only ONE rookie has received $50 million in guarantees, and that's Sam Bradford. The highest guarantees across the board have consistently been awarded to QBs, as well, with Haynesworth as the primary exception. Let's not act like it's a fixed and broad precedent. Having said that, I'd assume he asks for a Haynesworth type guarantee in the range of $40 million. He'll likely receive it, too, provided he comes down to the 10 year deal the Jets are offering. Nnamdi received $28.5 million in guarantees, Nate Clements $22 million. The compromise the Jets should be selling is that they'll give Revis the highest amount of guaranteed money at his position, even the highest amount on defense if they have to. Throw $42 million in guarantees with a payback clause if he fails to complete his contract for non-injury, player initiated purposes. This idea, however, that we should examine what he'd be looking for 3 years, and judging his demands on that, is absurd. His basic, yearly contract numbers should be determined by real market value at his position, not by some projection of what those numbers will mean mid-contract, nor by the anomaly of the Asomugha deal.
Also, listening to PMS today and they had Brian Baldinger on. They asked him about Revis. His response? He feels Revis is the best player in the NFL, and that his love of the game will outweigh his contract demands and he'll be back in the fold soon, even if it means playing on his current contract. Now, I think Baldinger is a great analyst but...best player in the game? Play on his current contract? Uh... Later, on the JT the Brick show, we had the lovely "that team that rents Giants Stadium for 3 hours every other week" take. What a douche.
The top 5 picks got $34+ millions in guaranteed money each. All combined, they received over $200 mils in guaranteed, averaging over $40 mil on about a 5.7 year average contract. Thats an average of about $7 mil guaranteed per year for players that haven't played a down in the NFL and are unproven. Sure, the potential is there. In Revis' case, we are working on a 10 year contract that will yield about twice as much. I would not be surprised at $50 mil gaurantee, depending on the total contract. They guy has been stubborn about being the highest paid corner, Im sure he'll demand guarantees accordingly. He won't get it both ways. It'll be one way or the other. Willis received $29 mils in guaranteed on a 5 years $50 mil contact extension. Revis is asking for a 10 years $120+ mil contract.
Not to change the subject, but........... Will this be the longest thread in GG history by the time Revis is all said and done. I now come back and check this every 3 days jjst to see the post count,,,,,,,WOW 203 pages.......
And that's why he isn't signed..he can ask for whatever he wants..he will get whatever the Jets want to give him.
They are not going to throw those kinds of guarantees (which have to be up front signing bonuses to him) when they don't know if there will even be games next year..it won't happen. Why do you think Tannenbaum looks and acts so frustrated? It just won't happen.
If you organise the threads by count then this is already by some considerable distance the longest thread (unless there were other much earlier ones that got deleted). It has about twice as many replies as the next highest (the Brett Favre thread).
Gotta love this. It deserves it's own thread for the title alone but I'll stick it in here for now. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...18/2010-08-18_cromartie_cornering_market.html "Revis Island may be closed for business these days, but Al-Cro-Traz is fast becoming a tourist attraction."
