you mean to say "they're" , not "there". I think I was in 5th grade when I learned the difference between They're, There and Their. Way to go, smart guy.
Then it's a great trade, Revis loses a ton of leverage, the Jets probably have a great defensive season. Not very likely though.
no i believe it was 1, 5, 15 mil... they could buy back the last 2 years at 20 mil over 2 years not 20 mil per season... if that was the case he wouldnt be bitching because he would be the highest paid corner... a little common sense please
I'm not saying pay him everything he wants. I jsut saying that they are highly under rating his presence on our defense. Do I thnk we still have a very good D without Revis? Yes. With him would we be better? Much, much etter with out a doubt. Do I think we should pay him 15+ mill a year? Probly not, depending on the outcome of the next CBA and where the cap is.
I'll type slower for you. Before he held out he was owed $1 million this year and then the Jets could buy back next year for $5 million and the last year for $15 million. In your scenario he makes $55 million for 3 years which is even $10 million above Aso's contract which would be ridulous. That is a $34 million bump you want to give him for adding no years to the contract. It make absolutely no sense at all so please stop.
You are selectively taking my post out of context. I am not saying the Jets shouldn't pay Mevi$. I am saying the Jets shouldn't be basing there salary offer on the contract some senile has-been gave Aso. If you give Mevi$ $16 million now, you kill any leverage you have with any player on the team and you bust the cap. Give him some up front $$$ and help him out this year. But it is a two-way street. If Mevi$ wants $16 million, send him to Oakland or Detroit and he can play for perennial 4-12 teams. If playing football and collecting Super Bowl rings are important to Mevi$, then he will need to take a bit less to play on a contender.
1. Ricky Williams is 33 years old. Ronnie Brown is a little overrated. He couldn't even reach 1000 yards when he did play 16 games. He is good, but overrated by the Dolphins. If he had played 16 games last year, he would have ended up with 1152 yards at the pace he was going at. Good, but nothing like being " you don't want any of that". 2. Lousaka Polite...If one hit by a FB on an LB thats making a play on the HB makes you great, then Lousaka is great. 3. Top 3 WR? Maybe a top 10, but I wouldn't put him above Larry, Andre, and Wayne for sure. Holmes had more yards than Brandon. 4. Bragging about BM again? So the "top 3" WR's job is to block? 5. Bess...lets see what he can do first. 6. Again, the BM factor. I wonder if he has any affect on the special teams aswell as the D? 7. I'll give you this one. Long is pretty good and does play a very important position. 8. Sounds like a gay porno. 9. Clowney averaged 26 YPC in 2008. Didn't make him a beast the following year. Thats right...he only had one catch...and Hartline had 31 catches. And for the record, he averaged 16.3, not 17. 10. Who is the "unquestioned best player" you speak of? What happened to your "Wildcat" the second time around? Oh yeah, thats right, we shut em down....for good. 11. Every sports fan says that about their team. Jets have a diverse offense and the players "fit the scheme beautifully". Wow... 12. Do you have a valid point that doesn't include BM in it? Revis will take care of him when he arrives.
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/1058/clowney-pleads-for-revis-return New York Jets WR David Clowney reached out to Darrelle Revis, via Twitter, imploring his disgruntled teammate to report to camp. Here is Clowney's tweet: "Homeboy Come on back 2 practice so we can win this Super Bowl I'll hook you up with half my check Not much but itll hold U down 4 now." Clowney is right about one thing: It's not much. The backup receiver is due to make $545,000 this season. Some perspective: If the Jets meet Revis' asking price ($16.5 million per year), which they won't, it would translate to $970,000 per game. It's going to take a lot more dough from Clowney to make his wish come true.
I did factor that in my original post and you choose to disregard that. I think the Jets should sign him long-term for about $12 million a season. I don't think the Jets should base their salary structure on what the crypt keeper does out in Oakland in signing Aso to $16 million a year. IF they do that, they kill the entire salary structure for the team and you won't have to worry about the Jets getting to a Super Bowl any time soon. You will be stuck with a 9 or 10 win team with a $16 million CB.
that makes me think he'll play the season. i just can't see the best defensive player sitting out all 16 games. Its retarded. I know he risks injury if he plays, but you're on your way to the HOF - why fuck that up?
I am amused at how a few of the more irrational Revis fans lacking eloquence in this thread think that the team hasn't already found ways to improve over last season without Revis. As if the only other cornerbacks on the roster were three clones of Drew Coleman. As if Sanchez hasn't become more proficient with the offense this offseason. As if "shit happens" isn't valid anymore if Revis was signed. I'm not saying Revis isn't important, but he's not negotiating with a team run by Al Davis, and his representation is not doing him any favors considering they all have a track record of holding out and making life difficult for owners. In this case, they're also blatantly disregarding the ramifications of the expiring CBA on the team's future budgeting needs. More importantly, who keeps feeding the Fins troll and continuing to enable him to post his off-topic crap in this thread?
having the players beg for him to come back isnt good... they should ignore him and focus on winning the super bowl without him.
This thread has way too many posts already without you guys taking a Jets-Dolphins cat fight in here. Take it to another thread or make a new one if you want to argue Jets-Dolphins.
Don't be stupid. Just because Revis produced Stats on 91 plays doesn't mean those are the only times he affected a play. How about the times a QB looks his way to see a blanketed WR and had to throw one out of bounds, or got sacked. The Center argument is weak too. Yes he calls the protections, but saying he handles the ball on every play-- come on. Even the worst Center in the league can snap the ball into his QB's hands safely 99.9% of the time. That is expected. What Revis does by holding the leagues best WR to under 50 yards per game every week is not expected.
