I never liked hiring shottenheimer because he is a shottenheimer. No problem firing the guy.

That said the O he put together in 06 was outright brilliant. That team sucked personal wise and we schemed our way to the playoffs.

The guy has been here 4 years had a QB competition every year. Had Favre thrown at him after TC, has a rookie QB this year who was in a competition for a good part of TC.

We lost our number 1 weapon on O who also was the guy who got the screen and dump off passes. Our no. 1 WR has a hamstring pull and is clearly not at the top of his game. Our No. 2 wr was traded part way into the season.

Shotty may well suck but he proved in 06 that he was pretty smart. Rex is clearly over his head as a HC but I still believe in him getting better and he has gotten better although he clearly was part of the problem last week.

Shotty has had 4 different QB's 4 straight years with 4 QB competitions. Not easy by any means.

idk the offense still has a manginiesque "game plan specific"feel to it.the best offenses for rex's d is one that runs the same 20 plays with confidence that it will succeed.especially with a rook qb.like the giants s.b. run offense.everyone knew what to stop and noone could do it.we have the personnell to be a team like that right now.

Do you think scoring 22 points or more in less than have the games is good? I guarantee that if you looked at all of the teams that have at least 10 wins that they are scoring at least 22 points in more than 6 of the 14 games.

You said it yourself - the "O" is scoring enough points to win most weeks with a defense like we have - ie. the #1 scoring D in the league (allowing about 12.25 points on average). If this defense were average (~20 points per game) the Jets wouldn't be in nearly all of the games this season.

I never said our offense was great but it's been good enough to win most games w/ and if it was all about the O and the QB we'd be 11-3 right now.

Our O has scored 275 points in 14 games, an average of 19.6 PPG

Last year everyone THOUGHT our O was great but they scored 363 points in 16 games for an average of 22.7. We also didn't have leon for most of this year and leon was setting up drives w/ great KRs last year which we haven't gotten this year.

I think losing a couple of PPG w/ a rookie QB was to be expected, Flacco and Ryan are the exceptions not the norm.

I am pissed w/ lost so many close, winnable games that will likely keep us out of postseason but I'm happy where we are at going forward.

Do you think the #1 defense and better field position have something to do with only loosing 3 ppg?

I don't know that we have had better overall field position, remember last year wehad much better STs and they were setting our O up in great spots all the time.

On average, the st's this year are 0.5 yards per KO return worse and 2 yds per Punt return worse. I don't know what our average field position is, but I would think it would be much better than last year just based on yards the D allows.

I don't know what the average FP was but we haven't had the big retuirns for scores or putting us deep in opps territory like we had last year.
