I think the Jets will take Sewell, and keep Darnold. That is also what I am hoping for. My opinion.

I HAVE to root for a QB at #2, lest I not see any posts from you and hear through the grapevine that you suffered a stroke or something........:D

LOL No, I wouldn't have a stroke. More than likely, I'd simply walk away from 55 years of being a Jets fan.

You wouldn't have to though. Let's just say the Jets do draft Sewell. They decide to build around Sam. (I still say they won't and a fresh start is needed for both sides) If Sam fails in 2021, you simply move on from him in 2022. You waste a season, but could build a strong nucleus in the process. On the other hand, Sam could succeed with a new Head Coach. Then we would really be in business. So I wouldn't walk away if they use the #2 pick on someone besides a QB. We just survived 2 years of Adam Gase! Hang on a little longer! :D

The problem is that you can't just simply move on from Sam in 2022. You need to move on to someone. And there is a likely scenario of us winning more games next year, not getting a top pick, and not being in position to draft anywhere near Fields' quality. To be quite frank I don't think there is Fields quality in the next year's draft at all. So, what do you do then? Get some journeyman, like Fitz, Cam or outcast somewhere for huge $ (Wentz) and hope it works? No, this is not the way to move forward. This will waste a lot more than a season. It will be a multi year process again, and guy like Q and Becton will be up for big salary. Then what, we trade them again like Leonard and Adams, because we are not good enough without a top QB?

I know we failed with Sanchez and Sam, but we failed as well all the other QBs. Sam had his opportunity. This time we have a better shot with Fields being someone with even higher QB profile we ever drafted, including Mark and Sam. Someone who is not a one season QB, but who was top notch since high school, won all but 1 game in College, stepped up big at big stage, faced top competition, and has incredible physical tools and athleticism. Let's take that shot, and let the chips fall where they may.

But if BOTH JoeD and the new HC are in agreement that neither Fields or Wilson are worthy of the #2 pick....even a top 10 pick or 1st Round pick.....again, I don't THINK this happens....but what would you have them do ?

If they called you the night before the draft...and said "Hey, NCJ....we think these guys are both border-line starters and the medicals on Wilson are troubling" -- would you STILL want them to draft one of them ?

If they're in agreement that neither Fields nor Wilson are worthy of the #2 pick, then more than likely imo, neither are the right man for the job imo. If they like Fields and want him, they can't worry about "value." IMO they'll never get him if they trade down. If they are fine with Wilson at #4 or #5, then trade down and take him. If they don't like either, but like Lance, then trade a little ahead of where they think he'll go and take him, but they'd better not miss. If they don't take one of those 3, I'm done. I won't trust that they'll be able to get a QB in 2022 or 2023, or even if they do, that he'll be the right one. More than likely, I'll lose all trust and confidence in JD and will think there is no hope for the future. With that being the case, why stick around? Life's too short.

My patience is at an end. They get it right, or I'm done. Draft Sewell and I'm done. Don't draft a QB and I'm done. It's that simple.

I'll either stop watching football altogether or root for GB until Rodgers retires and then stop watching football.

OK....but just saying...what if you throw up your hands in disgust in 3+ months.....and then Darnold immediately has his QB rating jump 20-25 points ala Tannehill right off the bat in September and the Jets are 4-0 ?

Not saying it is likely just askin'......:D

If that day comes, I'll put my head between my legs and kiss my ass goodbye, because I know hell will have frozen over! ;):p:eek: LOL Seriously, I'd have to make the decision then but more than likely, once I walk away, that will be it. There will be no turning back.

Either that or one of Teddy's leashes......:D

Yeah, I agree and have said all that. Just saying there is still a path to success if they go the other route and draft Sewell or another non-QB at #2. You are right about drafting a QB though. I don't think that would be an option in 2022 because hopefully the Jets have a worse pick and you'd be entering "Win Now" mode so you wouldn't want a rookie QB. All of this adds up to drafting Fields or Wilson, not to mention how much less money they'd cost compared to Sam.

Only reason I'd keep Sam around is for him to shield our new rookie for the first few games and hopefully if he can elevate his game from sub-Haskins/Lock/Jones/Mullens to nearer the middle of the pack then he might actually go for more than a fourth.

Everything hangs on how Fields fairs against Alabama for me but the likely scenario is Alabama wins and Fields plays average so we don't risk him and trade the 2nd pick
If 49ers offer enough in a trade then take it and get the tight end Pitts with the 12th pick he looks an absolute beast
Chances are he might not be there then get a No1 WR
But if Fields impresses again on Tuesday then I think we take him at 2

I don't think SanFran picks high enough this year or has enough draft picks in 2021 and 2022 to make a deal for us.

If we are going to trade down....I don't see us moving much below 5,6, or 7...maybe in a few months it is clearer with new GMs/coaches and who is keeping their existing QB (also FA and new contracts)....we can NOT trade to a team that might take a QB we want who drops a few from the #2 spot.

SanFran picks 12th.....they'd have to move a bunch up for me. I look at Cincy, Philly, Detroit, and Denver (Carolina maybe ?) as OK to trade down with IF we are doing that. I do not want to trade into the double-digits.

True they don't seem to have enough at the moment but just hypothetically thinking they get enough together and are set on a QB then Pitts would be in play for me but it would take a he'll of alot to swap 2 for 12
The only way I see anyone giving up massive amount of picks for our 2nd is if Fields produces in which case we would probably pick him anyway
    Easy game this GM shit

I don't think Fields has to impress again, like he did last time. If he does and wins title, then he will be in the conversation for #1 overall over Lawrence. Now, I don't think he will go #1, because it is Trevor Lawrence, but there will be a lot of talk about it, and he be will a lock for #2 to the Jets. Even if he doesn't impress though, but has a decent game, I feel he is still a lock at #2. Keep in mind, the guy is still hurt, and I am not even sure how much he was able to practice. A decent, even unspectacular game here would almost be expected under the circumstances.

The only way I see him sliding is if he puts up a stinker like against Northwestern. Then the questions about consistency will come back and we have to take another hard look. I still think I would go with him at #2, but a very bad game on the highest stage could have an impact on his draft stock of course.
