You have to be FU*KING kidding ME!!! Listen I agree that the play call was wrong and we should have went for 3. But if it weren't for Mangini we wouldn't be in the game in the first place. He has us playing like we have NEVER played before. We have a young team and had no business being in this game today. Mangini is the SOUL reason we had a chance to win today, he has the players believing they can win any game at any time.

I stopped coming to these boards due to morons like you, people who will bash the Jets and their FO no matter what goes on. Why don't you wake up and see the big picture, we were touted as the WORST team in the league and after today, I have hope for a playoff run. If Herm was leading this team we would be 0-4, why can't you morons see this???

I guarantee you if you asked the players if they were against that call 100% of them would say no, they are playing their hearts out for Mangini, if you can't see this sell you jersey, stop coming to these boards and root for the Giants. You my friend are a typical Jets fan...

Hopefully Mangini can beat the Jags next week. The Jets are usually good cheerleaders and should motivate him to destroy their entire team single handedly

i think jets fans would be all over him had they lost the game by 3 or so, they would be all of him, but you know what, you play to win, no problem at all, i dont know bout the defense but regardless with blitzes we didnt get anywhere, Shaun ellis was the only one getting to him. And the Jets can't challenge a play that happens under 2 minutes.

So you want to kill Mangini for showing some balls? If he played the game the way you wanted, the FG would have put us down 4 instead of up 3 best case. That's if Indy didn't score instead of us scoring after the onside kick. Some coaches have balls and some don't, Mangini apparently does. You apparently don't. You better get used to it because this isn't the last time he is going to change it up.

We were in that game with a chance to win because of the onside kick, a gutsy call that nobody is talking about. I would have kicked the FG but I don't hate going for it. I hated the call rolling to the short side of the field into the teeth of the D but hey sometimes it doesn't work out. Two things went wrong on that play not only did we not score, the INT put the ball on the 20 instead of the 2. The coach put us in position to win with some guts and he left 3 points on the board because he had some guts.

If you really want to break this game down, I see 3 major problems. Nugent needed a big kickoff after the score and he hit a short line drive setting the Colts up in perfect field position. Nugent has been a total liability to this team on kickoffs, playing the Colts we could have onside kicked after ever score and had a better shot at winning then letting this kid kick off.

Second problem, the timeout by Vilma to reset the D. At that point why give up a time out. Somebody make a play or let them score faster. Third, somebody has to field the Colts kickoff on the first hop.

On a side note, if Coles instead of looking to lateral runs up and in he probably scores a TD on the last play. He had blockers in front of him on every Colt player between him and the end zone.

Look. To be a contending franchise, you've got to have a good defense. There is no other way around it. What do I mean by good defense?

There is a fine line between "good" teams and "great" teams in terms of score prevention. Say, if a defense can keep the offense out of the end zone about 4 times out of 5 drives, that's equivalent to championship-level defense. (That's equivalent to 20%) Yet allowing the scoring drive once in every 4 drives just doesn't cut it. (25%) This is where the great ones transcend - as it will take one extra drive to get to the endzone, it takes that much time.

Now, let's look at Jets' defense. The colts had a total of 9 offensive drives. And this offense allowed points in 5 different drives. That is just not acceptable - even though the opposing offense was Peyton Manning, still it is not acceptable.

What's so bad is that, this defense stopped the colts only once in the second half - the opening drive. If you allow your opponents to score more than 50% of the drives they sustain, you are supposed to lose the game no matter how good the offense is.

That the Jets lost the turnover battle didn't help them either today - barring the last fumble, they were at -2. And, with two turnovers against them, they were in a position to win the game - if the defense could come up with ONE stop.

The coach can do only so much - the rest is on the players, and they have to execute, to make things happen. This defense just did not execute to the level they are expected to. (dumb penalties, missed tackles, etc etc.)

Again, I hope you can come to the understanding that it wasn't the coach's fault for not kicking.

Left points on the field?? Who says that Nuge would've made the 20 yard FG anyway? He almost missed a PAT today. Let it go, that play is not why we lost.

going for the onside kick is gutsy.. Going for the TD when you are a long two yards out instead of the sure 3 points is not smart football.

Going for the the TD was absolutely the right play, and the way the rest of the game played out I'm not sure how anyone can even think that it wasn't. The Jets defense embarassed themselves and the Jets were not going to win with FG's.

The only thing I will say is that the play action that they ran on 4th down should've come on 2nd or 3rd down, that's an absolutely terrible playcall after the D has stuffed you for no gain on 2 runs in a row, and the ball is only on the 2.

Give Mangini a break, if it wasn't for him, we would of lost 45-3

Mangini is our future, you have to give him time, remember he is a rookie head coach. With the players we have now, we shouldn't even compete with Indy, yet we had a great game. This is a win for us, who cares what the win loss record shows, this was a win, we get our respect now.

When the Colts drove down the field after that INT on 4th and 2 in the endzone, they hade the same scenario on the other side of the field. With the score tied, they decided to kick the FG. Now if they were down by a TD, chances are they go for the TD, and since we've shown we couldn't stop them, they'd probably have gotten it anyway. Then, since all we would have been able to do is tie the game on our TD after that, they'd sit on the clock and just kick a FG or score a TD at the end, not leaving us any time. Same result.

What killed us is Miller's KO TD return. I truly believe that is the play that put the nail in our coffin. We took absolutely no time off on the clock, and we left the Colts with too much time to score, but not so much that we'd have time and get the ball back with enough time to score. Starting on the 2 was also harmful. Bottom line, we need a better D, and we need to score more points earlier on offense. We can't fumble the ball away either. This is a work in progress. Let's take these lumps now and return this two fold in the playoffs, that should be our goal.

i take it you read one post, right? ive stated repeatedly that i love the way he has the team playing. that he is doing a great job. i was just shocked by the call, and i called it right then and there. i said to my friends, we're gonna lose by 3. thats the way the jets are. after thinking about it a bit more, i have to say that the DC and the defense hurt us more in that last qtr than mangini going for it on 4th down there. we blew 2 4 point leads. thats just not right. they were in a position to win. ultimately though, the 3 ponts were left on the field, and thats what we lost by. it was a huge momentum swing (as was millers 103 yd return).

god forbid anyone crticize the coach. how horrible of me! i love the way the jets are playing, and i really like the coaching staff he put in place, and mangini overall.

who are you, george w bush? implying that its "unacceptable to think" negatively about any aspect of the team....heaven forbid it.

my buddy said the same exact thing to me when i was saying "wtf why arent they kicking it". it would have been a 17 yd fg. id take my chances of nooooge hitting it over what was called. as soon as i said we should go for the fg, my boy was like, it aint a lock, he missed an ex pt in week 1. give me a break....

IIRC, mangini said in the post game int that chad had the option of pass/run when he got to the line, based on what he saw from the defense. i guess chad misread the defense, because he certainly wasnt getting what he thought he was.

how do you get that out of todays game? theres no moral victory in losing. if you lose by 100 or 1, you still lost. the fact that we should have won, and didnt makes it a bigger loss. the defense was giving those wr waaaay too much room on the second to last drive by indy. they had to be playing an over zone of some sort. they allowed the indy wide outs to get oob, and they dictated position. the last 5 min or so was def the worst the defense has played at the end of a game sofar this year.

i know, i know, its peyton future HoF'er manning....but they should have tightened up on those wr. jam them at the line at the very least.

Madden just put it well, and it's been something I've been saying throughout the day. The people that are second guessing the FG wouldn't have kicked that onside kick. So basically, Either you subtract the 7 from the onside kick, and we lost by 4, or you subtract the FG which is what happened, and we lost by 3. Either way we lost. Mangini's aggressive calling is what got us into the game in the first place. Hindsight is 20/20. If we kick the FG, and the Colts go down the field and score a TD, we've lost by 4 again even with the FG.

i just re-read that bullshit you posted, and i have to say, you really should stay away from these boards. have you ver played any kind of organized sport? anyone who has played any sport, like football you know what drives you to play is winning. sure they believe in mangini, but the players play to win first and formost.

and you are right, no player would disagree publicly with what the coach is calling at that point. unless youre jeremy shockey, you put the honus of wins and losses on yourself.

so mr blindley loyal, kindly kiss my hairy italian ass.

he gambled too much today imo. it worked more than it didnt, but at the point where they opted to not kick the fg, it was just a flat out bad call. mangini said in the press conference that the idea going into the game today was going td for td with the colts. i cant argue that point, because their offense is prolific, but at the time of the kick it was bad timing. you cant leave points on the field against indy. i know i have no proof that i called it when it happened, but i did. a few of my friends agreed, and 1 didnt. in the end, i thought they should have kicked it then, and i still believe it. there was no hindsight for me with this play. i felt this way since i saw them line the offense up at the 2 yd line.

Again, even if you think it was the right decision to kick the FG, there is no guarantee we win the game, because we don't know how things would unfold. To pin the loss on Mangini is an extreme over-reaction imo, and the posters that want to run Mangini out of town over this decision are idiots (I'm not saying you are one of these posters, but there have been a few). I've been in competitive situations, so I can empathise with Mangini on this. When you try to play safe, a lot of times it comes back to burn you. You're not going to win without a big play, and you can never make a big play if you're too scared to take a risk. If Mangini's bet pays off, he takes momentum, and he takes a good lead. It's easy for people in the media and at home to criticize, but we are simply not in the same pressure situation. When I consider all the intangibles, I like what he did. We're still trying to establish an identity, and even if we lost, WE WENT FOR THE THROAT! You can't play weak for most of the season and then hope to switch it on. Even though it resulted in a loss this time, that mentality will help IMMEASURABLY in crucial situations down the stretch, and in the playoffs when we eventually get there, maybe next year, maybe this year, who knows. That killer instinct is a lesson you can't teach through words, Mangini took an action and now has a sort of aura around him. He has balls, disagree or agree with the decision, you HAVE to agree the man has balls the size of texas. Those are the reasons for my supporting it, moreso than anything in this specific game itself.

When it even occurs to you to argue about going for it on 4th and 3, and going for it with a rookie quarterback and halfback... when you have a gripe with that despite the fact that it succeeded, then your opinion will be worth hearing. Anybody can say that they disagree with a failed play.

Personally... I think theres a point where you have to say, having already gone for it on 4th down on that drive, and having been stuffed three times at the goal line... there comes a point, for me, where youve risked enough on the drive. Take the easy points. We had already had some success stopping their offense, so the idea that at that point, you would feel like you absolutely must score touchdowns every time, is bogus. First step to beating the elite teams is not beating yourself, and that includes leaving easy points on the field. My recollection is that the 4th down conversion came in one of those situations where its a tough field goal and a pointless punt, and i never disagree with going for it on 4th when your in that sort of situation. But to me, to act like 3 points is just useless in a game like this... well i just dont get it.

thats one thing i can say that none of us has seen in the recent past. it is nice to see the team being assertive and going balls to the wall. (i know this stand completely opposite of what ive been saying, but its nice to see them have some kind of killer instinct since herm never had it).

in no way shape or form do i think he should be crucified for the call, i just thought it wasnt the right time for that sort of play. what i think, or anyone outsde of the staff thinks is irrelevant, but its my 2 cents. i did say that after thinking about it for a while (i made the topic right after the game) that the loss falls more on the defenses inability to hold 2 4 pt 4th qtr leads than him not going for the fg.
