So by your definiton of rivalry the Red Sox don't even belong on the field with the Yankees because they have 27 WS to Boston's 6. Help me out, I'm just trying to understand the logic of a Pats fan? How could something that isn't remotely close be a rivalry. Or maybe what your really saying is that it's not a rivalry because you didn't start watching the Pats until 2001. I think I got it now.
^my bad if I wrote it wrong, Pats/Jets is definitely a rivalry. One could argue a pretty one sided (not very competetive like say Pats/Colts) one though. Just like Sox/Yanks...love kickin their ass when we can..and those wins are amazing when we get them...but yeah, we got nothin' on the Yankees
Look, kicking a field goal at that point is truly "rubbing it in", in those situations, huge lead, 4th down, most teams simply run some basic play up the middle (which is normally stopped by most teams), not the case here. BB ran a basic inside trap, nothing tricky and the Jets had quit, completely quit at that point. BB wasn't running anything up............... And for anyone to bitch about BB after the entire country has had to listen to Rex all season, effin gloating about his football team should look at their own head coach first. Have fun with the 5-seed, you'll probably end up heading out to Indy for your first round road game, have fun with that
Cowherd may be the biggest blowhard alive but this one point of his is still valid. The Pats perform exceptional well after breaks and the Jets have played miserably. That's a simple observation that anyone could have made and really raises questions about the Jets ability to prepare well. Suggesting that may be because Ryan devotes more time to smak then gameplanning is natural given how often Ryan is seen on TV. I personally doubt he spends less time than necessary preparing his team, but when his mug is on TV every day making his silly declarations, it leaves the impression that he'd rather talk about how great his team is then actually teach them how to be that way. Coming off the four games NY did prior to this Pats matchup, I doubt Belichick would be on TV declaring how great his team is, and how destined for the Super Bowl it remained. Anything other than his team being in big fugging trouble if it plays that way, and intends on winning would have surprised everyone.
That became a rivalry when Epstein was hired and the Sox became a great team. Before then, I agree, Sox fans were talking out of their ass because there was no rivalry.
This is ridiculous The Jets were outplayed but the mistake Rex made was going for that 53 yard FG in the swirling wind, that was retarded. Punt and pin NE back. That being said, it was a larger mistake to get into an aerial battle with Tom Brady. Sanchez is no Brady and anyone who argues the opposite is dead wrong. The game plan should have been run LT, pound the clock and play field position. Not throw to freaking Santonio, who talked trash after every eight yard gain. Really? We can all hate Tom Brady, but that dude is super dangerous the best plan is to keep him off the field and when he is on, pinned back. Not going for 50 yard field goals and then trying to shoot it out with him. This is not the same Patriots team we smashed in week 2. He has literally six different weapons to throw to and those freaking Tight Ends are rookies. SICK! :buffaloblows:
The thing is Ryan doesn't spend any extra time in front of the camera, he just says more then the average coach. It's not he takes away time on the practice field to go do his stand up routine. He doesn't get up in front of the press and give coach speak. He hasn't made any declarations since preseason. You didn't see him after the Ravens game saying "we're the best" and you didn't see him stand up in front of the press after week 2 and say things liek see how much better we are then them. He's never done that. Ryan has always given props to the Pats and if you watched the Bengals game he went onto say they were a great team and how tough it was going to be to win this game. Belly is a smug asshole, he keeps his plays in his sock pocket for shits sake, of course he isn't going to say anything interesting. So then I guess we can use the logic that it became a rivalry when Ryan was hired in which case it's 2-2.
It became a rivalry when we hired Parcells, do not fool yourself and then took Martin. The Patriots became terrible after that and then they took Bill B. and they dominated. We took Mangini and still sucked. Rex has helped but until we win we need to talk less trash and play more football. 9-3 is still a damn good record.
Even conceding the fact that Ryan is a far more entertaining personality so his comments will be plastered all over ESPN, the fact remains that, imo, he should have taken a different tact approaching the Pats game. His team was playing very poorly and the Pats deserved more respect then "they're scared of us", "I expect we'll be in the Super Bowl", "I came here to kick ass". If a rivalry can be created in 2 years, sure. Personally, I think this rivalry thing is being concocted because the Jets are a good team this year and it makes better TV.
Totally agree on the comments about Rex. What good could possibly come from all the trash talking the week of the game. You're about to play an elite team in a primetime game in front of their home crowd. What do you have to gain by spouting off "we're coming for you", "this is gonna be a prizefight", "I came here to kick Belichick's ass". All you're doing is giving your opponent some great motivational material and putting an incredible amount of pressure on your team. Just shut up and prepare your team. As far as the rivalry thing, the records are irrelevant. This has been an intense rivalry ever since Parcells left the Pats and came to the Jets. Ever since then there has been bad blood. It heated up even more when Belichick left the Jets.
Ryan has an entertaining personality but to say that his talking took away form the preparation the Jets took for this game is nothing short of stupid. There a a million reasons why the Jets got their ass handed to them but Rex giving quotes isn't one of them. The Pats would have won like that whether it was Rex, Herm, Mangini or Groh coaching the team. I didn't say that the rivalry was created in 2 years, I'm just trying to figure what creates a rivalry in your mind? Because the Pats won a bunch in a row doesn't take away from the rivalry. Considernig the Pats were our bitches when Parcells ran the show and even Groh as bad as he was swept Belly so does that not count? Shit the jets have won like 18 of 23 games against Miami but that doesn't take away from the rivalry.
Jets - NE was a rivalry when the Jets had Al Toon and NE had Stanley Morgan. This discussion is silly.
Yeah that last drive we had started with 4 minutes left, we halted at midfield after we got the first down. At that point we no doubt could've went down for a score. Despite what outsiders think Rex is not a dickhead, he just talks about our team with confidence. He was raised better than that, he knows to not run up the score, talk is talk but doing that really will comeback to bite you in the ass. That 4th down was tasteless, it is so obvious the Pats are intimidated that's why they felt the need to do that.. Inferiority complex from being in 2nd place all year, lil twommy isn't used to that.
exactly. How can a divisional opponent not be a rivalry? Its just that the rivalry has heated up the past few years. Many rivalries have there lulls but that doesn't mean that they are gone. This will definitely be one that will be on the front burner for many seasons to come. And about the the Pats class; the Jets have been talking smack ALL SEASON long and disrespecting anyone they can, in anyway they can. Now, they feel hurt because someone smacked them down? The other teams will try and score as long as your team is trying to score. There are plenty of instances of 30 point comes back in the league. :shit:
No probably not but I don't take issue with what the OP was saying either. The Jets got punched in the mouth and acted like little bitches with skid knees. Rather then get up and fight back they just stood there and allowed Tom to be on the other side of an ass raping for once.
I really am not sure what the big deal is. These teams have been playing each other for 50 years. Over the course of that time the Jets have beaten the living crap out of the pats and vice versa. Monday the Pats beat the crap out of the Jets. There will be payback. Currently in this series the Pats have won 50 games and the Jets have won 50 games w/1 Tie. So getting all upset about 1 blow out is stupid. There have been blowouts before that have favored the Jets and blowouts before that have favored the Pats. Not a big deal. There will be payback - I will guarantee you there will be payback. Thats the way it goes in the NFL. Nothing new here. Just another game in a long history in which both teams have beaten each other the exact same amount of times. On Monday the Pats were the best team and they played a great game. But that will not necessarily be the case next game. There will be payback, and you know what they say about payback....
That's a good point, 1990 was pretty good. 42-7 Jets 93, 45-7 Jets. But back then these games didn't mean as much, Patriot fans were nowhere to be found since they didn't realize they had a NFL franchise in the NE area.
