The case against D'Brick

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by RobA, Mar 7, 2006.

  1. This whole situation gets solved if Jones moves inside to center where I think he is a great fit. That fact, combined w/ Abe's trading for an additional first rounder, makes Ferguson a great pick at 4.

Jones at Center seems like an ideal fit, but snapping the ball, and then blocking is not as easy as it sounds

i wouldnt like it, he seemed to start gelling at LT nothing superb but hes a young guy, i'd like to see him another yr before we go drafting D'Brick who is solely suit to play LT jus like jones......not that i dont think hes good i just think picking him could make Jones a waste, especially if we moved him to C and it didnt work out.

so basically im agreeing with you lol

Adrian Jones should not be moved from LT. His only weakness that I saw last season was dealing with the bullrush. While this will improve with experience and moxie it shows that he lacks strength. Strength, unfortunately, is a necessity for Center. Imagine him trying to contend with bull rushes from DT's after snapping a ball. <shudder>

Get a playmaker in the 1st round - please!

Then why can't D'Brick play RT? Bouncing Adrian Jones around the line is not the right way to develop a blocker.

the same reason Adrian Jones cant play RT

D'Brick is strong for his size but no way he becomes a premier RT and picking him to turn him into one at 4 would be idiotic

If he would "SUFFER" against the run as a LG he probably isn't doing much better as a LT...Adrian Jones is so overrated it makes me hate the man...

Let me just put it this way.

You're in a sinking rowboat with 3 holes in the bottom (LT, C, RT Get it?). You plug one of the holes with some crumpled up newspaper (Jones). That should hold for a while.

Now, the next thing you do is?:
    A. Properly seal the 2 other holes.
    B. Seal the hole that you already plugged.

Your entitled to your opinion, but I think A makes a lot more sense.

If Jones was the biggest problem on the OL I'd have no problem drafting Brick. But he's far from it, and the improvement (if any) from Jones and Brick will definitely have less impact on the team than drafting a more needed position would.

That was my point. (We're agreeing. It's weird, isn't it!)

We're better off keeping Jones at LT and drafting a RT. Drafting Brick and moving Jones back to RT is not a viable option.

Understandable, of course as we know not all O-Line spots are created equal. LT is a more important spot to fill than a C or RT. However in perfect world I agree that the other 2 holes can be filled via trading down at #4/trading Abraham. Maybe turn pick #4 into Winston Justice + a pick and turn Abraham into Nick Mangold?

Jones played fine. The guys getting QBs killed were the guards. Brandon Moore sucked last year. And the original post was right, he didnt say Couldnt, he said SHOULDNT....A QB, (or imho,) a RB (With speed) would serve us far better, and in the immediate, than a LT....

Cutler,Maroney,Bush, White all > than Ferguson.

Well since most of yall assume jones cant play tackle, he will struggle at guard , and moving him to center is a joke he has never done it before on any level. we might as well cut him:wink:

not to mention fabini is the reason both of our qbs where hurt if i remember right. it wasnt jones

  17. If there is one position on an OL where you can afford to be an average run blocker, it is at LT. Most of the time you are facing undersized speed rushers who dont do much damage at the poinbt of attack regardless.
