In a way it makes sense but then again... can someone really be SO vain as to want to come back and deal with NFL life just to pad their stats? I guess it's possible but I think legacy wise it would do more for him to take a different team to the Super Bowl, and the only two teams that could potentially fit the bill of being able to go to a Super Bowl with him AND actually need a QB are the Vikings and you could argue the Jets.
Of course - that has to be why he made his decision. There couldn't be any possibility of any other factors.
Noting the sarcasm, I think a team needs to be "tooled" to begin with before they can be declared to be "re-tooling." Given the good year-bad year flip-flops of the Jets this decade, I don't think we ever officially "tooled."
Dont forget the psl folks. Its much easier to ask you fan base for $$$$ after you went out in the off season and did every you can to make your team better. Farve would bring a very positive spin to the team just before they try and hit us up for a insane amount of money
As Jets fans we see our team as one who could be a QB away from going to the Super Bowl, but until this team takes the field together, I view us as a paper tiger from the perspective of a non-Jets fan. Success needs to be proven elsewhere before I can truly believe we are a QB away, no matter how I like the offseason moves.
I was so looking forward to eating butter pecan ice cream and watching him heave the pill; now I may be heaving butter pecan ice cream and wishing I were on the pill.
You are absolutely right...I'm not one of the people who assumes that Favre would deliver a SB win...or even an appearance. All I know is, the Jets would be a lot better and would be fun to watch...you know, like passes over 10 yards. Running lanes because the defense actually has to fear the pass. Things other teams take for granted.
The up and coming teams in this league are in the NFC right now. We might very well stink next year but the league is very mediocre and the AFC is drifting back while the NFC is on the upswing. We were in a ton of games last year with an embarrasing O and at times a putrid D. We have the makings of a very good D and Favre at least gives us a punchers chance.
I don't disagree with you, but I'm not sure the Favre or his agent perceive the same way. And I doubt Favre wants to just give some team a 'puncher's chance'. He wants another ring.
He isn't going to Dallas, Washington, Jints, NE, IND or SD. Farm boy is going to be doing panty hose commercials on Madison Avenue and loving it.
Yes - Favre saying he's not interested certainly gave me the feeling that Chad has proven something today.
You obviously have more faith in our ability to bring in a player like him than I do. I liked talking about it, but I never thought we had a snowball's chance in hell of actually pulling it off.
Just keep this in mind. And yes, I know it's a different sport and different league and different circumstances. However...Kevin Garnett said he had no interest in going to Boston last year to play for the Celtics......He ended up in Boston and won a championship. Never count it out.
I have no faith that we will get this done. I think management is desperate to hang onto their jobs and the screwed the pouch at QB and this is the fast fix that makes the most sense.
