The line does suck at run blocking but you have a young OL that is under duress because the QB has turned the fight into 11 men covering an area the size of a telephone both instead of 40 yards down the field, sideline to sideline. Great run blocking lines have an attitude but it's tough for young guys to have an attitude when it's a chinese fire drill of who to pick up on every play because every one on the D is standing in front of them. Put the OL in one on ones and tell them to fire out every play and see what happens. Maybe they still stink at run blocking, maybe, how about we find out?

Sorry, but in every year except 1 the Broncos have had a back with a minimum of 1100 yards. So that statement is not correct. Portis had 2 consecutive seasons with 1500+ yards.

This is complete bullshit! His team would still be 7-0. Brady is that good, plus they have a better Defense. This is a ridiculous statement anyway to prove a point.

Than you say this to me?

Well similarly you drastically undervalue it. This team would be winning games with a better QB. If you can not see it than I really feel sorry for you.

I do not see why you take the criticism of Chad for what they are. They are not personal. Chad is done.

Also, like I said, you want to bring up every team in the past with an ok QB that has won, I can bring up just as many teams with a great QB that has also won or teams that win the LOS but have never won a SB.

No offense Puck I like Portis and Denver has always had good backs but when he was healthy TD was a great back HOF off the charts great Jim Brown, Walter Payton great. The guy may be the greatest playoff running back of all time. He should go into the HOF ahead of Curtis. He carried the Broncos to those two SB not Elway.

Again, I did not want to get into endless circular arguments, as I am not nyjunc. TD was a great player however the Broncos have had play in the RB position that was substantial enough to propel them to the playoffs and they still had their vaunted O-line. They lost Elway and no more SB's. Fine they also lost TD and no more SB's.

However, they still have the vaunted O-line. If I over-value the QB position so much than why on gods green earth have they not gotten back to the SB with any old JAG at the QB position?

Edit: I fully realize that an answer to the difference between winning and losing is not as simple as, "you need a great QB" or "you win in the trenches!"

It is very complicated and many cases those two are interconnected. However that being said," I would rather have a great QB and build around him, than have a great O-line and get and try and find a great QB. It is infinitely easier to build a good line than the other way around. IMO.

The QB is the key guy but red75bronco has a valid football argument.

Winston, I never said it was not important as I happen to think winning in the trenches is very. However, I happen to think it is the cart before the horse argument. I really believe it is easier to build around a great QB than the other way around. If I over value QB play than so be it. If a person was to start a team from scratch, I would say a Brady or Manning type would be the first pick just about every single time. I suppose if LT (Lawrence Taylor not Ladanian) was available he might rate a sniff other than that, a QB would be the first choice each and every time.

See my edit on the post of mine you quoted.

    Riggins, 1982, 4 playoff games
    136 carries
    610 yards
    4 TDs

    Davis, 1997, 4 playoff games
    112 carries
    581 yards
    8 TDs

Those are probably the two best playoff performances in a season by RBs.

You did watch the game right?? You do know that Coles has excepted the blame for the interception. He was on a comeback route and when he planted he slipped and fell..I know Chads fault again...Wow

This is the problem with Denver. They lost Alex Gibbs shortly after the Superbowl runs and Shanahan thinks he can win without good talent in the trenches. You need an above average QB that plays solid football to win in the NFL, but you also have to control the LOS, offensively and defensively.

In my opinion it is key to have a good to great line and you can have an average QB. I just remember Cincy drafting QB after QB with the 1st pick. And they kept getting the first pick because they still lost. I think it is time for the Jets and CP to part ways, but I don't believe he is done as a starting QB. But as a Jets fan, I am very concerned with the pressure that is going to be on a 2nd year guy with 1 game experience when he has to score on the last drive of every game in order to win. This is where we have been over the last few weeks. Like I said, I hope he is the second coming of J. Elway, because he is the only one that could do that consistently.

Both are good points, but I would rather take the Pittsburgh line and running game with an average QB (Big Ben), instead of a superstar QB with no o-line. And I believe Big Ben is average for the same reasons you think Chad is, because when the game is put in his hands, over 25 pass attempts, the Steelers seem to lose more than they win.

Growing up and living in Denver, I think I hear that Davis has the most consecutive playoff games with over 100 or 150 yards, not sure which one. They demoralized teams with their running game.

I would take a kick ass defense over both of em.Almost every winning superbowl team has one

And a good defense controls the LOS and gets pressure on the QB. Whether people like it or not, the big uglies control the game. It takes a superstar like Barry S or D. Marino etc. to overcome a shortcoming of controlling the LOS.

Davis had 7 straight 100 yard games and 3 straight 150s.

    Riggins had 6 straight 100s and 3 straight 140s (185, 140, 166).

Ben may be average but unlike Chad Ben is a big time playmaker. Ben can have a game where he isn't completing a high % of passes and still bust a play that can turn a game. When you get to the playoffs and are facing two or three good teams in a row, matchups become a key and playmakers break down matchup football.

Yes. Every week one of the receivers slips and falls on a comeback route.

    See any problem with that?

    Every INT is thrown short.

But it's always someone else's fault.

    Interesting, no?

    Please.

The playcalling didn't help either, that goes on the coaching and Chad, that throw is basically our 2 min drill, it is surprising how often that thrown is thrown and picked off already this year

Absolutely. And here's something, regarding the coaching staff, that really irked me late in the game.

The offense was making their requisite mediocre attempt to try to score late, and they flash the cam over onto Shotty Jr., and the dude is grinning, almost giggling.

Umm, Brian, WTF is so funny? You're losing. Again. Clue us Jets fans in on the humor, at least maybe we can all share a laugh while dealing with this misery.

    That really pissed me off.

Anyway, our 2-minute drill sucks. It takes 5 minutes to run, and that's only if we're lucky enough to turn it into a score.

But I'm sure someone will blame the "lack of a running game" for that. Fact is, we can't throw downfield with Gimpington behind center. Doesn't make for a very good quick strike aerial attack. I don't care how much time you have to throw.
