The Jets should have beaten down the Broncos and the Raiders. Although they were tough games, we shouldn't have gotten absolutely raped by the Ravens and by the Pats twice. I'm done predicting for the year. Hunter vs. Tuck/Umenyiora/JPP is a nightmare scenario for Mark Sanchez.
I'm watching the giants/philly game as I type this. Seriously, the Jets clearly have the better team ON PAPER than any of our remaing 6 opponents. If each of our remaining games were the first game of the season, we'd be favored in all 6 games. I can easily see the Jets winning all 6 remaining games. We've laid all our eggs, and to a player they know this is it. Tebow and the Broncs? Look, it was a SHORT 3-day prep week for a banged up team that just gave it's all in a loss against the Pats and then had to fly across the country and play in really thin air. I'm not at all shocked we just couldn't pull it off. But that 3-day prep week now means a 9-day prep week for a home game against a team we just dismantled. Our total domination of the Bills 7 days from tonight will be the start of something special. Bump this in a few months.
i'll bump it right now cause i agree with you, we should not have lost to denver but the nfl did us no favors by giving us a trip to denver 96 hours after playing our division rival. it takes several days for a human's lungs to get used to the air at that elevation.
Ok, here's my reasoning. Once in the last eight years have the Ravens and the Bengals not split the season series. They're like the Jets and the Fins used to be, the records and quality of the two teams doesn't really matter: it's a dog-eat-dog divisional rivalry and neither dog is on top. The odds are excellent that the Bengals will beat the Ravens in Cincinnati later this season. The Bengals are actually a better team this season than they've been in awhile. Their offense is top half of the NFL for the first time since 2007 and they're ranked in the top 10 defensively. They have Arizona and Cleveland left on the schedule at home and they visit St Louis. They're very likely to win 10 games at this point. The Jets on the other hand have proven pretty conclusively that they can lose to just about anybody at this point. Are they likely to win 5 more games this season given what we know about them? No. Could they? Sure, but if the Bengals go 4-2 while the Jets are going 5-1 the Jets still probably miss the playoffs. More likely scenario is the Jets go 4-2 and lose two games including one they shouldn't (Miami at the end most likely but possibly Buffalo this weekend.) The last time the Jets were in this much trouble they fought back to get into a reasonable position and then promptly went out and lost 10-7 at Atlanta to get back in deep trouble (Rex Ryan: "we're not going to make the playoffs.") This year they have no wiggle room. They lose another game and they're probably at a 15% chance to make the playoffs. They lose two more and it is really all over. I look at all the permutations at this point and I think: you know if the Jets get really lucky... Then I think back to 2009, when the Jets *did* get insanely lucky down the stretch, and I think: that doesn't happen twice in a lifetime for a team. Having all the things break just right after the team has buried itself. My conclusion is that if it is going to take a Bengals collapse and a Jets hot streak to make the playoffs that the odds on that happening are really low at this point. And the schedule, with the Bengals having a 1 game lead, which is really two since they are way up in the conference standings and will win a tie, and also having 3 weak opponents left and also having two divisional games left against their hated rivals the Ravens and Steelers: they're not going to fade away for the Jets. The Jets basically have to damn near win out, while avoiding having the Bengals get hot at the same time. Nothing I have seen from this team this year says they can do that and I'm not making a leap of faith knowing that Wayne Hunter is going to be the RT and Schotty is going to be calling the plays. It's just not rational to do so.
But most of the posters on this board have told me that we're awful and going to miss the playoffs altogether! Whose side are you on, sir?
Jets still have a legit shot at offs but need to rack up Ws against inferiors like Buffalo, KC, WSH and can expect tough games vs NYG, PHI, and MIA. We'll need some help to snag a wildcard, but other teams fuck up too so the offs aren't out of the question. The offense needs to get its fuckin shit together.
I think Jets are a long, long shot to get to the playoffs at this point (mostly because of Shottenheimer, depsite all their other flaws), but I don't see the Buffalo game at home as the game they lose. Buffalo has been blown out for the last three weeks and they are falling apart even more quickly then the Jets.
Agreed. This is a good thread to bring some perspective after so many peepz like myself were writing the season off after the Denver Debacle. The 6th spot is realistic but there just has to be improvement. I don't want to hear about a shoddy right tackle. Its up to the OC to call sets that account for that. Sanchez has already taken 25 sacks so something has to change. He needs protection and time to have any success. And I really, really hope we make Joe McKnight a major part of the offense. Yes he has fumbilitis on kick returns but no one has looked as good as this kid. He is actually showing burst and speed, something this team sorely LACKS.
It this point lets win some games and not think about the playoffs. This team has some major issues to work out
I see the Jets only losing to the Giants the rest of the way. Buffalo - W @ Washington - W (this will be a tough game) Kansas City - W @ Philly - W Giants - L @Miami - W 5-1 Overall: 10-6 Conference: 7-5 And this is optimistic.... The way these assholes have come to play, we may lose to the Eagles and Washington.
This. admire the optimism, but this team has not shown me that they can win out.... or even close to it, not to mention hoping on other teams ahead losing. Possible? Definitely, but not something I'm going to get concerned about yet.
i think we are going 9-7. Our offense is a fucking disaster...has been most of the year. I dont see that changing in the next 6 weeks. @Washington, @Philly, Giants, and @ Miami are going to be tough as hell. Any team that can generate a big pass rush (Wash, Philly, NYG) will cause a large problem since our O-line sucks dog dick at the moment. I see us losing @Philly and against the Giants. @Philly is just going to be a tough environment...Vick will be back and the Giants are simply a better team then we are.
Mark Sanchez's confidence is a mixed bag...The biggest concern here is he does not trust his offensive line to keep him safe back there. He falls down when a defender is coming at him. Wayne Hunter is holding the team back on offense alot.
Agreed. There isn't really any game that has looked promising. I hope I'm wrong, I really do but I'm just not optimistic that we're going to go on a 5-1 streak and then all of a sudden hit our stride. This offense has just NOT clicked.
You've said this before but you really need to look at the current situation. It's different now than it has been for the past 8 years. Andy Dalton is not Carson Palmer in his prime; not yet anyway. AJ Green is not Chad Johnson is his prime. Add in the fact that Leon Hall goes down for the year and what happens immediately? 160 yards and a TD for Torrey Smith. The last game of the year is Ravens at Bengals. Baltimore will most likely need that game to win the division or get a bye. The Bengals may or may not need that game for the WC. I'll take the Ravens in that situation.
The blueprint on how to beat the Jets has been writen, keep pressuring Mark and you win the game. No matter how well the defense plays and they will play well and far too long, the offense in time will lose the game. This blueprint has been sent out to every opponet we will face in the next 6 weeks, it's clearly in the game tapes for all to see. Buffalo - should be a win but if you lose to Tebow ???? @ Washington -This team is a mess, but Tebow factor again Kansas City -another could go either way.... @ Philly -L , did you watch there defense against the Giants Giants - L expect Big Blue to unleash there pass rusher after Mark all night @Miami - L after being battered by the Giants defense the week before,Mark should expect another dose to finish a very disappointing season....... So as I see it, a possiabe 8-8 or 7-9 Expect major changes in the offseason,,,,,if they do not come, God it pains me to say this but, expect SOJ for the next few years and the loss of the best HC coach we've had in 10 years...
