I am absolutely SHOCKED at the response to this issue. If you don't have the ability to see that Holmes is DEFINITELY the better player then....just WOW. I mean, consider the fact that he was joining up with a new QB (who happens to be a young one) and had to do it while missing the first 4 games of the year. Then look at the season he put together. Listen, I like Braylon as well, and would LOVE to have both of them back, but a guy like Santonio just doesn't come around that often. They NEED to keep him.

Agreed. Washington continues to be in disarray and Snyder is an idiot who will over-pay. We all heard Holmes go off after the loss at Pitt. He aint gonna be a happy 'skin!

I just hope Danny Woodhead destroys the ring in time.

This isn't about next year. Plus it takes 3 years for a received to fully contribute. So giving up Edwards for some college senior puts us four years away from replacing him.

I agree with the original poster. Especially about Snyder. I could see him making Holmes an offer he cant refuse.

If we get rid of Holmes, we should sign Sidney Rice.. he would definitely be a good replacement.. But I would really like to keep Holmes he won 3 games for us last year with clutch catches...

I dont see Holmes wanting to play for a Redskins team who is most likely not going to make they playoffs this year. He has already said he loves playing for the Jets...

Hopefully, Holmes is smart enough to know that there have been many a player that went to teams because they gave them stupid money...Redskins lead the league and then spend the whole time trying to figure out a way to get the hell out of the hell they are in...I think Holmes gets it..and as long as the Jets give him a really nice offer...hes back:

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes, likely to be one of the most popular free agents now that the NFL lockout is over, has a good chance to stay with the Jets.

Holmes' agent, Joel Segal, told The Post on Monday, "Santonio loves New York, he's a fan of the head coach, he likes the quarterback, he likes the system. There's a strong possibility of Santonio staying in New York. He's a huge fan of New York."

The Redskins reportedly will make an attempt to sign Holmes, who played last season for the Jets after being traded from the Steelers.

"I spoke to Santonio numerous times. We have a plan," Segal said. "We know our priorities and we're ready to go."

The NFL lockout ended Monday when players finally signed off on a new collective bargaining agreement that the owners approved last Thursday.

All offseason activity has been shut down since March, leaving a limited amount of time for teams to sign players before camps open this week.

"This is going to be unprecedented and historical," Segal said of free agency.

"There are going to be so many free agents that you don't want to get in a game of musical chairs and not have a seat at the end. You might move more quickly because you now have free agents from last year who were restricted becoming free agents, so there are almost two classes of free agents now.

"You have to make sure there are jobs for them after the traditional, first-wave free agents. That process sometimes can take a month. I don't see that happening now."

Receivers Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith, and cornerback Antonio Cromartie, are other Jets free agents.

It'll just be nice when we can start seeing FA's sign and know who we will have to start the season.

really cuz edwards play was the better one on that series and set up the win perfectly.

im not saying edwards is better im saying while people want to blow holmes for late game heroics they might want to remember that texans game a little more clearly.

And don't forget the HUGE catch to set up the GW FG in the WC game against the Colts. Edwards was just as clutch as Holmes was last year.

In my opinion, there's no real question that Holmes is a better receiver than Edwards. He's quicker, he's a better route runner, and he's got more reliable hands (although you've gotta give Edwards huge credit for cutting down his drops.)

That doesn't mean that the Jets are better off resigning Tone though. If it's a choice between matching some stupid Snyder offer and overpaying a guy who's one poorly timed bong hit away from missing a season or keeping Edwards and the cap flexibility to bring back Cro / sign another impact player, you've gotta go with the latter.

I've got nothing but love for Santonio Holmes, but the Jets are not a passing offense; they can't afford to weaken their entire roster to keep a wideout.
