I agree! I like your style! :metal: Only issue from our point of view is we need his mid west butt to run block for us. Our scheme is dependent on him run blocking to the level he has been when he was healthy. Boss is not going to cut it, and in return, Jacobs sucked when Shockey went down. But I agree, I would rather just keep him and let him sit out, unless we get a good deal somewhere.
Yeah. I really liked Kevin Boss last season. I don't know if he may have been playing a little over his head, but he seemed to be the well rounded TE that the Giants needed. How do Giants fans feel about the prospect of Kevin Boss being a starter?
Well we have a very, very good TE coach in Mike Pope who has been here for, i think all of superbowls. He coached Mark Bavaro as well, so he is a damn good coach. He is the one that scouted Boss in D2, Western Oregon. I would say whoever can run block the best between Boss, Johnson and Mathews, should be in heavy consideration to start. TE play in our run game is vital! All of our concepts we run are predicated upon the TE doing his job to seal the edge. We run alot of different concepts from power, center, G, ISO, lead, and some hybrid run. Boss got owned for the most part in the running game, and that led to Jacobs's efficiency going down once shockey got hurt. That basically showed our fan base, who thought we should get rid of shockey because he has no value, that he did in fact contribute big time in the running game. Let's put it this way, if run blocking had tangible stats or numbers, then Shockey would be putting up huge numbers. Once he got hurt, Boss had issues. I don't want him to start unless he shows good improvement in run blocking. If any one of the other TEs can do it better, then I'd sacrifice a receiving weapon for a sure run blocker.
I voted no due to what we'd have to give up. But it would be intriguing to say the least. You could go into a double tight end set along with Keller or Franks in there and the defense would still have to respect the pass. Singleback with 1 and 2 WR along 1 and 2 TE. If you spread it empty about every reciever is a threat. Throw in Neon, it's endless what you could do. That's just passing. I just don't see them doing this.
I agree with everything here. the only thing though, is that manning suckin is nothing compared to the chad/kellen debacle that we try and run our offense through (although we are all praying that one of them steps up this year). I cant believe so many jet fans dont like this deal. giant fans is understandable but jet fans? i mean jeez
A pro bowl talent malcontent for a guy who might not make the team who's a malcontent? (Scratches head and ponders straight up trade)
Even with the talent level of Shockey I still would say no. He's a cancer waiting to tear a locker room apart. Not exactly the type of guy we have been bringing into the fold here. There is a reason the Giants played thier best football without him in the line up last year. Baker can take his very average play and stuff it up his arse along with his demands. That said I highly doubt the Jets would consider a guy like Shockey.
Make the trade and than trade Shockey for a late 2. Baker is 4 to 6 material. The talent value is absurd in this deal.
I voted "no" if for no other reason than it won't happen unless the Giants had a severe brain fart. Plus I really wouldn't mind seeing Baker sit on the bench and watch Keller become the TE Baker could never be.
Either don't do it or do what WB said and bring Shockey in and then get rid of him. One thing is for sure i don't want him on the Jets.
Well, Baker and Shockey do have something in common -- neither one of them has played their way into a Super Bowl yet. At the same time, both of them have an awful lot to say in their own behalfs. I think that the best possible thing that both Baker and Shockey can do is just stay at home and do their best to get their actions on the field to somehow catch up with their mouths. It's going to be hard, but real men can do it.
no no no I voted no as well...Shockey is a disruptive force in the locker room...completely Anti-Baker. Not only that if they won't pay Baker what makes you think they'll want to pony up to pay Shockey what he is going to command...add on to that what we're going to pay our new 1st round pick...that much coin wrapped up into the TE position is ridiculous. Peace! The Mezz
