I linked it in the series thread, but hardly anyone will read it there, so here: http://sportspickle.com/features/volume7/2008-0528-mets.html sorry for linking twice
Smoltz to have shoulder surgery, and is out for the season. He claims that he will come back next year. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10853441
Chipper says he's the one guy they couldn't afford to lose. I disagree. I think Chipper is the one guy they can't afford to lose. Anyway, Royals-White Sox in the 15th.
 I was watching a stream of the game. Quentin walked. Konerko came up with none out in the bottom of the 15th against Gobble. He was 4/5 lifetime with 3 homers. I mentioned it to wildthing and 2 seconds later, Konerko hits a rocket over the left field fence. Now 5/6 with 4 homers. White Sox win 6-4.
Larry Jones hit his 400th career HR today. It pains me to say it, but he is probably going to end up in the Hall of Fame.
He should be a Hall of Famer. Incredible season he's having at age 36. Anyway, last night's Cleveland-Texas game was very high-scoring. Kobayashi came in and threw 2 no hit scoreless innings for Cleveland. Kept the score 15-6. Bauer comes in in the bottom of the 9th, allows exactly three runs, and then shuts the door, making the final score 15-9. (15+9=?) Probably the oddest thing I've seen all season.
you see, the pitchers last name was bauer which is the name of the lead character in 24 which is also the number of runs scored in the game! everything is funnier when it's so obscure that it has to be explained.
Ah, I get it now. Honestly, I didn't even notice the pitcher's name when I was reading the post. I tend to skip over names I don't know when reading posts.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but Dontrelle Willis has been optioned to Single A Lakeland by the Detroit Tigers, they want him to practise throwing strikes after that nightmare start on Monday.
