Brad Penny just had a stretch of 24 runs allowed in 18 innings. He's about to take another loss, which would drop him to 5-5. Steve Trachsel gave up 9 runs in less than 2 innings against Tampa today. He has an 8.82 ERA on the season.
Philadelphia-Houston had an over/under of 9, but it's turned into batting practice. 15 runs and 21 hits. no outs in top of 7th Sampson this was expected of, but not Cole Hamels.
highest scoring game of the season? 21 runs and 25 hits through 7 innings. edit: Earlier this year, Cubs beat the Brewers 19-5. Let's shoot for those marks first.
Padres win it on Adrian Gonzalez's 3 run shot to centerfield in the 18th on a full count and 2 outs. 21 runs (ties phillies astros for high on the day) and 39 hits combined
I don't feel like forming this into sentences, but I hate Dusty Baker so this is worthy. I just said all of this to LTS on AIM about the Padres/Reds game: heyitsrob11 (10:01:12 PM): adam dunn 2 for with a hr and 2 rbi heyitsrob11 (10:01:15 PM): and was double switched out heyitsrob11 (10:01:18 PM): fuck you dusty heyitsrob11 (10:01:20 PM): fucking asshoile heyitsrob11 (10:01:30 PM): he double switches dunn out of every fucking game SteakOnDmitri (10:01:32 PM): hahahaha heyitsrob11 (10:01:33 PM): or outright takes him out heyitsrob11 (10:01:36 PM): every fucking game heyitsrob11 (10:02:38 PM): adam dunn, first inning: double heyitsrob11 (10:02:41 PM): 4th inning: walk heyitsrob11 (10:02:49 PM): 5th inning: 2 run homer heyitsrob11 (10:03:04 PM): 7th and 9th: k heyitsrob11 (10:03:07 PM): double switched out SteakOnDmitri (10:03:09 PM): i feel bad for reds fans heyitsrob11 (10:03:32 PM): how are you going to double switch someone who's been on base 3 out of 5 times and has hit 2 extra bases and drove in 2 heyitsrob11 (10:03:35 PM): in a tie game heyitsrob11 (10:03:41 PM): also, he's the best fucking hitter on the team SteakOnDmitri (10:04:03 PM): his defense, duh SteakOnDmitri (10:04:07 PM): /shoots self in face heyitsrob11 (10:04:27 PM): double switched out for ryan freel heyitsrob11 (10:04:45 PM): those poor red fans heyitsrob11 (10:06:56 PM): just to pile on some more heyitsrob11 (10:07:01 PM): ryan freel could have played 3rd heyitsrob11 (10:07:07 PM): edwin encarnacion made the last out of that inning heyitsrob11 (10:07:16 PM): not even dunn, who struck out 2 batters before encarnacion heyitsrob11 (10:07:18 PM): and heyitsrob11 (10:07:23 PM): he kept encarnacion over dunn heyitsrob11 (10:07:26 PM): encarnacion went 1 for 9 SteakOnDmitri (10:07:31 PM): dunn's defense would SteakOnDmitri (10:07:37 PM): ve cost them the game SteakOnDmitri (10:07:39 PM): obvs heyitsrob11 (10:07:44 PM): also heyitsrob11 (10:07:47 PM): encarnacions first hit heyitsrob11 (10:07:50 PM): 16th inning heyitsrob11 (10:08:04 PM): he was 0 for 7 at 1 point heyitsrob11 (10:08:09 PM): its official heyitsrob11 (10:08:21 PM): there is no possible way to justify that move in any possible aspect of baseball
that move might've cost them the game, as it definitely weakened their lineup. that is going to seriously screw with the rotations, though. day off tomorrow, but the Reds used Harang for 4 innings and volquez also threw a bunch of pitches. Padres were lucky as they got 6 shutout innings from Banks in relief to close out the game.
5. Barry Zito wins: Happened Friday night in Florida, and notice, the entire country is observing a holiday on Monday. that's from Scott Miller
Phillies up 10-4 at home against Rockies after 5 innings. Victorino: walk, walk, single. Scored each time. Jorge De La Rosa should not be starting. He's just been terrible. First inning: Walk Rollins, Walk Victorino, homer to Utley. That's the way to start a game.
another 3 run homer, this time from Coste. 13-4 in the 6th  then after a single by taguchi, newman walked Moyer! and now victorino is hit by a pitch. bases loaded for Utley. Victorino is 4/4 at getting on
utley with a bases loaded single scores Taguchi, then Howard with another bases loaded single to score Moyer and Victorino. 16-4 Victorino: on all 4 times, scored all 4 times. Amazing.
17-4 now, with Phillies piling on in the bottom of the 8th. Utley has 6 RBI, Howard has 3, Coste has 4 Burrell, Rollins, and Taguchi have already been pulled. Now Howard walked, so bases loaded and one out for Bohn.
Bohn infield single, Feliz single, Coste single. 20-4 now. That sets the record for most runs by a team in a game this season, I believe. The most I saw previously was Chicago's 19 against Milwaukee, as I mentioned earlier. Bases still loaded with one out. Rockies onto their 6th pitcher.
crazy stuff in bottom of 10th in Anaheim. Hunter singled to left with 2 outs and no one out. Guillen bent down to tie his shoe and thought time was called, but it wasn't, and Hunter slid safely into second before Anderson even stepped into the batter's box. Then they intentional walked Anderson but the 2nd intentional ball went over the catcher and to the backstop, giving Hunter third. Runners at the corners, 2 outs, game still scoreless. Anderson then took 2nd on defensive indifference. Cabrera fielded a high chop from Napoli to finally end the inning. Headed to 11th, still 0-0
Angels win 1-0 in 12. Tigers intentionally walked Hunter to fill the bases with one out. They brought in Bobby Seay, a lefty, to face Garret Anderson. Very questionable call on a check swing (looked like he might've gone, but ump said no and called it a ball) and that eventually became a walk, scoring Izturis for the game's only run.
