Ryan Ludwick has a pair of two run homers, and the Cardinals lead the Cubs 4-1. Ludwick has 17 RBI in his last eight games.
Cubs down 4-2 in the 9th to St. Louis. Bases loaded, no one out for the Cards. So Piniella put Sean Marshall in left field for a batter and brought in Heilman to face a righty. Heilman got the righty, Marshall came back in from left field, and then got the next two (it was originally going to be two lefties, but La Russa pinch hit for the first one). Then the guy who replaced Marshall in left, Reed Johnson, made a fantastic diving, sprawling catch to record the third out. Wow.
But Ryan Franklin strikes out the side looking in the bottom of the 9th at Wrigley, and the rivals split a 4 game series.
I'm happy with the Dodgers first half, 56-32, 7 games up, 29-21 without Manny, nice homestand to open the second half. Of course it all comes down to October but really nothing more I could have asked for here.
You're happy? How could you not be happy with the best record in baseball? Most of it without their best hitter.
Yeah, really can't complain. The young pitchers have stepped up, too, Billingsley and Kershaw, so far. I try to take it in stride and not talk too much, it's July, long way to go.
Wow, Jamie Moyer threw 7 one hit innings against the Marlins. Combined with the bullpen: 9 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 5 Ks Hanley Ramirez went 0/3, and he has always killed Moyer. He was 12/36 with 4 homers off Moyer. He also had an unreal OBP. I'm seeing .722. That's so high it must be a mistake, but whatever it is, it's very high. Winning runs were scored in the second by the Phillies. Ryan Howard: Ball, Strike looking, Strike looking, Ball, Howard reached on an infield single. Raul Ibanez: Ball, Strike swinging, Ball, Ibanez homered to left center, Howard scored. Yep, infield single. Moyer is now 13-2 career vs. the Marlins, despite Hanley Ramirez owning him. Moyer has sucked this season, though. Lot of home runs, lot of bad starts.
For some reason Hawpe is on the bench. Anyway, Rockies got their first run like this: Aaron Cook: Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Ball, Cook walked, Helton scored, Tulowitzki to third, Stewart to second. 3-1 Rockies in the 5th
Looks like the Dodgers will get shut out. Dodgers 5th Wandy Rodriguez pitching: James Loney: Ball, Strike looking, Ball, Strike looking, Ball, Loney singled to center. Orlando Hudson: Ball, Foul, Ball, Foul, Hudson doubled to deep left, Loney to third. Randy Wolf: Strike looking, Strike swinging, Foul, Wolf grounded out to second. Rafael Furcal: Ball, Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Ball, Furcal walked. Andre Ethier: Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Ethier grounded into double play shortstop to first, Furcal out at second. End of Inning (0 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors) Single, double to start inning and no runs?
Following Moyer's example, another guy who's having an awful season dominated his favorite opponent. Ervin Santana dismantled the A's.
I would have thought he was smarter than this. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/ju...ion-will-easily-be-tampas-biggest/news-metro/
Obviously you would do the same thing. Build the biggest thing you could find and then lose money on it from the day you move in...
BECAUSE EVERYONE THINKS ABOUT BUIILDING A DREAM HOME AND SELLING IT RIGHT AWAY. He's in the twilight of his career. He's building his home in the retirement capital. Let's put 2 and 2 together here Donald.
Well, Cain's "injury" was probably more of an excuse to skip the All Star Game. He showed no ill effects, throwing 107 pitches today. 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, two walks, and 8 Ks. Giants won 4-3. He outdueled Zach Duke. Joe Mauer is in an extended slump for the Twins. He's 1 for his last 20. His average has dropped all the way to .362, which means he no longer leads baseball in hitting. He's second to Ichiro.
Joel Pineiro went 7 innings against Arizona today, allowing 5 hits, no walks, and only one run. He also had a 2 RBI double, which accounted for all of St. Louis's runs in a 2-1 win. Ryan Franklin recorded his 22nd save, and lowered his ERA to .76. I think that's the best in the majors for anyone with at least 20 innings or whatever (Franklin has 35.1).
Ian Kinsler just hit a walkoff two run shot in the 12th to avoid getting swept by the Twins. Kinsler and Hamilton have really been slumping, though.
