Torii Hunter just slammed into the wall hard in San Fran going after a fly ball. He's down and he doesn't seem to be getting up.
Ichiro has had 7 20+ game hitting streaks. That ties him with George Sisler for the fourth most 20-plus game hitting streaks. Willie Keeler, Ty Cobb and Pete Rose had eight.

I'm aware of that. Just saying that it's unusual for a second baseman to catch a foulout, although it does happen occasionally. Also, brothers started games against each other 21 times in MLB history. Here's the list: 06-20-2009 Jeff Weaver, LA Jered Weaver, ANA 09-06-2002 Alan Benes, CHN Andy Benes, SLN 08-29-1996 Ramon Martinez, LAN Pedro Martinez, MON 07-31-1988 Greg Maddux, CHN Mike Maddux, PHI 09-29-1986 Greg Maddux, CHN Mike Maddux, PHI 09-13-1982 Joe Niekro, HOU Phil Niekro, ATL 05-11-1980 Joe Niekro, HOU Phil Niekro, ATL 05-31-1979 Pat Underwood, DET Tom Underwood, TOR 09-26-1979 Joe Niekro, HOU Phil Niekro, ATL 09-26-1978 Joe Niekro, HOU Phil Niekro, ATL 05-29-1976 Joe Niekro, HOU Phil Niekro, ATL 07-03-1973 Jim Perry, DET Gaylord Perry, CLE 07-13-1969 Phil Niekro, ATL Joe Niekro, SDN 09-26-1969 Joe Niekro, SDN Phil Niekro, ATL 04-23-1968 Phil Niekro, ATL Joe Niekro, CHN 07-04-1967(1) Joe Niekro, CHN Phil Niekro, ATL 06-25-1926 Virgil Barnes, NY1 Jess Barnes, BRO 09-11-1926(2) Jess Barnes, BRO Virgil Barnes, NY1 04-23-1925 Jess Barnes, BSN Virgil Barnes, NY1 06-26-1924 Jess Barnes, BSN Virgil Barnes, NY1 06-29-1924(1) Jess Barnes, BSN Virgil Barnes, NY1
Dodgers are going to beat the Angels here. Kershaw threw a great game. He got in one spot of trouble after he tried to get the lead runner on a bunt attempt and wound up with bases loaded and no one out. 2-0 count on Abreu, but he got a comebacker and a 1-2-3 double play. He then got Hunter to pop out, ending the threat. 4-0 Dodgers after a reviewed homer by James Loney was confirmed. In other news, Albert Pujols hit his third grand slam of the season today and Jeremy Guthrie completely shut down a Howard-less Phillies. Howard was in the hospital with flu-like symptoms and that ended the longest active consecutive games streak in the majors at 343 games.
Happens a decent amount it usually a foul ball behind first, the 2b tends to have the easiest path to that ball.
Chris Davis is on pace to challenge the single season K record. It's really be something if he could surpass the marks set by Ryan Howard, Mark Reynolds, Adam Dunn, Bobby Bonds, etc. That record has been broken and rebroken in the last five years. Bonds' mark stood for 34 years, until Dunn got 195 in 2004. Then Howard whiffed 199 times in 2007. Then Mark Reynolds put up 204 last season. Top 5: 1. Mark Reynolds, Arizona, 2008 (R) 204 2. Ryan Howard, Philadelphia, 2008 (L) 199 2. Ryan Howard, Philadelphia, 2007 (L) 199 4. Jack Cust, Oakland, 2008 (L) 197 5. Adam Dunn, Cincinnati, 2004 (L) 195 Wow. Texas will probably keep him in the lineup. Like Howard and Dunn, he has prodigious power.
In Baltimore, the rain eliminated Smoltz after only 4 innings. The score was 10-1 Boston during the 7th inning stretch. Now? 10-9 in the 8th. Jeremy Guthrie was just used as a pinch-runner, BTW.
Papelbon came in, struck out Pie, and then allowed a 2 RBI double to Markakis (who took third on the throw home). Now John Sterling gives an outdated update. Those guys don't have a computer? What's with the 10 minute delay? Just have some guy listen to the game and run in with updates. 11-10 Baltimore.

I thought our bee population was at like 5% of what it normally is. If so, it seems a lot of them have congregated in PETCO Park. San Diego-Houston is being delayed by swarms of bees.
