Bay doubles it in. 4-3 71 RBI in 81 games as a member of the Red Sox. Pretty hard to fathom. It's clear not to bunt with Bay or to bunt a guy from 2nd to 3rd. Besides, with Ortiz on, a bunt could be disastrous. Ortiz got third anyway with the wild pitch.
Wild finish. 1st and 3rd, no one out. Papelbon strikes out three Rays. Just overpowered them with heat. Red Sox win, 4-3. Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox all win tonight.
Wily Taveras (I have his T-shirt!) is 5/5 tonight as the Reds are shellacking the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Chase Field has really been friendly to hitters this season. 6 Reds have multiple hits tonight. Arroyo even has a hit. Side note: Two guys named Rosales played tonight. Leo Rosales threw 1.1 perfect innings in relief of Jon Garland and Adam Rosales started at third for Cincinnati. He has three hits, including a homer. 13-5 Reds in the 8th.
Ryan Zimmerman now has a 30 game hitting streak. Another multi-hit game today. Incredible what he's doing in a terrible lineup. Longest hitting streak by a third baseman since 1984. Three homers in that game, all by the Nationals. Score? Giants 10, Nationals 4.
Good statistic: 8 home runs in today's action, and five of them went over the walls of Chase Field. 13 runs in Cleveland-White Sox and 11 runs in Braves-Mets with nary a home run. San Francisco scored 10 without a homer.
Zimmerman didn't get the message that it was time to stop going yard. Three run bomb in the 9th, his second homer of the game. 11-7 Giants. Zimmerman is 4/5 with 2 homers and 4 RBI. You'd think teams would get the message and start intentionally walking him. I'd rather face Dunn. The 4/5 pushed Zimm's BA from .346 to .363. He's third in the NL in batting, behind only Beltran and Votto. Giants finally win by getting a strikeout, stranding two runners.
Walkoff three run homer by Pablo Sandoval with two outs in the 9th. Giants beat the Nationals, 9-7. Beimel gave it up. Zimmerman went 2/5 to put his streak at 30 games. He keeps hitting and the Nationals keep losing. Luke Hochevar was promoted after dominating AAA again. Unfortunately for him, the results are similar to his 2008 results. He was 5-0 with a .9 ERA in AAA. He's now 0-1 with a 36 ERA in the majors this year.
Went to the Jays/White Sox game today. Ozzie Guillen is gone till Monday at his sons graduation. Ray pitched a gem...8IP, 0ER(1 UER), 1 BB, 3K. Colon was pitching great, and then left in the 6th with an "upset stomach". He probly ate 10 lbs of bacon grease this morning and it came back to bite him. Jays win with 2 runs in the 8th, Downs with the save.
Fuck Colon. He was terrible last year and when the Sox went to put him in the bullpen he went to the Dominican and refused to play. How that fuck got another contract is beyond me.
Tampa Bay-Oakland still scoreless in the 9th. Shields has gone 8 innings and allowed 3 hits and one walk. Entered the 9th with only 85 pitches.
Mike Hampton just left the Astros game with an injury. Tampa Bay-Oakland now in the bottom of the 9th, still scoreless. Shields is now out.
