The Nats will open their final homestand of the 2008 season next week vs. the Mets, and Cristian Guzman must be looking forward to it. Guzman feasted on Mets pitching in their series at Shea this week, batting .500 with 3 homers, 5 runs, and 7 RBI across the two game set. Cristian and the Nats will be looking to add to those stats and put a few Curly W's in the books starting Monday night at 7:10 p.m.

Twins won Game 1 against Baltimore, 12-2. Game 2 just started. 6 runs in the top of the first for Minnesota. Baltimore's awful pitching and Camden Yards are making the Twins look like a powerhouse lineup.
he struck out Ballentien and Ibanez with 2nd and 3rd. 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, he gets out of it. Came in with a 3 run lead. Struck out the best hitter on the Mariners with a full count and 2nd and 3rd. New record-holder. #57 saves #58

Ichiro tied Wee Willie Keeler's record by reaching 200 hits for his 8th consecutive season. I wonder if any other player ever got 200 hits every year of their career. Probably only players who are currently active. The only other possibility would be if a player was awesome but had his career end quickly due to war or injury or something. Jeter has done it 6 out of 14 seasons. A-Rod has done it 3 of 15. Jose Reyes has never done it. David Wright has never done it. Albert Pujols has done it 1 out of 8. Ichiro is a great hitter who doesn't walk much. Perfect combination.
This is another one of those achievements that look a lot more important than they really are. You note how the two arguably best hitters now (Pujols and Rodriguez) have rarely done it, but it's much bigger than that - the best hitters in baseball history rarely did it. Babe Ruth did it only 3 times; Ted Williams never did it; Willie Mays did it once; Jimmie Foxx did it twice. It is far more impressive that Stan Musial did it 6 times and Lou Gehrig did it 8 times than that Ichiro has done it 8 times, since they also walked and hit home runs. Unfortunately, when they decided not to count walks as part of batting average hits became overvalued, and this is a perfect example.
well, like I was saying, the main reason Ichiro can accumulate so many hits is that he doesn't walk much. The elite hitters like Pujols and A-Rod have power and are very dangerous, so they draw a lot of walks. Stan the Man and Ted Williams are two of the greatest ever. They're at the top of my list. Not surprising that Ted never did it. He walked over 140 times six different seasons. Over 100 walks in eleven seasons.
Jim Edmonds thrown out in the middle of an at bat in the bottom of the 11th. 1-0 count. Pitch well outside. Rapuano calls it a strike. Next pitch is even further outside, and again it's called a strike. Edmonds said something, and Rapuano immediately chucked him.
