The fallacy in your statement here is your apparent assumption that the Jets would somehow reap increased value from an earlier draft pick. History, though no forecast of future results, says otherwise.
The irritating part about Sunday was that they were up 27-7 and won 30-28 vs a dogshit Washington team. It wasn't a good win. It's just another mark against this staff to show how incompetent they are, so yeah, I was pissed when the kicker made the game winner. I wanted him to miss it. It's a different story if they went out and finished a complete game and won 41-10. I texted my brother saying screw the pick, go win your last 3 and finish 8-9 when they were up 27-7. What a clown team.
When the news broke that Woody was running it back with this same shitty crew I didn’t care to pay attention much to the game on Sunday
Don't look now but we're still in the top 10 according to Tankathon, 9th to be specific, so the win only dropped us 2 spots. I've said it numerous times already but this OL class is absolutely stacked. While Sunday's win might've knocked us out of contention for the Olu Fashanu and Joe Alt sweepstakes, Tailese Fuaga, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze are guys that could still be available at the back end of the Top 10 and any of those guys would immediately elevate this offense. Also, there's a realistic pathway to jumping back into the Top 5 if we lose out and some other teams win a game or two down the stretch, as we have a worse SOS than LAC and TEN and are tied with the Giants. I was fine with what happened on Sunday....only because I started Breece Hall in my fantasy playoff semi-finals and he carried me to the championship game. Gimme dat money.
I'm a fan of the team and that means I want them to win. My desire for the team to win does not impact the outcome of games. Thus, there is no downside for me wanting the team to always win no matter the circumstances. I also have no impact on the Jets draft position nor on their decisions on who to draft. I want them to win and get better and I have no control over either one so what I think makes no difference to the team performance.
I've said this many times when the subject of tanking (or not) invariably comes up (when the season dies a slow, painful death or implodes): it would be great if the Jets would just win normally. Too much to ask. I did go here during the game . . . https://forums.theganggreen.com/thr...jets-vs-commanders.99799/page-15#post-4380893 . . . but don't misread. I was actually laughing when the Jets were up 27-7 just to fall behind 28-27 and about to blow it. You can't script it. They shockingly went against the grain and pulled it out. It was almost one of the most Jetsy losses in the annals of Palookaville.
Yeah I've literally never checked out on a season but I've had little to no interest in watching the last couple games.
I've started watching some tape - Joe Alt is a fucking monster. Basically a Penei Sewel type of player. Getting him would have been pretty amazing. At #9 this will not happen. Taliese Fuaga could be our Ikem Ekwonu though, who has been solid. Assuming JD can properly evaluate and get a good OT at #9. WR is an option too, but we really really really need OLine. I think we heard that one before.
offensive lineman always go earlier than expected cause (other) teams are smart we beat the commanders though woo hoo
Something that is more important than draft position is the ability of the coaching staff to "coach up" players and to have a game plan that works and that adjusts to the game circumstances. Also, choosing the right players during the draft is important. The Jets had the #2 overall draft pick 3 years ago and how did that work out? Getting a great draft pick is a factor in the success of the team, but it's one of several important factors. I argue that choosing the right players in the draft and coaching are more important than the team's draft position. There are other important general management factors, such as strategically acquiring players in free-agency and trades. The Jets did nothing to address the backup QB position this season, but they signed Dalvin Cooke for $7M! If the proper moves had been made instead bonehead moves, the Jets likely would have a winning record. The team's draft position has no impact on these poor decisions.
Morgan Moses and George Fant combined cost 1 million more than Cook this year. Or 5 million less than old Duane Brown. Were paying Lazard 18 million going forward and he wont even make 500 yards this season. Rodgers, Cook, Tomilson, and possibly Bakhtari - really? Personally I'm tired of stacking our team with old expensive vets. We need more quality young talent. Rodgers recruiting is the backwater of future failure.
For what is worth, the top two tackles are forecasted to go around pick 4 for one and pick 7 for the second one.Aside from a couple of QBs going high, a couple of monster WR and then some awesome edge and inside defensive lineman. Next OL projected is early teens. So expect the unexpected.
Joe Alt would be the best-case scenario IMO. There's still hope though with 2 weeks left. A couple of things shake right and we're right back in the Top 5 and Alt becomes a realistic possibility again.
It's also December, guys will move up and down the board over the next few months before the draft. Happens every year.
It's a positive when payers, like Rodgers, can help recruit FAs. Heck, GW, Breece, Sauce helped recruit him. But FO needs to identify good players to recruit, which they did to some extent. For example, OBJ would have been a decent addition, and Rodgers also recruited Campbell: https://www.si.com/nfl/jets/news/co...ler-calais-campbell-was-close-to-joining-jets . Again, it is a positive, but eventually we want to see really good players come here as a result, which hasn't really happened. As far Bakhtiari, 4 knee surgeries on one knee, the guy clearly cannot be relied upon. He has no money guaranteed next year. Chances are he will either be a FA or takes a pay cut from GB to stay for somewhere around 5 mil. Now, let's suppose he is released and doctors clear him. Do we take a chance for 5 mil or so - say instead of Billy or Max as a back-up tackle, who if healthy can start? Definitely I would not spend more than that.
To say he's only decent is laughable. Especially coming from this fanbase. In his first year, he had a coaching staff that was worse than anything we've ever trotted out there. In his second year, with a new system, he took the team to the playoffs, won a playoff game on the road after coming back from 27–0 down, and here in his third year, he had them at 8–3 before getting injured and they're still probably going to make the playoffs. Mind you, this was a terrible doormat franchise before he got there. This same fanbase will give Zach Wilson and every quarterback we've ever had a pass because he needs to learn a new system, his coaching is terrible, etc. Maybe he's not Brady or Mahomes, but all the gleeful chortling about this guy not being what was expected and us dodging a bullet as a way to counter the tanking argument is ridiculous. If we had even 25% of what he's given Jacksonville, we would have been in the playoffs the last two years. And I know we would have ground him into fertilizer and he wouldn't be what he is or certainly not what he was expected to be, but that isn't the point of this response.
If we had an OL of Fant, Edoga, Van Roten, Moses, McGovern/Tippman, and a coaching staff that had a clue we would literally have the best OL in the league right now. Two of them are gone directly due to JD’s stubborn allegiance to Becton, the other two are gone because our coaches are the absolutely worst at recognizing and developing talent. Not only would it be one of the best OL’s, it’d be one of the cheaper ones. JD is such an incompetent dickhead.
