I agree, I also always root for them to win. But it is quite frustrating at times in the middle of March when you look back and the Jets go out and win a meaningless game with their third string QB and we’re picking 9th just missing out on the top two tackles. It’s happened twice in the past five years in fact. We missed out on Nick Bosa for Q and Lawrence for ZW.
High draft pick is harder to fuck up, unless you are going QB, and we aren't. Because the guys at the top are so good (Alt, Harrison Jr, etc) chances are you can take on one of the top guys randomly and you can't go wrong. So, as bad as JD is, because every choice up top is good, you will end up good. Not any more after this "win". Now we are in Becton/Wirfs, McD, etc, territory. There is a lot of room for error. Gotta hope JD pulls 2022-like draft out of this one, and not 2020, 2021, or 2023. There is also a chance that JD will spend bunch of assets to trade up a little and still pick a wrong guy (AVT over Darrisaw and two 3d round picks). There is a lot more that can go wrong now.
You guys worry too much about draft position and too little about the fact that the Jets are going to ruin every prospect no matter where they drafted.
Not to worry, sleepy Joe D will more than compensate for the drop in draft slots due to beating a semi-pro team that is playing to lose. Jets were faded in 2nd half so Commies could cover spread. This crap is more rigged than fake wrestling.
There have been teams that tanked the final game of the season by mysterious QB benchings, starting backups, etc. Heck I'm pretty sure Washington has been soft tanking since they traded Chase Young.
That’s true. I think more of the points made were that the players on the field and the coaches coaching in game and during the practice week give 100% effort at all costs. But the Jaguars benched Minshew for Jake Luton the Lawrence year as an example because Minshew was a threat to win. I think organizations definitely make efforts. When Peyton went down in Indy, they made no effort to get another QB and if I remember correctly they also held a lot of their key players out if they had a broken fingernail.
Yup. Jacksonville did it and made it completely obvious by thanking the Jets nationally and publicly, and then playing nothing but back ups for the final couple of games to ensure that they didn't win accidentally. Players never tank, but organizations can make strategic decisions to look further along than just the game in a given week.
People that believe in tanking just live in fantasy land. Players and a coaches don’t play to loose on purpose. Not to mention that moving up two spots or so under the current regime does not guarantee diddle, because JDs ranking for the draft and fan desires are not the same thing 90% of the time. Forget tanking, that only occurs once in a blue moon when an Andrew Luck is sitting there at number one. I would further argue that if we had the first pick and selected Lawrence we would have completely screwed up his career in the first two years under the present regime.
Given how bad the Jets QB room actually is, putting in a measurably worse QB is clearly not an option available to the Jets.
Well NE just won their meaningless game yesterday too. As most other bottom feeders. Tanking for what specifically?
And that, my friend, has been this team for the last 10+ years... no matter who the coach is, GM or players.
I did enjoy seeing the Pats win yesterday with a last second field goal - they are all in on taking a new QB next year so that will have annoyed the fans - though the thing that will grate the most is if the Pats ended up with the #1 pick then the media would portray it as masterful genius 4D chess by Bill to bring in the next dynasty defining QB (and not that its the result of really bad drafting and the fact they were almost entirely reliant on Brady) edit: to make this even funnier I just saw an article about how lots of Pats fans are convinced that Bill is now "choosing" to win games because he's been told he is on his way out and so is now trying to screw their draft position
