I know man. Its ridiculous. I am literally embarrassed by even being associated with this guy as a possibility. I dont know what I'll do if he becomes "The Guy".
I do...puke in your mouth...like we Jets fans have had to do for years and years and years and years.... I know that's what I'll end up doing...sadly enough...IF that comes to pass I'll have to wait to puke in my mouth again when our Head Coach then follow that up by picking out his own boss. LOL
I don't know...if you've seen every game he's ever coached (an unlikely scenario, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), then maybe you are too close to him (you can't see the forest for the trees). But I'll tell you this. I don't know how you can say his best games were against the Jets when they beat two play-off teams (GB & DET) and lost by a TD to Denver( I won't even count the NE win in the last week of hte season). I don't know how you can say he didn't do anything at Syracuse. He took a dismal losing program and gave them two winning seasons and two Bowl Game victories in four seasons. Syracuse also went 7-5 in their first year in the ACC with his players, so I'm not buying your implication that he did nothing at Syracuse. Are you saying a young college coach is wrong for moving on to an NFL job (he'd certainly be the first coach to do that lol!). Are you saying his offense is too conservative? Remember who his OC was (Nathaniel Hackett - does the last name ring a bell)? Somehow, this terrible coach went 9-7 with EJ Manuel and Kyle Orton. Are you saying if he had the right QB, he wouldn't throw the ball downfield? He did that pretty good in the games I saw, IIRC. Besides, if he's a conservative, run oriented coach, doesn't that play to the Jets strength? Are you sure you're not hurt from him leaving the "Cuse?
This "side of the ball" argument is such horse shit. I want a HEAD COACH not some guy you attribute a side of the ball to. Brian Billick -- an offensive guy - won a super bowl with defense Tony Dungy - a defensive guy - won a super bowl with an offensive team Jon Gruden - an offensive guy - won a super bowl with a stout defensive team Tom Coughlin - an offensive guy - beat the Patriots twice in the SB with defensive efforts. Bill Belicheck - a defensive guy - has been fielding a more offensive team for a decade.
I'll give you my honest opinion of Marrone as a Bills fan. 1) I was upset that he left. Mostly because we need continuity - I didn't want to start over. 2) He has done an excellent job hiring on the defensive side of the ball. He hired Pettine, who did a great job - so great that he got hired as a head coach the next season. And then he hired Schwartz, who made the Bills D one of the best in the NFL. Both great hires. He also hired Pepper Johnson who has done a solid job with the D-Line. 3) His offense is bad. Really, really bad. Like 28th in the NFL in yards per play bad. 26th in 3rd down %. Bottom 5 in redzone %. Nate Hackett has been his Offensive Coordinator forever (since his Syracuse days) and Marrone brings him wherever he goes. You will want to punch your TV by halftime of the season opener if he brings Hackett. You're talking about an offensive coordinator who will throw a 50 yard bomb on 3rd and inches. A guy who will run the ball on 3rd and 12. He will call a timeout and then come out with the worst playcall you could ever dream of. There are times when he completely forgets about the running game and will pass 10 times in a row. QB sneaks do not exist. Quick fullback handoffs don't exist. Screens are terribly drawn up and poorly executed and poorly timed. Both of our QB's REGRESSED under his tutelage. Hackett is the MAIN reason i'm not totally dismayed about Marrone opting out. It was hard to watch. The Bills defense was incredibly DOMINANT this season. They shutdown offense after offense after offense, including Denver and Green Bay. But the offense screwed up even the best of efforts. As far as Marrone himself - it's tough to say because the OC runs the offense and DC runs the defense. He challenges the right plays - plays that look like the call was wrong. He was poor at time management when he first started but he's gotten A LOT better at that. BUT one thing he is truly bad at is 4th down decision making. It was a BIG talking point after most games - wins and losses. He WILL punt on 4th and Inches inside an opponents territory. Get ready for it. It WILL happen. And it will happen often. He LOVES to punt. Down 10 with only 9 minutes left inside the opponents territory? PUNT! Down 7 with 3 minutes left against a good offense at midfield - PUNT! In field goal range on 4th and inches - PUNT! He loves to punt. I'd like to still have him. Hopefully he brings Hackett with him. Guaranteed 2 wins for the Bills against the Jets if he does.
Thanks for the honest input. We dealt with Paul Hackett for a couple of years so we definitely understand how frustrating that family's coaching habits can be. In that context, hiring the son seems like something of a nightmare we've already lived through once. Couple of questions concerning the offense: How do you feel the offense would have looked if the running backs weren't hurt so often throughout the season? What was the difference with and without them? And further, if Manuel didn't turn out to be as bad as a bust as he's been through his first two seasons, do you think that would have had a serious effect on how things turned out? How much of the problems were Manuel, and how much was plain old offensive incompetence? Also, what do you think of the Bills o-line and how it has progressed since Marrone took the job?
Listen, we all want the Jets to do well. I'm just warning you guys about what I've seen, heard, and read about Marrone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tough to go crazy over a coach who got knocked out of the playoffs by the damn Raiders after smacking Green Bay, talk about laying an egg and then just opts out with 2 years left on his contract. He knew the playoffs were expected next season, had no 1st round pick and his QB just retired, if you ask me I think he opted out because of the big possibility that the Bills would have regressed next year and he wanted no part of that. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, we're all aware of the Daily News existence. Personally, I've decided to put them on my mental "ignore" list a long time ago. Try reading comments from players who've actually worked with him. It tells a very different story than what Manboobs Mehta has to say.
Just read jets are interviewing Doug today gentlemen....could be over before we know it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Brady-Less...Gronk-Less....Edelman-Less.....Revis-less...starting defense-less.....and won by a TD... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yup, but let's just regurgitate what the NY Post tells us about how much three players loved playing for him and he "rebuilt" Syracuse instead. Laughable how little people want to actually delve into the cold hard evidence.
Sort of the way the Jet were able to beat Indy to make the playoffs. Otherwise Rex would have been fired at least a year earlier, much to our advantage. Yeh I get your point.
Should it mean everything? It means he beat a bad Jets team. He's 15-17 with the 28th ranked offense ....where do I sign up for that ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not like we got in knocked out in the first round though, we took advantage of that opportunity, his team had a chance at the playoffs and lost to the RAIDERS.
